  • Would it fit RF keys?

    • Hi, the Keyn is designed for keys with length under 73mm and a hole of 5mm dia.
If the RF key is larger or very thick in general, it may not fit - sorry about that.

  • +1

please put $18 in title… not "$4 off"

    • +2

      Done!

  • -4

useless, wont hold my rolls royce key or my house key

  • +2

So, thats $18 for a 15g piece of plastic, am I right?

    • Hi - It's glass fibre-reinforced polymer which is much tougher than typical plastic or Nylon that you see in toys and household goods. The weight includes brass interscrews (which won't come loose) and 5 rubber spacers in case you have fewer keys.

      • Agreed with Zirkaloy.

Nylon is a plastic or polymer, and pretty tough at that.
Nice idea but seems overpriced to me, and the execution isn't elegant enough to demand such a premium price.
And as noted below, the screw head will scratch your phone.

  • +1

Rep - how is this different to Key Smart?

    • Hi, thanks for your question!
Unlike metal key holders, the Keyn is made of a tough polymer. Also, it's designed for Australian keys, allows one-handed use (by pushing out the key 'head' instead of pulling by the 'stem'), is lighter - and rather importantly - won't scratch a smartphone screen. Finally, it's designed as a minimalist organizer to hold up to 5 keys.

      • +7

won't scratch a smartphone screen? How about the metal screw holding the keys, and the keys themselves??

  • +1

It'd be nicer with a option for keyring attachment like key smart. Key smart is way too expensive.

    • Thanks for the feedback - we'll try to include that in our next version.

      • +1

Look at any semi-modern car key and they wont fit, so having atleast an option to have a keyring with it would rock, because most people have car keys that would need this, and most car keys include the remote which is thick.

        • +1

You're absolutely right! Since there are several key holders out there which accept car keys, ours is made for the runner/hiker/minimalist who either temporarily doesn't carry car keys or chooses to carry them separately.

For a key holder with keyring attachment, I'd recommend another cool Aussie product called the OrbitKey, or the American KeySmart.

    • Here's a tip - order KeySmart direct from the US site. There's a 15% coupon on there and free international shipping for orders of $45 or more. Makes it a bit more reasonable (though still quite expensive). They look much nicer than the one here though.

  • +2

Bit pricey for my taste. Good luck though.

  • +8

hehe. kinda looks like the one that I printed out on my 3D printer, except I used a glow in the dark filament abs and it is suited to take bigger & more keys.

    • +5

      :o
shut up and take my money!
      :D

    • +3

Anyone with a 3D printer could print one to suit specific keys. Like you said, more material options too, glow in the dark, carbon fibre reinforced filament, you name it. Costing only a few $ instead of $18. If it breaks, print another one!

    • +2

can you print one for me

i can pay for the cost and postage

    • +1

3d printers are perfect for this kind of thing. I might print one too, except with countersunk screws….

  • +8

$18 for a tiny piece of plastic, what a rip off

  • Interesting.. I almost ordered one, then I realised, what do I do with my car keys that are on the same keyring?

    • And that's assuming the Commodore or Falcon keys with their bulky electronics area would fit, which I don't think they will.

      • Same with basically any key for any car under 10 years old, and far more older then that too.

  • +1

Come on. If you don't want it, then just pass on it.

I think if you had to make it (assuming you had the idea in the first place), you had to source the material and get it made - and I presume that it's made in Australia, not some country to the north and north-east of us, where worker's pay is one-tenth or one-hundredth of what Australians get paid and where working conditions are not as good as we have here - then $18 is NOT a rip-off. Sheesh!

  • what about my key fob? Now am i supposed to carry 2 sets?

    • I do. But that's just because most of the time I don't need my car keys, so leave them.
      Still not buying one though.

  • so its kind of a plastic("tough polymer") version of ones like this:??
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Practical-Flexible-Key-Holder…

    • it would be a simpler version, but alas, those ebay ones are awful looking.

    • +3

If you are easily offended, don't look at what other people viewed in the above link!

      • Although it's beautiful compared to another item they sell: http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/300948455482

      • Mens Flesh like toy aid self release

hahahahaha. that looks like it would make a good coin purse!

    • +1

Here's the carbon fiber version, again, a lot better looking, half the price.

I mean I like the idea of an Australian company designing new and innovative products. But this concept isn't new and its not solving a problem that doesn't already have a solution. It's hard to see much of a market at the $18 price point.

edit: Now, this looks quite an interesting key solution-

  • +1

looks like its made from a 3d printer

  • +2

I am guessing part of the pricing problem here is Australia Post, so this would be sent as a parcel ($8+) because it exceeds the 5mm thickness. Whereas sellers in HK or China do not face such prohibitive postal services and charges.

  • These one seem ok, and fine price wise, I got myself a smartkey a year ago, very happy with it despite the cost,
there's also bladekey that I got for my GF yesterday, and many more options as of now …

  • I've used this sort of setup (minus the plastic) for about 5 years.
get a locking nut and bolt, a couple of bucks, and you can have as many keys as you want..

    • A nyloc nut and a bolt hey? I use a removable cable tie - it works a treat plus you have tool-free adding/removing of keys.

  • Hummm… what should I do with my car key then. The fat guy shares the ring with my other keys.

  • Way way over priced to be on OzBargain. Can get a better looking one on eBay and also at half the price with free shipping.

  • Sorry, have gotten a better looking one for similar price

    http://www.orbitkey.com/

*Edit… was kickstarter backer and had for $19 AUD to support AUS design projects, price is too much now =/

    • ah really? i would have bought an orbitkey for $19! looks much better, in my opinion!

    • +1

Same here, bought the orbitkey for $19 back in kickstarter days.

The price now is…. a bit too much
