Using Google for exchange rate calculation (from which I approximated AUD as well)
USD $110.42 -> AUD $141.19

It popped up in one of the websites I go to as a deal, I thought it may interest some of you.
It's a tegra note device that came out on 2013. It has a reasonable spec (other than 1GB RAM).
I know that some products from HP are under global warranty, but I get the feeling this isn't one of them. If anybody is interested in asking HP about this, that would clarify it.

Since it's from US, if there is no global warranty, it would probably not have any local warranties on it. Please bear this in mind when you are considering this as an option.

Spec From GSM Arena

Weight: 319.8 g
Display: IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size: 7.0 inches (~59.2% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution: 800 x 1280 pixels (~216 ppi pixel density)
Chipset: Nvidia Tegra 4
Internal: 16 GB, 1 GB RAM
Port: 1x micro HDMI, 1x microSD card slot
With DirectStylus input

Directly comparable device in Australia would probably be HP Slate 7 Beats Edition (As far as I know, I am happy to be proven wrong here)

Cheapest I've seen on this is AUD $229.00 from HP Store or AUD $249.00 from Dick Smith

I mean if you're gonna forgo Aus warranty the Onda specs blow this one out of the water for only a little extra. I know this one is a brand name, but is there any other reason this would be a better option?

Chinese tabs/mobiles are usually a hardware lottery. You may or may not get a unit that has minor/major faults, due to poor quality control and corner cutting.

There's a significantly lesser chance of you getting a defect unit if it's a branded device. Also better quality charger and USB cable etc.

      • The iPad/iPhone are Chinese tabs/mobiles?

Apple has a really stringent quality control, whereas the Chinese ones usually are more lenient. I think that is what he means by that.

For example, Foxconn does a lot of manufactoring for many many different companies, but their reputation on build quality differs.

        • @AznMitch:
          Yeah…

"Three to four thousand employees walked out of Foxconn's Zhengzhou factory on Friday, according to China Labor Watch. It said Foxconn and Apple had "raised overly strict demands on product quality" without providing adequate training."

    • Stylus? mini HDMI port? Not everyone is comfortable with Chinese tablets? I don't know about this too much (I've mentioned this on the page), but several people from the place I got this from were saying that it is under global warranty, As it is from people on that website, I didn't want to say it without checking it first. So I've sent an email to the HP Support US and antonline, the seller, to clarify it. Though I think benefit of doubt would probably work in this situation.

Even if it is not, I thought the price looked reasonable, compared to other options that I've mentioned.

  • this looks goods … i buy this if we dont have one

  • Not sure what makes this extreme, but an active stylus and micro SD are always nice.

    • It's better than the HP Slate 7. I think the stylus allows you to have a stylus mode where it only takes stylus input, (from my 5 seconds usage of HP Slate 7 Extreme Beats Edition, which can be very wrong).
