  • Thank you. Have been looking for an extra one of these for my NAS.

Not as good as the last OW deal which I price matched at JB and found it is a Red Drive inside.

Yeah but that was a bit of random luck. The majority were greens so not as good as the red for a NAS and you wouldn't want to take a punt that you may be that one in 100 to get a red.

and your comment is not as good as it would have been if they where still going for 90.30!

besides that once you open them it voids the warranty..

why sell REDs when you can only buy 1?!

(yeah its good for people who want to add disks or replace a single disk)

  • -2

People that use RED's need more than just 1 drive, so not really a good deal

    • Why can't you just use it by itself?

      • -1

why spend extra on a drive designed for NAS, when you can just buy something cheaper?

For reliability. I have 3 WD greens sitting on my desk that have failed out of warranty.

        • @Saiya: I posted somewhere on ozbargain a while back how I had no problems with the greens having used them for a couple of years in my server…I have had 3 fail in six months…so I take it back.

        • @bigpallooka: You cant use Greens in RAID as the Drive parking causes the RAID to think its failed

        • @asa79: I don't. I use them in JBOD. I only have software RAID in my HP Microservers and I don't consider it particularly safe. The data is either backed up to other drives or is replaceable.

        • @bigpallooka: I took that approch once, with 4 seagates and lost 18TB of data, never again

        • @asa79: I have a similar amount of data but with an Unlimited data plan and adsl the … err … 'data' is easily replaceable :D And besides.. I moved to Hitachi drives which have been good. I'll be replacing them with reds when I can. I take a lot more care with my audiobook/ebook collection :D

        • @bigpallooka: Data is replaceable but its hours of work to replace so depends on how much your time is worth. I wont be making that mistake, cloud storage is great for documents/photos/anything important

        • @asa79: True. I have the time to spend on replacement if I want to. It obviously isn't the method that suits everyone. This is about the drives however so to re-iterate my 2 cents worth "the greens aren't suitable for servers" and "WD Reds will be my next choice"

        • @bigpallooka: Yep REDS better for server and long warranty, 1 yr for Green and 3 yrs for RED

    • I just had an ancient WD green crap out of my Drobo, this is in fact a good deal for me.

  • Whats Futu Online like? For Warranty and returns? Notice it was pickup from Big W/Woolies… but surely it's not a Big W/Woolies front?

    • no. Its just a click and collect thing. Its not a specific thing for just this ebay retailer. If you want to know more?

      • +1

Ah gotcha - so any idea of the actual retailer then? What are they like for warranty and returns? I'm sure Woolies ain't gonna take my hard drive back for warranty if need be

  • +1

No way im touching a WD Green, 3 TB of data lost! and it was the most freshest HHD in my build! - BOO
Awesome that RED is so cheap!

    • wouldn't using raid 1 eliminate losing data due to its mirroring behaviour? hence even using cheaper drives means that you simply replace the drive that has failed unless of course both drives fail at the same time.

      • Not if you wern't using raid at all!… I have 6 Drives all mixed with different sizes. So at the time, it was my only storage device.
