A "Compliments" Opportunity

So, like most OZB's im pretty quick to fire off an email of complaint (or at least post a whine) when ive been hard done by in the murky world of online purchasing.

Time for a change. I purchased an inflatable spa on ebay, it arrived on time, it worked well, it was as described and i was happy. However, after a few weeks the engine burnt out and filled the house with smoke and an unpleasant electrical burning odour.

At this moment the usual, "oh geebus, i bought it online". Immediately my brain went into …"no bricks and mortar everything is dodgy online" mode.

I contacted the seller and lo a miracle occurred, immediate profuse apology and an offer to ship a replacement to me and to collect the faulty one at no cost!

Problem solved in a week. customer service perfection! Well done Leisure King, thanks.

I thought it might eb good to have a topic for compliments? Join in?

I like independent sellers from eBay and Etsy who put in the time and effort to make transactions better.

It is nice to receive a parcel from overseas clearly carefully wrapped in bubble wrap and a cute sticker on the seal, or a lolly and a hand-written note of thanks in the box. I had one seller wrap some pants in garbage bag and tape to squish it as small as possible into a packing box, in order to get a lower shipping option at the Post Office. He refunded the extra money I'd paid for shipping instead of pocketing it.

    Yay!

Thanks for this, it's amazingly great to see good service noted and the word spread.

Too many people whinge and complain when they get the short end of the stick, but couldn't care less when others go out of their way to help them. Such is the dog-eat-dog world of retail. People are loudest when they have an axe to grind.

  • awesome, literally cool story bro

  • Thanks for sharing this.

I like how Woolworths refund items which are not as expected when using home delivery. You get to keep the old ones and they often give an extra credit for inconvenience.

Happened a few weeks ago when Lynx Anti-Perspirant was on offer for 2.99, I ordered 9 but they sent 9 deodorants instead. They refunded it them back and gave $15 credit.

    Now that's good customer service.

  • A few that I reckon deserve a 'special mention' because they honoured deals posted (not by them) here on OzB, when I was pretty sure they wouldn't, are:

Clearly Contacts: Great quality sunnies and a 'glasses kit', of impressive quality, delivered in about 3 days from Canada, via FedEx-express; for free! Awesome.

Woolies: Honoured the 'epic' deal on 24-can-boxes of Coke recently, en masse; I was amazed they had enough stock to honour almost everyone's orders (or were able to source it, re the forward-dated delivery orders). Impressive stuff!

COLES: Repeatedly/without fuss honoured the 'Crazy Cadbury' voucher that facilitated the acquisition of a theoretically unlimited amount of normal-size bars, for the various weeks throughout the ICC competition that they reduced them to 'half-price' (which became, erm, free).

Aussie Farmers: In a deal that seemed to go largely unoticed here on OzB (I suspect because 'Hello Fresh' had left such a 'Goodbye/ rotten' taste in OzBer's mouths shortly prior), they delivered a box of meat to my door that was worth every bit of the $21 it would have cost me, without the coupon-code I used to order it; which was for $20 off (free delivery). Quality stuff.

Staples: Due to some sort of 'epic fail' in the online pricing department, the decimal point was shifted at least one place to the left on a large number of products… Predictably, OzB was instantly 'all over it like a rash', and the orders (and much hilarity) ensued. While most people's orders actually didn't get honoured (mine included), no doubt due to practical limitations/considerations, I reckon Staples is still to be commended for honouring the orders they did. As indicated by the comments in the relevant deal-thread, a substantial number of peeps got numerous pairs of otherwise expensive shoes, etc., delivered for just about nix… So despite the epic nature of the F-up forcing them to cancel the majority of the resulting orders, Staples retained my respect because they actually did deliver on a substantial number of them (even though legally they actually didn't have to), and there weren't dramas involving money paid/not refunded for cancelled orders.

OzBargain aside, for me personally the mob that I've been most consistently impressed with over the years is a pretty boring one; K-mart! I love how they sometimes mark things down to "5 cents" (so essentially it's free) just to clear the stock, they generally have a reasonable number of staff on the floor, their everyday prices tend to be about the cheapest around for standard goods, their range is usually good, they keep the stores clean/ light/ spacious to wander around (or push a pram) in, and I've never waited more than about 3 minutes in a line at the check-out there. But the best thing of all is their 'no questions asked, no receipt required, change-of-mind is OK' returns policy. I've used this many times over the years, and have often been amazed at the degree to which they've allowed me to.

    • Staples?!?!?

One truly horrible company, I have a list of horror stories as long as my arm and I'm 6'6"

      • Chuckling at:

        "…and I'm 6'6"

Mmmyeah, maybe I shouldn't have included them in the list based on an event that after all, only came about due to a monumental screw-up on their part. I was genuinely surprised though when peeps started reporting that the three pairs of steel-capped work-boots they'd ordered for about $1 (etc.) had just been delivered.
