Wait for discount coupons later this week. They actually work for SIM packs (Telstra at least).

  • Z240's, while they've been cheaper in the past, still great value. Decent speakers for the price.

  • To those of you who buy these sim starter packs, what do you do once the month expires?

    • +2

A lot of people buy the telstra sims to use as Google Play credit to buy apps/music/books etc.

transfer number to different carrier ….

    • +2

Many use the +intercarrier +Googley deals with Tel., more permanently however has come down to value assessment. Used whistleout…

      Oh, and sweet deals
whomsoever lineup the trifecta + recharge:

      Woolworths Instore -$. .90 'active
      Vodafone Coolies%offs .85 'Mar.15♢seasonal offer
      Groupon/WoolworthsCr .81 'Mar.15♢stored
      =<38% (more often ~25%)

IME finding 'stock' with a certain carrier had proven hard.
Against a $750 recharge & a few dollars more, it is good-bye to old SIM card.

Buy the cheapest non-telstra sim possible (currently vodaphone $1 online), port number to it then immediately port back to another telstra sim.

      • Thanks, is the process of porting out then back in easy?

        • +2

Procedure depends on provider but it's just like getting a new SIM other than you specify you want to keep your existing number. You can do it online or via phone. Doing it by phone is a very bad idea with anyone other than Telstra due to the whole process being made as painful as possible to "encourage" you to do it online ;)

  • Just in time..I'm down to 1 $30 vodafone sim @ $10 and 1 Telstra $30 sim at $15..

Vodafone are going through the 0404 numbers at the moment. I got one with my most recent recharge. Must be old numbers that was discontinued by their customers.

I generally cancel the number once the 30 days are up. Since I got a dual sim Moto G. I keep my old number in to get calls. I use the new sim for internet and making outbound calls.. Just cant access my voice-mail.

I woudnt mind a triple sim phone though. Or just get my Telstra Tempo unlocked for $3 bucks.

Also have to put up with "Who is this" SMS reply, if i forget to tell people about my new number lol.

    • Do you use any services with 2FA or phone verification such as Facecrack or Google accounts? If so how do you handle that?

      • oh they have already been verified a long time ago, and generally the process is simply getting the SMS and typing it online. I receive SMS fine just cant send them using my sim with no credit left.

And if i do get desperate i could always recharge the smallest amount or switch over to a new provider. Even if you activate halfway though your current Sim you would loose $5-7 at the most.

  • Or just get my Telstra Tempo unlocked for $3 bucks.

Mind share the link to unlock?

    • Oops sorry it cost more than that the guy who got it unlocked posted in a thread with a few device in the $3 ballpark. However the Tempo seems to cost more. ~$11

  • LOGITECH Z240 SPEAKERS can be Line in or Bluetooth?

    • If you somehow managed to rig up a bluetooth receiver with a 3.5mm output on it…

But generally they are for a computer/TV out only.

Excuse my ignorance… Can the Telstra $30 pack or $15 be used for data in a 3G portable wifi modem? If so, how much data do you get with it?

    • +1

Yes but it's usually much better value to get Telstra or another provider data only SIM. Data with a 30 voice sim is 1GB.

      • Thankyou sir

        • +1

You should get 2GB data if you activate it as a mobile broadband sim

          @Punkboy:

          According to this site

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/30-…

          A prepaid starter $30 gets 800mb + 500mb bonus
          and call credit

        • +1

          @imcold:
That is correct if you activate it on freedom plan which also had voice. If you activate as data only i.e. Mobile broadband you get 2gb.

Cvas asked if the starter SIM could be used in a 3g Wi-Fi modem and the best way to do this is to activate the starter pack as a mobile broad band plan and get 2 gb.

  • Just wanted to ask, can I buy two of the telstra sims, use it for a month each time and get the associated 3gb which comes with it, so total 6gb for 2 months, $30? This is cheaper than buying one sim, then recharging it.

Will telstra allow me to register two sims using the same address on my driving license?

    • +2

Yes, just sign up for Telstra My Account, then you just have to login after verifying the SIM details. It's very easy.

You can have as many phone numbers as you like under the same account.

    • You will only get 2GB data per SIM, not 3GB

  • Are these starter packs $15 in store?
Trying to order online and click and collect doesn't seem to be an option

    • Yeah in store & online

  • Does anyone know - if I buy a $30 telstra sim, does that give me $30 of credit which I could put on the Long Life plan?

    • Yea it would.
Holds google play credit particularly well if not a few hours voice usage. :)

      • Thanks heaps.

        • +1

Depends on what you mean. If you want to put it on an existing Long Life plan that you have, you will need to use CreditMe2U and do 3 transfers of $10, $10 and $9 as Telstra only allow a maximum transfer of $10 per day with a 25c transfer cost.

If you are talking about activating the starter pack it as a new Long Life service then the $30 credit will be on that SIM.

  • AFAIK they raised 3Gig-only to 4GB 50. So newly activated at DSE 's rate here get 2 gb /~0.8gb in phones. This might be unbelievable if not for Telstra.

Would be interesting to test another process, in reverse: porting T<->Ozstock/Voda flatrate_+3gb +unlimited weekend "$19.50 Offer". Shatters Voda's DickS deal.

  • If I get a telstra start pack if I activate it to a data plan (if possible) how many gigs will I get?

    Thanks.

    • +1

      2GB

    • +1

You can also spend the $30 on Google Play store if the item is $20 or less.

  • thanks. will buy one.

  • Can anybody help. Just set one up to use on long life prepaid for Google Play Store but everytime I attempt to make a purchase it comes back as "user not found" on the Telstra A/c. Can the Telstra a/c for google Play be used on a rooted Device? Anyone please

    • No problem took o/night to start working and on rooted phone
