  • This is almost double the price of my bike.

    • +1

      You paid for your bike?!

      • Yeah, the 8th commandment means something to me.

        • I got my $0 city bike from freecycle. Sort of ironic.

        • @altomic:

Free bike, not purloined? How? Why? Where? When? Who is freecycle?

        • @strangeloops66: freecycle - online global community where people give away stuff or request stuff.

          check out this link

sort of an online hard rubbish thingo. for people who don't want to create landfill and know that other people may want their unwanted stuff.

when I moved from Albury to Bris I got rid of so much stuff that I would have otherwise had to cart to the tip.

        • @altomic:

Thanks for the link. I should have got it, with free rhyming with re, but I was sold a dummy by the connection with bicycles.

  • While these isn't even coming close to the price of my commuter bike, it is treading into ortlieb price territory:

    http://www.bike24.com/p211079.html
    http://www.bike24.com/p215042.html

€20 shipping, but minus 20% for no vat.

    • Interesting 4-dimensional bag (320mm x 230mm x 420mm x 170mm) :P, I'm assuming this is because the bag is tapered. The Thule is more expensive, but I like that I can 'convert' it to a messenger bag without an additional carrying system. Also unhappy that these are still full price in AU when it's discontinued in US.

    • I have been informed that Ortlieb have started imposing export restrictions on bike24.

  • It would be good to mention that it is $98usd somewhere in the description + $88.83usd p&h (cheapest shipping option to Melbourne). So its well over $200aud.
I'd personally go an Ortlieb any day compared to this, they are bulletproof. The Thule is listed as waterproof, but includes a raincover!, which is always a bad sign.
You can sometimes pickup on-sale Ortlieb panniers from UK online bike stores or even locally.

    • Have you a link to one on sale?

      • octagonalman comments below show an example, even a non-hot pink Ortlieb Back Roller Classic (Pair) is only $185 +$10p&h.
UK wise, I've bought some Ortlieb stuff from Wiggle before, there's also Frugal Rouleur which searches some of the major UK online bike stores for products.

    • Was going to take up on your suggestion to display the USD price, but it looks like the title's changed by admin, I can't change it anymore.

There was a review suggesting the Thule might not resist monsoonal rain, hence the raincover.

  • I bought an Ortlieb office bag from these guys for $120 at the start of the year. They do $10 shipping.

It looks like there's a sale on hazel office bags and hot pink back roller classics.

  • I have these. Quite waterproof if somewhat heavy. But that's the penality for being waterproof. Sometimes on sale for around $70-$80

  • +1 for Ortlieb panniers.
I have the classic back roller in yellow, a colleague has the plus in dark red (cordura material).
I figure it's safer on the commute home to have higher-vis yellow.
