this or: SanDisk Extreme PRO 240GB SATA 6.0Gb/s? is there much difference?

I got the sandisk when they where 130… (it does have less capacity)

Seems like tech prices aren't dropping as fast as they used too…?(considering i bought the sandisk over half a year ago… )

Maybe it's more our dollar effecting the price drop?

The Samsung 850 PRO is very impressive (you're not confusing it with the 840 are you?), I have little knowledge of the SanDisk Extreme but I'd say the sammy is a clear winner. That said, in everyday use would you notice the different? Unlikely. If one is significantly cheaper go with that. I myself love the Samsung SSD's, I've had other brands fail but Samsung keeps on going. Luck of the draw maybe but I'm sticking with them.

      • nah, talking US dollars, and according to camelcamelcamel… the SSDS's really haven't dropped all that much.

        • Ah fair enough. However I think the Samsung 840's (particularly EVO's) should be very cost effective. I have a 840 PRO (the fastest of the 840's, yet somewhat slower than the new 850's) and 2 years in I'm still impressed with it's performance. It's the first SSD that hasn't turned to mush after heavy usage. I've put mine through some torture and it still bounces back to near day-1 performance. Love it.

But after conversion you are looking at AUD203, that's like AUD11 difference with MSY, so savings are not substantial. Rather get locally for ease of warranty returns.

    • From my understanding Amazon will pay both to and return postage for warranty. Hence it really shouldn't matter. Or am I mistaken?

      • +3

Why bother with that? Just rock up MSY in the brick and mortar store, swap it and there you have it.

        • With a store like msy, don't they tend to ask you to send it to the manufacturer? I don't think its a straight swap

@t25: Nope, under ACCC law, place of purchase store needs to deal with the warranty returns. If it is under a month, normally it would be straight swap, but if it is longer than that, it would be a waiting game. But that is not my point, point is you buy local, you are protected under ACCC law.

        • @cloudie9: Afaik msy only will handle your warranty for 12 months. After that you deal with shipping and manufacturer warranty at your discretion.i am not confident that Samsung Australia has a base of operations for warranties regarding pc parts, therefore Amazon is still a considerable option

        • @nairdajun: that's not correct. I had a PSU that broke under warranty 3 years after purchase. MSY dealt with it on my behalf.

        • @nairdajun: Not true, I had my ASrock mobo broken down on its last year (3rd out of 3 years warranty) and they sent them away to get fixed.

        • Many of us don't live close to an actual store front, freight for warranty is not cheap, even worse now Aust Post is putting up their prices.

        • @Slo20@cloudie9:

Then you may have been lucky to get a kind salesperson. They are not obliged to deal with it on your behalf. Stores such as scorptec offer manufacturers based rtb warranty. Which means if Samsung says 3 years, they'll send it off for you within 3 years. Msy will charge you after 1 year if they feel like it. Read below their terms of trade

          General Warranty
          39. MSY Technology provides a 12-month from the purchase date “RTB” (Return-To-Base) warranty on goods we sell. Customers are liable for any return postage which may incur. When you RTB your goods, we will repair it, or, at our option, replace, it when we consider it defective.

      • How do you claim it? Do you pay for postage first and they credit you after they receive it? Do they look at the postage price on the sticker and convert it from AUD into USD for you?

  • shoppingexpress has it for 159 AUD (free shipping)
