This is a bargain, because being a supporter of Melbourne, I can attest that being a Melbourne supporter and having free entry to their games is one of the cheapest ways to run the full gamut of human emotions. You too will laugh, cry and tear your hair out in sheer frustration, before deciding it's all too hard and heading to the bar at half time, never to emerge (if you spend the savings on beer, this may erode the bargain)…

      Free torture is a bargain?

  • Actually, if you think of the vast sums that the AFL has poured into supporting both the Gold Coast and Melbourne and then consider that they are having to give away free tickets to get fans along to the game I wonder if it is really a bargain for the competition.

I live in Melbourne's Sth East and the Melbourne Footy Club has obviously been given this area as one of their marketing zones. My kids play footy for local teams and Melbourne tickets are occasionally given out as well as Melbourne players coming to training etc. All credit to them for the effort but I often wonder about effectiveness as they are presumably doing this to foster some new supporters from among the ranks of the next generation yet I never see too many Melbourne Guernseys when i pick the boys up from training. Most kids probably (rightly) follow whatever team their dad indoctrinates and forces them to follow!

    • Really? Predominately Saints area down this way. Live in Sth East as well.

Can I ask who you support? (not a Dees or Saints fan by the way)

      • We are all Carlton members in my household. Mother in Law tried to poison the kids across to Collingwood when they were toddlers but I soon put a stop to that with threats and bribery!! I live in Berwick and my kids have played for Berwick and Beaconsfield junior footy clubs. The 'Casy Scorpions' are Melbourne's VFL team and the local VFL team down this way with their home ground over at Casey Fields. The only time I've taken any interest is when Fevola played there for a season after being sacked by Brisbane.

    • Was Melbourne's old recruiting zone (well large parts of it anyway).

Marketing can only get you so far. Why would kids choose to barrack for a team that loses almost every single week?

      • new supporters are all forced by their parents, no one willing chooses to go for Melbourne these days.

  • How much the tickets usually costs ?

Don't think we are looking at a sell out here

    • It is Easter long weekend, probably will not be sold out ?

      • Not for these 2 teams. Tonight's game between Carlton and Richmond will come close since they are traditional rivals and every year the Richmond ferals get taken in by the pre-season hype and think they are going to blitz the competition, only to be found out when the real stuff starts. A couple of years ago this 1st game of the season clash sold out the MCG with 98000 attending. Carlton is also a traditional team and the old enemies of Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon always draw big crowds.

Monday's game between Hawthorn and Geelong will probably be the highest profile game from an importance perspective and probably draw a big crowd but no chance of filling anything near capacity for Melbourne and 'Old Toast'!!! Melbourne might have a few supporters there since the snow season hasn't started yet but I dont think Gold Coast has any fans at all. They have some members that I suspect are ex victorians who retired to live on the Gold Coast and who I wonder if they revert back to their victorian teams for important games. No doubt they will have a cheer squad and a few die-hards but not 50,000 of them!!

      Its a 100,000 seat stadium

Only the grand final and possibly Anzac Day are ever sold out. This game will struggle to get more than 25,000

  • No tickets left?

    • Can use CNY15, it was working before but not sure now

  • Hi all,

I still have 2 x FREE Ticket available for

Western Bulldogs v West Coast Eagles
    Etihad Stadium
    SAT 04 APR 2015 7:20PM

PM me if you are interested. First come first serve. Thanks.

  • I got a ticket to the Melb vs Gold Coast game. I support North, so I won't be going to Adelaide this weekend. Going to a game without my team playing will be interesting though. Won't be on the edge of my seat, biting my nails at this one! Hope to see a Howe mark or a spectacular Abblett run through midfield and then kicking a goal!
