If you travel frequently you will begin to notice differences in luggage that over time make a huge impact. e.g. The cheap ones usually weigh more (comparative to size) than the more expensive ones (because the cheapies use cheap heavy material whilst the expensive ones use carbonate that weighs nothing), the more expensive ones have four wheels that swivel comfortably with an ergonomic extended handle that goes up and down easily (cheap ones wheels dont rotate properly, handle gets stuck etc), warranty is usually much longer, TSA locks.

4 wheels are PITA. The original 'cheap' ones were all 4 wheels for some reason. I know a lot of truly frequent travellers who hate spinner luggage as much as I do :(

        • Maybe a good 4 wheeler tend to run away on a hill as the wheels themselves are so smooth. I find 4 wheelers are useful if you have heaps of heavy luggage. For small pieces, its so much easier to just drag them on 2 wheels.

    • I agree with you there. There are plenty that are cheaper and lighter than these and have great guarantees to prove the quality.

Don't just make general statement. Put an example in at least

    • Antler are kind of mid-range. Check out brands like Samsonite or Rimowa.. they're usually way more expensive.

    • I just retired my old Antler suitcase. It has done no less than 15 trips around the world, and been on probably 100-150 flights in total. It cost me around $250 when I purchased it years ago.

I bought a cheap suit case in the USA last year to ferry some stuff back for work, and it took 65lbs of equipment for me. By the time I picked it up on the carousel at Melbourne airport, it was only good for the bin.

With luggage, you get what you pay for around 95% of the time. The problem I have now is they're all the four wheel 'spinner' types with cases that only open in the middle. I can't stand them :(

  • Antler or Samsonite?

      could consider rimowa too

      • Who doesn't get rimowa, the Ferrari of all luggages.

I got Costco. Made by Samsonite at a fraction of the price.
