Free: Google Play Credits for Opinions (via Android App)

2530

Thought I'd re-post this after 12 months in the wilderness. A friend reminded me of this today after telling me he received $2.80 over the past few weeks for answering a few questions. Enjoy :)

Answer quick surveys and earn Google Play credits with Google Opinion Rewards, an app created by Google Consumer Surveys.

Getting started is easy. Download the app and answer basic questions about yourself. We'll then send you surveys around once a week, although it may be more or less frequent. You'll get a notification on your phone when a short and relevant survey is ready for you, and can receive up to $1.00 in Play credits for completing it. Questions can range from, "Which logo is best?" and "Which promotion is most compelling?" to "When do you plan on traveling next?"

Mod: We have allowed this post as it does not break duplicate rules for a deal post. However with such time passing, we will see this as free software in the future, rather than allowing it to be posted as a deal again. Thanks

Haven't had any new surveys for 3 months now, though I do still have $35 in credit :)

    • +8

Agree. They used to pay over 50 cents per survey and send few times a month. Most i get now is 10 cents and in the rare occasion 20 cents . The $1 ones come every 3 months or so

      • It depends on the number of questions you answer. Sometime your first choice puts you out of the topic that is being surveyed so you don't even see the other questions. Then you get paid less. But generally more questions, more money.

      • I had one for .54c yesterday

        • +2

did they round it up to 1c?

    • +2

Been receiving them around 5 times a month for about 3 months.

    • You should at least got this one or possibly this one.

  • +1

do you know how quick you can get the credit?
and anyone knows where to get discounted google play gift cards?

    • +6

It's credited to your account as soon as you submit the survey. Just a warning though, don't try and lie for more credit, they'll often give you the same survey again and cross check your answers to make sure you haven't been making anything up. If you've been caught lying you won't get any surveys.

    • +1

The discounted cards pop up on OZbargain occasionally https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/phonebot.com.au

  • +2

    I made $35 in last 11 months.

    • I've made $5.76 since December, but feels like I'm going at a snails pace. .. ..

      • +1

        coz you are!

        • Actually, it's inline / on track with those who said they earnt $35 in a year…

        • @nismo: agreed :)

  • +20

I've managed to gain about $15 of Google Play credit over the last 12 months. Some of the surveys are literally only 1 question, the longest I've ever had was maybe 6..

In January I got asked if I identify myself as Chinese, on 4 different occasions. I guess they just wanted to be sure!

    • +2

      Classic!

    • +1

Your name isn't Bruce Lee by any chance is it?

    • That happened to me too. I kept saying no, I guess they were checking I wasn't a bot.

    • you should've shown your profile pic

  • +19

does anyone else answer the question/s and wonder "if I'd only selected the other answer would I have got more than 8c?"

    • +27

I am now father of 3

    • I found when I set my mothers phone up that her age bracket she set up as seemed to get more questions than mine, so my next one I think I'll set myself up as a pensioner and see if it improves

  • +1

I'm at about $52 … don't know what to buy..!

    • I'm in the same boat with $29. I keep looking and never seem interested in anything.

      • -1

It would be nice if they allowed credit transfers to other users. Such a move would only help further build the number of android users out there.

        • +1

This would significantly deflate how much google play credit is worth.

        • +1

@noz: if you can get credit for free, people will just buy credit and sell it at a margin.

        • or have multiple fake accounts and redirect them all into 1

And I thought I had first world problems.

      • Music and movies, think of it as donating to your favourite franchises :)

I've upgraded all the free apps to their Pro equivalent, or switched from a free app to a paid alternative (if the paid alternative is better).
Also bought a few apps that I wouldn't otherwise have sprung for.
The only free apps on my phone are ones that have no paid alternative (or that do as good or better job than a paid alternative)

Surely it can't be that hard, buy a movie or TV show, especially if you pirated it in the past.
Basically distribute the wealth to support the artists/developers that make stuff you like. Hopefully thay'll take that money and make more stuff you like!

  • +8

We need a forum thread for worth while android purchases from this.
Edit : Make an app, Buy that app, turn credits into $

  • I've gotten about $30 or so over the past year. Still got about $12. Though they seem to be slowing the flow of surveys. I was getting a few bucks a month. Now I probably get one a week which rewards about 20c.

Does anyone know if the credit can be used for Google All Access Music?

    • As in play music? Pretty sure you can.

    • Yes you can.

  • +1

Used to be good when it started. Now its like 10 to 20 cents per survey which they send 1 or 2 times a month.

    • +3

And your complaining about that? Its almost no effort to complete the survey!

  • I have bought a whole bunch of music… still have $9 left!

  • +6

I always get the survey "You won't get any Google credit for this…"

    • First one is like that. In some cases, they will ask you to answer some surveys for free (mainly to check you are not a robot - well that's what Google indicated).

Used to be quite good. Now, only a few surveys.

  • I get them fairly regularly, one of the recent ones asked about my location history and if i was happy to answer a question based on that

    • +1

Same. I was then asked to confirm what day I went to a particular store, via multiple choice.

Kind of weird/disconcerting that they already knew the answer, it was like I was being tested.

  • +1

I have not got any surveys for nearly 6 months now.
    Don't know what happens

  • +4

I got a survey asking how my experience was at MacDonalds including the date I was there. That was odd

    • +1

      Google's always watching :p

    • That's interesting, this goes directly against their T&C. The Ads account is not functionally connected to your main.

Are my answers used to target ads?
The ads an user sees will not change as a result of their answers to survey questions. Your answer to this question is anonymous - it's not connected to your personally identifiable information, or used to show ads to you. This sort of anonymous sampling information, when aggregated with other users’ answers, can be used to help Google improve the ads we show across the web including by showing more relevant ads to users based on their interests and demographics.

      • +1

        No it doesn't..
They went to McD and got a survey question about McD..
If they got a survey question about McD and then got McD adverts for the following week, then it might be "breaking the T&C"

        • The issue is they pulled the location history from your main account.

        • @algy:
But the T&C you've highlighted refers specifically to ads..
They haven't pulled the Location History to target an ad, they've pulled the Location History to target a Survey Question.

        • @scubacoles: I was pretty sure it said it doesn't link the two accounts at all.

  • +12

Thought I'd re-post this after 12 months in the wilderness.

Does this mean that we can search through all the old posts for unexpired deals and post them again? Or is that something only OzBargain Royalty can do?

You guys do realise that more people signing up for this means less rewards for us? They would have $X in rewards per year allocated to Australia, not an average of $Y in rewards per person per year.

    • +5

It is good to share. Plus, if there are more people, Google can tell companies they can get a larger number of people.

Thing is, this app has always been free… didn't it is okay to post it as a deal.

    • You're right… But then if we all took this route there'd be no OzBargain. I had a great scam going on Vistaprint for a couple of years until it was allowed back on here. C'est la vie!

  • +2

Doing the surveys since mid Jan, and I got $5.10 so far.

Just a hunch, but I feel you get more surveys if you give them bullshit answers that indicate you could be a potential customer ie. tick very interested in signing up for health insurance.

    • On a reddit thread it was also speculated that if your promoted yourself as being from a less common demographic than the age 15-30 white male you were of more interest to marketers/researchers or whoever they sell the data to, and would therefore get more surveys. I found these older threads while googling around trying to work out why I had had a good run of surveys but that they seemed to have stopedp entirely early December.

    • I always do 18-24 white female, I get at least 3/4 surveys a week by doing this when asked.

      • do you know if we can change preferences?

        • There's no "preference", every now and then you'll be asked your age/gender for some surveys and once you finish them I guess it influences the next surveys over the next few days/weeks.

  • +3

For some reason my surveys always go to my tablet, which I rarely use, instead of my phone which is used every 2.5 seconds.

    • +3

Uninstall the app from your tablet then!

      • Um, good point.

  • Google Rewards is great. I've collected just over $50 in the past 12 months. I've been getting surveys reasonably regularly with the last one being today where I received $1.00.

  • +1

I read in other forums that women tend to get way more surveys than men. Also, it's good to have your cellphone location tracking and history activated, but this was commented in a US forum. Some people said their wives received double the amount of surveys, and others said that since they turned the location history on, they would receive surveys related to the placed they visited the day before (such as going to home depot one day, they would get a survey about that store the next day).

In my case, I receive around 2 surveys every month. Also, i received one related to energy providers after googling for the website iSelect (which was supposed to help me compare electricity providers), so maybe the more you use google to search for things, the more surveys you can get.

    • That's certainly not the case with my wife and I. We're both the same age, similar income and in similar employment. However, not only do I get more surveys, I get paid more for identical surveys where the same answers are inputted. I know this because I do her surveys for her.

      • What if because you're doing her surveys for her, her answers are less than what they want to target.

  • I just keep receiving the same intro survey. Havent got a single cent after an year.

  • Have earnt $38 since I installed the app, no idea when that was but I have $38 credit.
Would recommend - surveys take seconds.

  • Made $40+ last year with it. Sometimes got several 1 question ones a day.

  • yeah have spent a little of it but currently got about $19 credit, probably got about $30 so far from the app.
I think it helps to have it on multiple devices, seem to get surveys on each of them not always at the same time but sometimes the same one on more than one device so can get more credit.
Often if you answer No you only get 10 cents or so as they would have most likely had follow up questions that you no longer get if you answer no to the initial question.

  • I saw FREE & opinions and thought I better jump on this quickly to give mine… Then I read the rest of it!

  • What happens to unused credit? At one stage I was up to about $38 and then when I next looked at it a few days later, it was down to about $15 or so. I hadn't purchased anything. This has happened a few times since then. I get the credits up to a certain limit and then for no reason, it drops down by about $10 or so.

There's no help section that tells me if credits expire and there's no customer service to complain to.

Anyone know what the go is there?

    • +2

Expires after 12 months I believe.

    • From memory, when you earn something the app will tell you that the credit expires in a year (small writing towards bottom). I only noticed this recently.

      • Interesting. I haven't even been using the app for a year and the credit keeps disappearing.

  • +1

Got the app about two weeks ago. Filled in "Klingon" for the fields for Gender and Occupation. The app still says "Thankyou for signing up for Google Opinion Rewards. We'll send you a notification when you're approved to answer surveys."

  • +1

I got a buck for telling them my gender and whether I was from China or not.

    Rock on!

    • Me too.

      Pretty happy so far

    • Yeah man Asian century China rocks

      • It's certainly my favourite Authoritarian, Communist state.

    • Same here ! Not from China.

  • Okay, so I just earned $1 for answering if I'm a parent in my house hold, and the answer was no. So it was the only questions. Thanks!

  • -1

I'm still accumulating my credits from this app to buy the Ozbargain app!
    I'm off by 70c haha

Also if you are rooted, then the app will freeze, to get around this use Root Cloak.

    • No freezing occurring on my rooted devices?

      • Did you install it before rooting your phone?
I noticed it only happens if you root it before installing it. Maybe they have fixed it now, because it used to happen around 1yr ago.

  • I've made $38 so far, get atleast one survey per day.

  • +1

Signed up early last year up until now still not a single survey to fill in. Don't see this as a deal at all

  • I've received $35 of credit so far (since April 2014) but have only received a single survey since Dec 2014…..appears to be hit or miss if you are selected.

    • Same with me. Got one last week but the last one before that was 29/11

  • I have also signed up… now I have something to do while on the toilet :). When I signed up I got asked some questions about income, location, age so they probably send very targeted questions to some specific people that they are interested it. I mean I would, why would I send to everybody the same questions? That would probably account for why some receive questions and why some people do not.

  • Not sure if this is a deal, probably should belong in the freebies or other forum sections. I've managed to score about $30 in the last 10 months or less. The most recent one last night gave me $1 which was nice. I've noticed that if you answer the survey almost immediately, they tend to send you out more surveys more often.

  • +2

    One survey started

'Are you a male between 20 and 34'
    then
    'Are you from China?'

maybe they're screening for new contestants for 'If you are the one'!!

    • I got this survey this morning as well

    • Just say yes and hopefully you get chosen by a pretty girl.

      Perhaps they need new blood
