Bargain! Still $1 on google play, only free on Amazon:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nynix.knotā€¦

    • You may need to pay the $1, as - in my experience - there's a "logjam" getting this app via Amazon AppStore. (Gets stuck "downloading app" & there's no obvious way to restart the process.)

PS How to Remove an app you got via AppStore?!?

      • I'm guessing that it might install via Play Store.

I've NOT paid the $1 to try to do tnat, ie, to overcome the "logjam" in AppStore's delivery flow…

        • I just installed it, first Amazon app for me. Took me about 10 minutes, as I had to install the "Amazon App Store" app, sign in, then install the knots app.

The knots app is huge, 44 megabytes. That might be the reason for the delay you are experiencing.

The app definitely doesn't install via Google play - I just installed it on a brand new $39 Pendo pad (on special at Coles), and I made sure NOT to associate it with a Google account, at least not yet.

  • Bought this a few weeks ago and very happy with their demos

  • Decent app. More than enough knots to get you by in life however in the 3 months I've had this app they haven't added any new knots.

While there are thousands of knots, not all of them are useful to know. For most people, three or four will get them by. If you're into bushmanship or climbing, maybe a dozen or two will be your total "collection". But it does help to have a "book" like this handy, to know of the uncommon knots, in those rare cases where you need them.

As for "new" knots, there have only been one or two "new" (previously undocumented) knots "found" in the last century. Many times someone has thought they have created a new knot, until a scholar uncovers an ancient description of the knot, many centuries old.

This app isn't the most useful for knot connesoir, because:
      - it doesn't show you what the knot looks like in its tightened state. For example, the double overhand knot looks quite different when pulled tight. If you knew what it looked like, you'd have more ideas of where to use it.
      - it doesn't show how to "trim" a knot. This is important for some knots, like the figure-8 bend.
      - it mostly doesn't tell you where such knots are used, e.g. a figure-8 knot is the basis of a packer's knot, very useful for wrapping Christmas gifts.
      - it won't work if you don't have a data connection - the app requires you to be logged in to Amazon.

      • I think by new he means new to the app

        • The app already has a lot of knots that 99% of people are unlikely to use. Adding more knots wouldn't really add to the "usefulness" of the book, but would add to the size of the app, which is already substantial at 44 megabytes. Larger app size will often reduce the number of customers who buy, so the author has apparently gone for the middle ground, presumably to maximise sales.

If I were the author, I'd go the other way, and split the book into multiple smaller books, and have a section at the back of each book with a link to the other books, along with a brief description of each. Perhaps start with an "everyday knots" book, with links to "fishing knots", "climbing knots", "everyday boating knots", "historic boating knots", and "decorative knots".

  • I did knot see this deal coming. Thanks! (sorry, couldn't help myself)

  • That's knot funny cruise control …..
