  • will pick one up tomorrow, thanks!

will go great with my new bravia and ps3 :)

  • Thanks, will go and buy one or two tomorrow.

  • ordered mine :D

  • well, seems ht need to confirm the order. So fingers crossed there weren't a heap of orders before mine waiting to be processed this morn…

  • Ordered one for pickup at North Ryde. Contemplating driving over and seeing if on shelf and just grabbing one. Missed out on the $199 z5500 speakers after ordering online last time (however got a phone call down the track saying we have a set if you want them as people had cancelled orders)

    • really how long ago was this?

  • Thanks just ordered one :)

  • The availability showing on the site hasn't changed since the initial post. Obviously they are not live numbers. I've just ordered one for pickup in VIC but I don't have too much faith that I will actually get one considering theres been over 500 clicks to the link.

  • Haha, i cant even see a pick up choice on web. . Need me to pay 10 extra shipping . . Going there to get 1 today

  • My advice would be just go to a store as the orders get picked from the shelf sometime after order is placed

    • that is true…great system! i ordered mine at 2am today, read that people picked theirs up at 9am and received my email saying they were out of stock at 11am

  • +1

i just picked up mine at hawthorn and the qty has gone down 1, they don't usually process those orders on a Sunday I think, unless you go in. Ring up and check availability and get one set aside then go pickup :)

  • All gone at Hawthorn, and unlikely that all online orders will get filled either just got out of the store then.

  • all gone at Brisbane store :(

  • also even though it shows up as stock at Hawthorn the staff said that they are allocated for online and phone orders so unlikely you'll get one.

    • Yep, all allocated from Hawthorn store. They can bring it in from another store @ a cost of $20-25.

      • +1

yeah apparantley that's not guaranteed though, I'll be expecting a lot of unfulfilled orders.

    • My order says "Order being processed". Hopefully my order is one of those included in the allocation for online orders.

  • I ordered 1 and their stock has not updated .

  • it looks like pick up only so only good if your in those areas

  • I had it in my cart, and it mysteriously disappeared because there is none left at the 'distribution centre'.
Nice deal to all that got it though, at least I loved it how I had an idea of how much stock they had left, the actual price they were offering at and the server didn't crash, as experienced on many sites when something cheap comes up.

  • Cost of 25? Where u get those info?

  • Hawthorn sold their last one at 9:50… to the guy ahead of me, so I missed out. D'oh - I made the mistake of taking a kid with me, and so got held up 30 minutes.

  • I ordered online at 9.15am for a Hawthorn pickup. But I have yet to get a call or email though.

  • 4 left in wa apparently i could only get one doh best of to call and confirm with the reps

  • if you havent got a confirmation I imagine its unlikely you'll get one. Happy to be proven wrong though

    • even with a confirmation the only guarantee is having it in your hand ;)

  • "Product Not Found

The product you are trying to view is no longer available."

    :(

  • Sold out check the link glad i got one woohoo

  • Damn, missed it :( no more stock I guess …

  • How about getting it price matched at DSE or someplace? :-p Print the page whilst its still got the stock quantities on it!!!

  • i think someone is already selling on ebay…

  • So was it 1 per customer or not? Shame on HT for letting people buy 100 to flog on ebay.

    • one person buying all 35 of the original stock would have alot of driving to do

  • All sold out in Brisbane today. They had 6 today, one guy bought 5 by 9.30am, the last one went just as quickly.

    • either ebaying or putting some forethought into xmas pressies

    • That's f* bulls*… here I am ordering one straight away last night, and I'm one of the first to see this ozbargain post… and recieve an email saying no stock

I hope that guy has difficulty selling it all… I only wanted one to use with my new bravia

      • Pretty annoying huh. But also consider a Logitech Harmony 525. It works just as good, minus the colour LCD and rechargeable battery built in. Normally sells for around $75. It'll definitely change ur life.

  • According to the sales staff at HT, they had recieved ~400 online orders before 5pm yesterday, so anyone who ordered last night after seeing this post and hasn't got a confirmation email missed out.

  • no 1 gonna complain this deal

    • -1

      Why?
They ran out of stork, its a pretty normal thing to happen..

      • +1

Because it shows how incompetent HT are? if this happened somewhere in US or UK it would be different scenario. Their system should reflect the stock level immediately (live). I have order one on the same day (morning) and the system showed that they have 2 in stock; this afternoon i got an email from them saying that this product is discounted and the order is cancelled.

If HT cannot compete on-line, then they better shut down their site !!

        • I have order one on the same day (morning) and the system showed that they have 2 in stock; this afternoon i got an email from them saying that this product is discounted and the order is cancelled.

And what if the last two were in the hands of customers walking around the store?

They are still listed as being in stock as they have not been sold…

          • @anthony: Well you have a point !

Does this situation happen for on-line sale ?!!! i dought , their problem is as advised by one of their sale rep. "The inventory system is not linked to the physical stock in our warehouse, as this may cause issues for branch point of sale"

In the inventory management , when your stock level below the reorder level , you should consider taking off the items from the branch where you push these items to on-line sale which HT did. However , their inventory system is not linked to physical stock ….. what a sysyem they have !!!! any decent ERP system will do the JOB mate !

            Cheers,

            • @m2002:

“The inventory system is not linked to the physical stock in our warehouse, as this may cause issues for branch point of sale”

              I can see that happening.

Using the same as i said before, someone in the store might be holding a remote ready to buy it.

If they have the last one what happens when someone places an online order for the same last one?
The online order would remove the last unit from the point of sale system so when the customer presents the remote at the checkout the point of sale system will not like selling the remote when there is zero stock.

Does the clerk say that they cannot have the remote because someone already ordered it online?
I dont think the customer will like that..

  • Why would you complain about the deal? The deal is good. They had stock, you just had to be quick and go to a store to get it. HT even tell you how much stock they have (though it isn't necessarily live).

But the deal was a good deal. Why do people try to give a deal a bad mark becsause they didn't get one or the supplier has limited stock???

  • +1

This deal should surely be marked 'sold out' now. There's more posts than they had stock at the start of the deal, and plenty of people got more than one.

  • Thanks for the post bctransit I went into HT Canberra this morning when they opened and bought 2 (going to use both), another Ozbargain member bought one at the exact same tile as well, @ 10:05 there was one on the wall still. thanks again.

    • I ordered online thinking I'd get one locked away. By the time I got to Fyshwick they were gone (and now I know why ;)

  • Ordered online yesterday for delivery to SA and got a call just now telling me they had no stock left :(

    • Same here :( I was going to pick it up from North Ryde.

  • NOT HAPPY JAN….are they allowed to sell them on their website, sending an order confirmation via email…then email the customer to say "sorry, none left"?

Sounds like false advertising to me.

  • Everyone who was able to successfully process an order via the HT website, yet will not be receiving their remote should be putting a minus vote on this deal. It's unacceptable that in 2009 a large organisation like Harris Tech should allow customers to process orders for items that are unavailable, especially when they are unable to order any more.

It's commercially quite stupid, now some poor nuffie at HT has to email god knows how many customers saying "sorry, can't fill your order". It wastes their time, and more importantly, it wastes their customer's time. I personally won't be using HT for any future purchases. And i'll be emailing Consumer Affairs to suggest they take a look at HT's trade practices. CAV are very familiar with companies deliberately advertising a specific product at a large discount, with no intention to fill the orders, just to drive customers onto their website or into their store. It's a poor practice, and HT should be held accountable for doing it.

    • You do realize it was on clearance? They wanted to get rid of their old stock. How else would they do it if quietly putting it on their website is 'poor practice'? Can you suggest a better way?

  • HT need to implement a real time invetory system, that way even if an item is on clearance as soon as the stock has been sold then it will not allow any further orders.

This is the 3rd time, I have tried to purchase something on HT only to find out that their is no stock, after I have wasted my time in putting thru an order.

One would think a company that sells IT equipment, would get their act together and utilise technology.

  • Wouldn't be so bad if they emailed people quickly to let them know that their order didn't go through .
I rang this morning and was disconnected midsentence before I was told I wouldn't be getting it . Rang back and it would of been nice to of at least get an apology , but nothing from their couldn't give a stuff staff . I never expected to get it but a simple sorry would of been nice .

  • To be honest I have found their staff to be quite rude when it comes to clearance product or even sales for that matter. I appreciate they may get some angry customers as they cant fulfil the order, but its about time their management gets their act together.

  • eug, are you serious? Clearance or not, how do catchoftheday, zazz, amazon, etc etc etc do it? You use an ordering sytem that understands stock levels. If I have 10 units, and 10 people put in orders for them, nobody else can order that unit.

It's not rocket science, is it?

Making new customers go through the registration process so they are able to place an order for item that's not even in stock is poor practice.

    • juzdownunder - this was the point I was commenting on:

CAV are very familiar with companies deliberately advertising a specific product at a large discount, >with no intention to fill the orders, just to drive customers onto their website or into their store. >It’s a poor practice, and HT should be held accountable for doing it."

Did HT deliberately advertise the logitech remote at a large discount with no intention to fill the orders, just to drive customers to their website or store? Did they?

  • +1

You tell me then, why would they put items for sale on their website, with NO control over stopping that sale when stock is exhausted?

You asked if I could suggest a better way. Yes, of course, there's numerous options, such as:
    1) Don't allow people to order the clearance item via the web…instead say "in store only, first in, first served…limit 1 per customer".
    2) Have a live stock-control system that takes the item off-sale when stock is depleted. AND you could still do the "limit 1 per customer", just like catchoftheday, zazz, etc.

Allowing customers to place orders that cannot be filled is STUPID. The fact that HT do it leads me to assume they're using the practice to get customers onto their site, or into their shop, using an age-old marketing scam.

    • Perhaps it's because they have many locations where stock is kept, and running a live system isn't as easy as you would think, with concurrency, latency, and stock control issues? It's possible, but it costs money. But things like this only happen to absolute bargains - which they lose money on.

So - you're expecting them to spend large amounts of money to create and maintain a fully live stock system just to sell products way below cost? Remember - complaints like yours only surface during hot money-losing sales like this remote, not to their regular boring stuff.

Limit 1 per customer? You need to remember that:

      • HT is primarily a regular brick-and-mortar store, not an online clearance centre

      • 1-per-customer limits will just result in customers finding ways around it, like registering multiple accounts. It just messes things up.

      • HT wants to quickly clear things out.

      • HT's clearance sales are for a large variety of items, not just hot items like the logitech remote. A blanket 'clearance' policy saves time and money (no need waste time researching the "sellability" of a product) and makes sure the products get cleared quickly. Having 1-per-customer limits on things like palm cases would be counter-intuitive.

As I mentioned above, a live stock control system is easier when you're a smaller place like zazz and cotd. But when you have multiple locations nationwide with retail stores as well as distribution centres, things get more difficult. How many times have you asked a sales guy in a shop for a product, they check it on the computer and say "we should have 2 in stock, but let me just look for it at the back because sometimes it isn't actually there"? Things get stolen, pilfered, or damaged.

Also, are you seriously comparing COTD to HT? Where were you when COTD had their birthday sale last year?
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7373

If you really think HT are doing it to lure people in to their site, don't visit them ever again. They're not losing any money - you'd only buy massively discounted things off them anyway.

I wonder if you've ever been to a regular sale in a regular shop. First-come-first-serve. you snooze, you lose! If I went to HT on sunday morning when they opened at 9am, I could have bought 6.

  • On the weekends, it is best to go to the stores early to snatch the clearance / discounted items, especially if they are only available in stores (not available in the distribution centre). That is because the online order processing centre is closed on the weekends so the orders will stay in waiting to be processed status until Monday morning. The staff in the stores cannot process those online orders (so people who come to the store can buy the items even though you placed the orders online earlier). For example, at 10AM Saturday, the Hawthorn store (VIC) had none left.

On the weekdays, placing orders online make sense, but you still need to be quick. You need to factor in that it will take some time for a online order processing staff to confirm the order for you. During that time, if someone happened to walk into the store, he/she can still purchase the item.

However, HT Online purchase system can really use some improvement. It allows too many false positive orders to go through. Most of my HT orders got cancelled because there were lots of people who placed orders before me.

    • Have to agree with 99% of that, considering these are short time/clearance bargains if you place an order online on the weekend and dont bother actually following it up with the store then you will miss out.

I know this from experience it has been very frustating, as i expected certain things.

Know, knowing the system ie call to place an order make sure they pull it off the floor for you then i am almost guranteed to get what i buy.

Am wondering what to do with this damm remote now, might give it away promoting my new site hmmm (not promoting anything yet)

Also if you have a problem with a certain staff member then there is the online survery

  • I won't be buying anything from them, you're right there. If they won't take the time to implement an ordering system that doesn't leave dozens of customers disappointed and regretting having wasted their time, then why should I shop there?

Well done on avoiding any response to alternative 1 by the way. Typical response, avoid the logical suggestions because you can't dispute them!

I'm done on this thread. HT have wasted enough of my time already.

    • if you actually read or understood my reply, you'd notice that I replied to alternative 1.

At least now there'll be one less person to compete against for the next HT bargain. :)

  • yes, have to call to reserve one. for me at least 1-2 hours trip to HT, i just call them up and reserved one, when i went there around 1130am, i got it…

they told me that all these stocks gone by 10am except mine…
