Logitech Z50 Multimedia Speaker $12 @ MSY ($11.40 OfficeWorks Pricematch)

70

Good price for a well known brand beating its last deal by a buck. 10w speaker. 3.5mm jack.
4.2/5 star review at Amazon. Static has these from $16.95 to $25.

Note that this is not a bluetooth portable speaker. It has no volume control. Requires an external power supply (included).

    CNET review 3/5
    http://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-multimedia-speaker-z50…

The good The Logitech Z50 plays loud for its compact size, is simple to set up and use, and takes up very little room on a desk. Best of all, it only costs around $20 and works with nearly every device.
The bad No battery or wireless option; the exposed speaker driver might get damaged if something is dropped on it; bass is light and the speaker can distort at higher volumes.
The bottom line The Logitech Z50 is about as no-frills as you get for a multimedia speaker, but at $20 it's not a bad deal for the sound it delivers.

  • Note, the Z130 can be had for $24 and provides more definitive sound with speaker protection (no little fingers)

  • What's the best value USB powered speaker? Can't stand ac power cables

    • +1

How about the Creative SBS-A50 for $16. There is at least one left at MSY Ultimo branch. Or maybe the ultra cheapy Gigabyte GP-S2000 for $11. Guaranteed not to annoy the neighbours.

    • Woolworths have a set of reasonably good stereo speakers at the moment, I bought a set a month ago for $19 I think. You won't get astounding bass out of them, but nor will you get more bass from any speakers in this price range. USB plug for power, 3.5mm jack for audio input, and there is a volume knob on the back of the left speaker.

      • problem with USB powered is that they draw a massive 5v 700ma (or 500ma?)

this isnt good enough to get enough volume AND quality sound

        • A battery-powered portable stereo has about the same power consumption, and they can produce plenty of volume. USB powered speakers are fine for personal listening.

      • The speakers I bought are "hub" brand, "Exclusively at Woolworths".
