  • Hey REP, can you buy these without the RAM & HDD?

    No Deals on the i5?

    • +1

      Plus One, even i3.

let vote for a better machine than a celeron. i3 NUC with wireless + optional ram + optional HDD

        • i5 NUC 5th Gen would be great…

        • @Ford351: Not yet released in Au as far as i know

  • Good enough for simple htpc?

    • +1

      From my experience yes.

    • Maybe not 3D but otherwise should be okay.

    • I have one of these running Win7 Pro 32bit - Windows Media Center + xbmc … runs fine.

WMC menus are slightly more sluggish than my other HTPC, but at half the price, I can live with that.

  • Hi REP,
any deals on the used PCs?

    thanks

Can this be used as a NAS? And will Foxtel GO work on this device?

    • No* and Yes

*Well, maybe, if you count a single disk device as a NAS

  • How does the CPU in this jigger compare to a 1st generation i7?

    • the i7 is better

  • Hi rep,
Doesn't look like it has an MSATA port, can you please confirm?

    • +1

There's no mSATA at all in this unit recording to Intel website.
This one only support standard 2.5" HDD or SSD by a normal SATA port.

  • Would be great to see a competitive deal out there for a non-Celeron CPU version :)

  • Is this good for Plex server? Or better go for a NAS?

    • It should run well as a Plex server however it can only easily run a single 2.5" drive so you'll have limited storage and no redundancy. Go for a NAS with a Plex Plugin (eg. Xpenology based NAS) and you'll have multiple 3.5" drive capability for WAY more safer & cheaper data storage.

I suppose it all comes down to if you just want a basic machine to act mainly as a Plex server with limited & non-redundant data storage OR if you want more of a NAS for safely storing massive amounts of 'everything' that can also conveniently act as a Plex server.

      • Will it have enough CUP power.. heard that if the CUP is low transcoding is poor.

        • Going by the HTPC comment above I'd say it should do eveything well enough but not 3D or 4K extreme stuff. I don't know for sure but if the crappy low powered CPU in my N54L Microserver can handle most media well enough then I'd say this would be streets ahead of that!
