  • I'd be wary getting these low memory windows 8 laptops especially with the slow harddrives. I find windows 8 to be quite a memory hog and it puts a massive strain on the hard drive. If you intend on buying this I would think about throwing an ssd in there.

I concede the point about the slow hard drive (would be a terrible experience operating this) but 4GB Ram is fine imo. The processor seems reasonable, it's faster than a celeron but slower than an i3. http://cpuboss.com/cpu/AMD-E2-6110

      • this laptop format makes no sense to me either way

its cheap and i can live with the AMD guts and the 4gb 500gb slow hdd but i aint carting a 2.2kg 15" lump of shit everywhere

Everyone knows you have pays extra for lighter unit
Good laptop for around the house and taking away on holidays.

i kinda disagree, with the rise of chromebooks and tablets, i find it hard to fathom why a 11-12" unit with the same guts makes it all that much more expensive

you're already losing the DVD drive that is dead weight

          @tonyjzx:
Problem with chromebook it needs Internet, where windows still can do stuff offline.
15 inch with low res is good those who sight is not to great.
DVD drive, it is dead weight, but still there are some who still have stuff on DVD
like dvd movies. Dont forget files on burnt dvd are less acceptable corruption than portable hard disk.

There are so many laptop around still using 5400RPM hard disk includes a lot of i5 model. With 4GB ram really doesn't matter and they are very usable.

I think you better check what you have installed? May be not Windows 8, may be it is your Norton, Trend Micro, etc.

      • ^^ This ^^

        • ^^ This ^^

May be I am too old what that means? :p

Hahaha,….I'm not so young myself. Your right, was a bit vague. I meant that I agree with both points that you made above.

          I'm on your side :-)

        • @ozhunter68:

          ^^ This ^^ means agree?

        • @superforever:

Yes. I think I thought I saw a few similar comments with ^^ from other ( younger trendy posters ), but could be completely wrong.

I elaborated in below post with a bit of a rant. LOL

  • bought 1 for my little sister.

    • Your little sister will need someone to carry it for her :)

      • A lot of people only use laptop at home.

      • +1

Oh she left it at home. I had gotten her a 13' macbook air for her daily travel to school. This one just for movies or workstation or perhaps a room decoration? hehehe.

After reading some of these comments, I want to add something to this discussion.

I think many people here are being unfair to this and similar laptop computers. Some seem to compare this to expensive laptops over $700, ultrabooks or tablets. For a start, it is a computer, running W8.1 ( probable low cost or free upgrade to W10 soon ) with full size ports and big 15.6" screen, and weighs 2.20 Kg.. If you want more storage and Ram or SSD, look at spending well over $600. If you want considerably lighter and smaller, then get an thin and light smaller laptop or ultrabook, for this kind of performance usually over $600. Other option is get a tablet which is small and light, but more limiting and in a completely different class.

Only a few years ago, any 15" laptop under 2.5 Kg. was considered light, and as stated by OP and others, most people buying these would mainly use at home. Memory wise, 4 GB ram and 500 BG HHD is still standard and ample for under $600. If your after better performance, swap the HHD for a SSD, either putting it in a caddy where the DVD drive bay is, or put it in an external USB3 case.
For $359 this represents great value for it's class with decent performance and still flexible peripherals. Just don't compare it to a much more expensive laptop or ultrabook double the price, or a tablet.
