  • The best deal I've ever had for Morning. Cheers!

  • Complimentary amenity kit with eyeshades, toothbrush, toothpaste and socks

I have never received an amenities bag on a Qantas economy flight before, even on the long trans-Pacific/Indian flights. Is this something unique to flights to Singapore?

    • Could be on the reconfig A330 maybe?

    • I have always had these, seems odd that you haven't

    • +1

have to ask for these. They won't just hand one out if you dont ask

    • I've been given them on A330 flights but not on A380 flights. May be due to different crew contracts?

  • +1

This is so cheap for a Qantas International flight!

    • +1

Having just spent the best part of a day travelling to avoid $650/leg domestic economy flights to Canberra, it's a bloody great deal for Qantas.

      • CBR flights have gotten obscene. CBR-MEL $175. MEL-SIN $299. wtf?

      • Agree - I just had to pay additional $600pp to get my domestic connections to Sydney for the same international flight that my friends in Brisbane had included in their international ticket… No extra, same price :-(

        • When I lived in CBR I used to drive to SYD to board international flights there. It's freeway all the way to the airport

        • @Wampus:

We almost did, but then parking the car for a month was a problem.

        • Tempted to do this. Qantas landed 50mins late, meaning the 45mins I'd left to get to the last Greyhound bus for the night was moot.

        • +1

          @Lady: More of a problem than $600pp? :)

i knew i should of taken today off to plan my singapore holiday

  • Prices based on payment at qantas.com by BPAY.

If you use your credit card for travel insurance expect to pay more.

  • Damn no October dates :*(

  • Old A330's to Singapore though.

    • +6

Wow, a bit harsh to say that the A330s are "old". The oldest A330-300 is 11 years and the oldest A330-200 is 7 years…. which is about the same age as the oldest A380.

      • I'm pretty sure he's referring to the A330's that haven't been refurbished. The non-refurbished one have extremely tiny entertainment screens and are just not enjoyable at all to watch.

        • I flew Sydney to Johannesburg on a B747 with the same tiny screens, it was such a major disappointment after coming off a domestic B737 which had massive screens in comparison.

    • +7

Damn. I expected first class seats on A380s and being served lobsters stuffed in tacos.

      • +1

        Lobsters stuffed with tacos*

    • +1

At a refresh of about 1 plane a month you can't expect an entire fleet of new ones immediately. There are a few new ones in that sale I'm sure, some fly out of melbourne and some out of sydney. Luck of the game!

      • fwiw they are doing them in parallel…hence more then one a month :)

        • One hopes so but there is still only one A330-300 done

  • +1

    Great marketing.
Still 799 return (SYD to bkk) which is regular sale price.
Can maximise savings by flying home scoot or other low cost carrier.

    • +1

I have got via bestjet for $573.

    • +2

It's $599 rt for both SIN and BKK, your dates are probably off/ sold out.

      • correct, i was looking outside the dates for return leg.

  • so upset! jumped on the recent air asia deal to kl which ended up costing roughly 1000 for the mrs, me and my 1 yr old daughter - would much rather have paid 200 extra to get qantas.
    anything i can do?

    • +4

Fly Air Asia and then book an other trip with Qantas

    • I don't think so.

    • Cry?

  • Hmm I'm waiting/hoping for a Fly Scoot sale for this price return…

    • +1

$387 SYD-SIN rt e.g. 24-27 April if that floats your boat.

      • Looking for flights from OOL. Some of them seem to be about $350 but looking at their history of sales posted on OzB it has been $300 or less many times for return flights.

  • can also get same prices on Emirates (SYD-BKK flights are on Emirates or Qantas metal, appears SYD-SIN flights are on Qantas metal only)

personally I prefer the 6.45pm Emirates than the 9.45am Qantas for SYD-BKK leg.

The great thing about flying cheap to Singapore is that you can avoid the Australia tax and connect up to Europe. Etihad allows you to fly from Singapore to a destination and then with a return flight to Sydney (through Abu Dhabi) for cheap. Here are some of the flights I found in April:

Singapore -> Abu Dhabi -> Sydney: 569 SGD ($538 AUD)
    Singapore -> Paris -> Sydney: 1055 SGD ($996 AUD)
    Singapore -> Rome -> Sydney: 1018 SGD ($960 AUD)
    Singapore -> Istanbul -> Sydney: 1099 SGD ($1014 AUD)

Which when including the SYD-SIN leg, means quite a good price for a trip with all legs full-service:
SYD to Abu Dhabi return = $868 AUD Total
SYD to Paris return = $1354 AUD Total
SYD to Rome return = $1317 AUD Total
SYD to Istanbul return = $1398 AUD Total

I have also found similar prices for Melbourne flights, but haven't check Brisbane. I've used FF points for the SYD-SIN leg then flown Etihad to other destinations before and it can save you quite a lot. Make sure you overnight in Singapore though to cater for flight delays as the tickets will be on different itineraries.

    • How do you book the return as that? As normally it has origin->destination only in the search tool.

      • +1

Multi city search. Rome for example would be SIN-FCO-SYD. Open jaw in aviation parlance. You could also do a double open jaw and go SIN-FCO;CDG-SYD if you'd prefer. Departing city matters quite a bit due to departure taxes (e.g. try to avoid the UK, especially LHR)

        • Yes that's a good point, once you get to a european city then transport between countries is readily available and often quite cheap. A tour of a few countries could then finish with departing from a different city.

        • So you could do for example.

PER->wherever->SYD? And it wouldn't cost an arm & a leg? (some airlines seem to have one way fares being ~80% of the return price unless on a good sale).

I found some ones for $4500 which are no good

        • @rochow: Ugh stupid airlines. KUL->LHR = $1000 with Malaysia Air. BKK->KUL->LHR is $600 and you have the same flight plus an additional! So weird…

        • @rochow:

In October I found this with MH too. Flew SIN>KL>PER with them for $75! To book the standalone KL>PER leg was over $250!

        • multi city search- what do you recommend? Kayak for this? Is kayak the only way to do Open jaw research?

    • Back when the AUD was stronger you could do those Europe trips for under $1k all up with an LCC on the AU-SIN leg. Quite sure there's been a couple of posts about it here on ozbargain. At $1.3k+ it isn't with the hassle imo, normal sale prices are around that much anyway with Etihad all the way.

      • sorry what is an LCC?

        • LCC = Low Cost Carrier

  • The Bangkok fare is slightly cheaper with Jumpee Travel at $290/$580. I have purchased with them before and they seem to consistently beat the airline sale fares. Despite all the Thai language on their website, the staff also speak English :)
