  • How does this phone compare to the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen phone that was on sale at the GoodGuys a few days ago?

I realize this one has 4G which the other one didn't, but aside from that which would be better?

  • +1

I picked up one of these at GoodGuys during stocktake for $200 or around this price.
Great phone, fast, very little bloatware, easy to transfer apps to SD.

Difference between the 2nd gen and this is screen is smaller than the 2nd Gen, 2nd gen includes an update to lollipop, 1st gen has KitKat, not much else different.

I would say best value 4G phone available, given the specs near the $200 mark. Easy to find reviews online, all positive.

    • 2nd gen battery is not as good due to screen size. However battery is simply amazing on this phone (1st gen). Just got my screen replaced on it for $120, if I knew I could get a newie for this price I would have.

This is my first android phone and I could not be happier with it. Has everything except a good camera, however 2nd gen has a decent 8mp shooter from reviews. If you can wait, hang out for the Moto g 2nd gen with 4g. Seems a bit apple like that they don't release it with 4g off the bat. If you have any questions about the phone yell out. 1st gen is due to get lollipop soon, its starting to roll out in the uk, Canada and us from all reports.

Maybe try Installing "motorola update services" from appstore. mine told me to install this before the lollipop 5.0 rollout then a abotu a month later it updated via OTA. Its been on lollipop for 3 weeks now.

        • Cheers. Ill give it a whirl

      • Had Lollipop for ages. Over a month.

        • +1

Note to Oxford dictionary - please change meaning of ages to one month. 😄😄

        • @expertreader: It's already in there mate. 2.2 (ages/an age) British informal - A very long time: 'I haven’t seen her for ages.' A month is along time in tech time.

  • My Gen1 non 4G has recieved the Lollipop upgrade via OTA updates. Great phone for the money. I think the gen2 upgraded camera and 5" screen is still worth better I think if you dont need 4G.

    • my gen2 has the worst camera on just about anything i've ever seen

i dont think i've taken a picture with it that is of sufficient quality to share on THIS forum…

      • Hmm yeah the camera is a letdown on the 5mp gen1 as well.

  • Excellent phone, great price. Battery life is very good. I frequently forget to charge overnight and managed to get two days. In my opinion better than a nexus 4 apart from screen size.

  • Got one of these last year, great phone (maybe the non 4G version, not sure how to tell), also I've never noticed an SD slot on it?

    • The first-gen non-4G MotoG doesn't have a micro-SD slot (the XT1033 model sold in Australia). It has 2 SIM slots instead.

DO NOT BUY 1GB RAM ANDROID PHONE!

    • reasons?

    • +2

Valid argument. What phone would you recommended? Keeping in mind the price range and features? Brand name, and build quality, battery life ?I find 1Gb sufficient, paired with the quad core processor.

  • Buying, I need a phone.

Oh btw, Officeworks got rid of stock too then?

  • Got one for my wife from the previous Good Guys sales (upgrade from HTC desire S), she's very happy with it. Had a problem with the SIM card popping out which seems a common problem but I stuck some sticky tape on it to make the SIM card thicker and no problems since.
PS. I would stick with kitkat 4.4.4
