Sony Playstation 3 (Previous 80GB Model) - $399 from High Point Big W

181

Hi guys

I found this in the Big W in High Point shopping centre Melbourne. I think it's not a bad deal for those people who don't mind the order version and don't want the game that comes with what the current PS3 offers. Personally I like this fatter version…?

Sorry about the poor quality photo btw, i need to snap and run~lol

I wonder has anyone here costed shipping for one of these from overseas — for example, Amazon sells this model for US$249 — at current exchange rates that's about AU$276, (Amazon doesn't ship them internationally, but if you have a local friend there, you can easily get them to send it on).

BTW: it would be region locked for BluRay movies, but you could still play games from any country, even the $55 latest release titles from the USA.

    • there is also the services of priceusa that can be used for this, quick question: the power supply would need replacemnet wouldn't it (110->240)

      • No need to replace the powersupply. PS3's are 100-240v.

    • Not worth the negative if you're talking about overseas prices. As you said, you can't buy Aussie Blu-rays and watch them in a US PS3.

Comparing apples to oranges…that being said though, it'd be ok if you just wanted to play games.

wow its so gay to see my 699 machine depreciated $300 lol oh well i got 10% off plus 2 free games with mine so its about the same anyway

  • I guess it's a good bargain if you are specifically looking for the bigger model. Some friends of mine still insisted the bigger models looked better than the slim.

But i think the pricing is still pretty close to the new models, as they have more hard drive space, and comes with a game, for $499 or under.

  • BIG RIP i wouldn't pay nowhere near 399 when for an xtra 100bux ur getting one thats a new model, Slim design, Bigger HDD and a game thats worth 100bux , but thats just me

  • The bigger model is better, you can also install linux on it and it looks much better.

  • Its true that the Newer model is made to a budget, my mate says if you use your PS3 Slim for more than 3 hours blu-ray movies get a little jerky. Also the Laser on the optics are a lower grade so you may encounter reliability issue's in the near future. Mind you i don;t have a PS3 yet, but if i get one it would be the oler model, since that wasn't made with a budget in mind, and i agree that it definetely looks better. but i'll most likely buy my ps3 in Japan when i visit there next year.

  • I called up 5 stores in Sydney and none have stock!

Anyone know of any in NSW that have stock?

  • Heya,

I can confirm Big W Mirrabooka (Perth, WA) has one left, though ring them first just to double check. I called them and they said they had two, in which case I bought one. =]
