  • Hmmm anyone know much about the PQI drives?
    What controller they use?
    What ram chips they use?
    Do they support TRIM?

For the price that is a kick ass bargain for a 128Gb SSD with those reported speeds.

    Might be a misprint.

    • i dont think it supports trim

the pqi drives are the dreaded jMicron host controllers that have the bad random write speeds. its only got fast sequential write speeds. Although the descriptions mention SLC is reccomended, the drive description actually indicates that its a slower MLC drive.

this drive is bad. Thats why there is a price drop.

however, that is not to say, it is better than buying normal hard drives. Although i do reccomend waiting a few months because TRIM is being released and prices for SSDs are already falling. Better save up for a decent ssd

for reference: the first few posts of http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=162782 and google searches should confirm this

i personally have bought an intel x25-m g2, great disk.

i would also reccomend reading this great article (skim through all pages of it)
      http://anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3631&p=1
you will know how ssds work and what brands are good and the comparisons and pros and cons.

PQI isnt even listed cause its the jmicron host controller based which the article also discusses.

if it was an OCZ vertex for $155 that would be a true bargain

      +1 from me anyway

  • Surely an error. Given the amateurish nature of the site, it wouldn't surprise me.

    Tried though, I'll report back

    • Got a BS email about no stock, and a follow up indicating they are backlogged hinting the orders might be fulfilled. The incompetents running the site must also have sent out the email, didn't even use BCC, and then people start using reply to all to make things worse.

  • +3

2.5' damn that's huge! I don't think that would even fit in my computer.

    • +2

      is obviously 2.5 inches ;)

      • No, it says feet. This is the problem with outsourcing production to far east companies.
One small mistake in the specifications, and 2 months later a shipping container of 75cm hard drives arrive.
So you have to sell 'em off dirt cheap on a dodgy website and hope nobody notices.

  • looks a good bargain if correct, i put through an order and payed, if its a mistake will the refund or do they have to sell it for that price?

  • anyone know the shipping for this to QLD?

    • $35 - it's on their site

  • holy crap i just ordered an intel x25-m g2 from the states for $300 lol. its the best drive out there. but even though pqi isnt that good i cant complain about this price!

    • where did you order the x25-m g2 from?

did you pay $300 AUD, with or without shipping?

      • without shipping. shopblt.com us site then used a shipping service to import it here

  • Shows you how much they know about the product - they call it an SSD HDD :/

I wouldn't touch it unless I knew the controller it is using. If its not Intel or Indillinx its not worth bothering with.

    • +1

      its jmicron, fail.

      • Massive.

It depends on what you are using the hdd for.

i have all my games installed on a PQI SSD and all i can say is WOW.

If you are going to install your O/S on this drive then you will be disappointed, if you use this hdd as a secondary device for opening up files in photoshop or games, then you will be very happy, my games load in no time at all and there is no stuttering effect as its a game and not a critical system like the operating system

        • basically ur saying its good for sequential reading and writing but fails on random read writes which is what the OS does during boot up.

  • i'm tempted to order one, but thinking about the complications of it being an error, i'm going to pass.

  • Hi there:

Thank you for placing an order from internet with us. And we are here writing to let you know that the 128GB SSD HDD is not in stock at the moment; we also have checked with our supplier and the answer is still NO, we are sorry about any inconvenience caused by this; and if you have transfer your money to our account already, we’ll do refund to you.

Translates roughly to "we made a pricing error and will not own up to it".

…guess who paid 1 minute before getting this email?

    • so is anyone who ordered getting one? Sounds like grounds for the ACCC to investigate if they've advertised a product and had no stock….though, the ACCC doesn't tend to ever actually do anything….:P

      • they could easily argue that having the post on ozbargin was not expected and exceeded their predicted supply four fold.

        • my point is if no-one who ordered it gets it, then it's dodgy - if they simply ran out of stock, that's fair enough

  • They send everyones email address to everyone that ordered one too, breaking the privacy laws

  • dont worry guys, it wasnt really a great bargain that you missed out on anyway. like i mentioned earlier, better off saving up and buying a proper SSD.

  • this couldn't have been handled worse

as of 5pm next day the page it still up and you can still order!

oh and thanks for not using BCC in the email

    that's tops!
