Like seasons of the year, 15% off, 7.5% off, 15% off, 7.5%…..

    • so its better to wait till 15% off ?

      • +10

No, when they have 15% off, they don't have the Big W/Woolies deal
What you can do is buy Groupon's gift card when they have the 15% off, and use those to buy this.

        • +2

During the last few 15% discount promos Groupon gift cards were also marked 'sold out'. I think they have woken up to this one…

      • They do 15% off Groupon cards which you can use to buy 7.5% off WOW

        • How do you use the groupon coupons to purchase this?

        • @99altezza: first you buy a Groupon gift card, hopefully when the 15% off sale is on. Then after it is delivered you use the card(s) to buy Woolworths cards. The Groupon card has a code on it that you use.

        • @clarky: I purchased the Groupon gift card already, but when I apply the code it doesn't work. I only purchased the Groupon gift card a few days ago when they had the 15% discount. They have given me the coupons already but when I apply the code to purchase these gift cards, it doesn't work, any idea why?

Do I have to wait longer?

        • @99altezza: there is a single line of code on the bottom of the physical card you need to use, not any codes that they say in the receipt email. Ie You can't use the Groupon and or security code that is in email, sometimes bottom left, under the address

        • @clarky: what about the code thats on the actualy groupon gift card when I go to "My Groupon" I can see the the gift card and the the voucher code. I can download the pdf too, but none of the codes on the pdf wok. eg Security Code & Voucher Code.

Is this what you use, or do they actually send the voucher to me later on?

        • @99altezza: Ignore.

        • @argonbay: no I haven't even purchased the woolies giftcard yet as I don't know how to use my groupon giftcard. what code should I put in that box to deduct the charge amount?

        • @99altezza: Ignore my previous comment.

  • +4

Don't buy groupon gift card. Delivery takes more than 3 months or you may receive nothing. Remember always use paypal on groupon or you will loose money

    • +2

I always receive mine in 3 days.

      • +1

        3-4 days here

        • Mine come through in about 4 working days clockwork

        • @clarky: plastic Groupon gift cards? They usually take 3-4 weeks delivery to me.

        • @spacecowboy:

I bought mine in March, I emailed to them about its delivery status and got reply apologizing for the delay a week ago. I log in again and it says coupon USED!!!! I have never receive anything and now they mark it as coupon used. I would stay away from these groupon gift cards.

        • @skylinebmwm5:

I know it happened to me too

I called and they were like it's used and I started an email thread and the guy said it's valid. We copied and pasted the code from what he typed and it worked but when I input my code in, it says the card had been used.

Delivery was ridiculous. Took under 3 weeks.

The expiry was not clear either - 30/4 on the site but 6m from purchase date on the card. Groupon said its still 30/4 which is absurd.

          Hope you resolved your issue

        • @clarky:
My clock only has 12hrs ;(

    • It varies. My first order in Jan, only a few days. Then this BigW 7.5% came back in March. After ordering 9 (they counted my first one in Jan). My account was locked and only last few days, I received the BigW egiftcards. Not a smooth process. Wrote to get my account unlocked, then after 4 business days, another email about not receiving the giftcards. At least they responded to my email within reasonable time. Due to the delay, I missed out using them to buy Myers or JB Hi Fi gift card when they had some APPLE products on specials.

  • Guys, sorry, this must be a very stupid question… how do i use big W egiftcards i bought from group on in woolworths/dan's murphy /caltex?

do i just go to big w, use my egift card to purchase wish gift card? and i can use the new wish gift cards to do any transaction on those participating retailers?

Please kindly advise, and do apologise if this is a stupid question.

    • +2

You can just use the Big W egift card at any of the stores without any sort of conversion

      • +2

Not really any of these stores. Make sure you check if it's Woolworths Caltex or Caltex Woolworths and check if the one you are going to can accept egift cards (being different to the normal plastic gift cards).

        • +3

Easy way to tell at the Caltex if they accept it or not without asking…

They have the exact same Verifone eftpos terminal (black, colour LCD) as the ones in Woolworths. If they have this terminal, then it'll work. If not, then no…

      • But, assuming if i only want to use $20 out of my $100 eguft card, when they scan my egift card, for sure the balance will remain in my egiftcard?

Any idea if i can use this egift card and purchase wish gift card ? just for a peace of mind… Thank you

        • +2

The balance remains and you can use whatever amount of it you like. I use these for petrol all the time. Sometimes I have to split the payment over two eGift cards.

        • On a woolworths terminal just go to egift cards. Then type in the card number and pin. You do not need to scan anything (hint: just put the numbers on your phone). It makes it really convenient but also treat those numbers like cash and use it up quickly as anyone with those numbers can use it

    • "Any idea if i can use this egift card and purchase wish gift card ? just for a peace of mind… Thank you"

Yes. That's what I've been doing and have never had a problem. You may find that a certain cashier may say you can't do this. Stand your ground and say that you always do it. They will eventually cave in… or, go to another cashier. Worst case scenario is you go to another store.

    • The card can simply be used at woolworths etc. These are printed on the egiftcard PDF file. for caltex, only woolworths co-branded caltex.
moreover, you can buy giftcard of other retails from Big W. I bought Rebel Sports before. This is still ok with woolworths/BigW. You can't with others like Coles, K-Mart… Those explicitly printed on the card that not valid for buying giftcards.

  • 2 weeks really? I ordered my last lot from the entertainment book deal and it was more like 2 hours!

    • +1

Entertainment Book purchase redirects you to the everydaygiftcard website. Groupon doesn't, that's why it's different.

    • The last one I bought from groupon a few weeks ago, it only took 3 days.

  • +2

For those concerned about receiving international transaction fees from using a credit card, don't be. If you do you can get a refund on the fee.
    See here - http://grouponaustralia.zendesk.com/entries/21872740-I-bough…

"Our payments are processed via an overseas gateway and from time to time, your financial institution or payment provider may charge you an additional fee for transacting with us because of this. If this happens to you, please contact our Customer Care team with a screenshot of the fees that you were charged, and they will attend to the problem."

There is also no issue in using an eGift card to purchase a physical Wish Gift card.I did this last night. If you buy $100 eGift card, simply ask at counter to purchase $100 Wish Gift card, and when it comes to payment say you will be using an eGift card. Put your eGift card details into EFTPOS machine and you're good to go. My store was unaware if it could be done, so said lets just try it, and it went all smoothly.

    • +7

For those concerned about receiving international transaction fees from using a credit card, don't be

it shouldn't be happening in the first place. your time in unnecessarily wasted and your money is unnecessarily tied up for weeks

      • Correct and apparently they are changing this, but for now you are covered.

        http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/business/groupon-to-dump-cu…

        • +2

that was 8 months ago and they still haven't implemented any changes. they don't appear to be serious about it. they couldn't give a stuff about their customers.

i rarely buy much off them as it is too much of a hassle trying to chase up a refund for fees each time.

        • @mattgal:

Agree with that, I have tried to use them once, and they cancelled it for everyone.

        • As of last week Groupon purchases are still labeled as being processed in Zurich.

        • @mattgal:
I bet payments are processed through Zurich not because it's more convenient or easier for Australian customers, but because Groupon can pay low corporate tax rates there. Also they hope most consumers won't notice the up to 3% surcharge on their 'foreign' purchase in Australian dollars.

      • use pay pal

        • paypal protection doesn't cover disputes for digital goods

        • @mattgal: No international fees.

    • I had an international transaction fee on one of my Groupon purchases and emailed help desk with the deal ID and got a refund without any problem.

The refund came back to me as a credit at Groupon which will be used when I buy the next eGift card.

      • I chose refund to my bank account. Groupon quoted "up to" 10 business days to receive the refund. It ended up taking 15 business days. With the intervening Easter holiday, it took nearly a month to get my money back. Always use Paypal if you have the option.

        • +2

I prefer the slight hassle and 50% extra Qantas points by using Amex instead of Paypal.

        • @snuke: Same for me.

        • +6

          @snuke:

You can just add your amex to your PayPal account and have less hassle but same points. I find refund from PayPal can be easier than charge backs as well.

        • @leyton01: Good tip, thanks.

        • @leyton01:

The Amex is on my Paypal as the default card, but for Aus sellers it won't use the Amex, and goes to my MC. However, we are talking about all this due to the OS transaction, so Amex should get used. Will see what comes up.

        • @leyton01: paypal might take time to process, my recent experience with amex has faster response, called them at night, ask me to submit the email correspondence with Groupon, the next day, i got my credit back :)

        • I have an NAB credit card that attracts a foreign exchange fee for PayPal services that were priced in USD$ and then converted by PayPal to AUD$. Essentially, I pay foreign exchange fees twice. I've given up on using that card and instead use my BankWest Platinum. No foreign exchange fees, ever.

        • +1

@snuke: My amex used to be greyed out for au sellers but I have been using it for a while now through paypal without any issue for all my AUD transactions.

        • @whitty:

I just purchased 10 x $100 cards via PayPal, it came up with MC as the card, i was able to change it to use Amex.

  • +4

I went through cash rewards a few months ago, bought $1000 value of cards and to my delight yesterday got around $37 cashback. Nothing to lose by going through cash rewards and you might be lucky.

    • Ditto…

    • It is in my account but has not approved yet. Fingers crossed.

    • I think they no longer give cash back for gift cards.

  • Hi Guys,
    New to groupon.
Just purchased a voucher from them.
On their website, it now shows me a PDF

The PDF gives me the below
    Security Code:
    Voucher Code:
    Deal ID:

    is that it?
    so nothing in the mail?

I print off and go shopping?

    • You will have to wait until they email you voucher links. Takes a few weeks though. Last lot took me 3 weeks to get by email.

      • Thanks Emma

        How to Redeem

        1) Buy your BIG W eGift Card on Groupon
        2) Ensure you enter correct address at checkout on Groupon website
        3) BIG W eGift Card will be emailed to you in approx. 2-4 business days from the domain @everydaygiftcards.com.au
        4) You will not be sent a Groupon voucher via email, only use the BIG W eGift Card for redemption
        5) Use the BIG W eGift Card in-store or by following the instructions on the gift card
        • BIG W eGift Card is valid for 12 months from the issue date

After the purchase. We are stuck on step 3 waiting for EDR to email us.

And… it may take up to 3 weeks.

(correct me if i am wrong)

    • +1

You need to wait for an email from woolies ([email protected]) which has the pdf with the correct details.

  • +1

I just realised I've not received my gift cards from the last deal. Purchased March 25. Is this normal delay?

    • It sounds like there is some issue for it to take that long. Can you still log in to Groupon?

I had my account frozen and that held up processing of transactions. Happened when I used a different credit card than I had in the past and their system suspected that it may be a fraudulent transaction.

Call or email help desk with the transaction ID and ask them what has happened?

    • I would ask them but i purchased it on the same day and only received it 3 days ago (on the 15th) so it could just be they are delayed

    • check your spam folder

  • +1

Does anyone know how to use the Groupon gift cards to purchase this card. I tried to use groupon code on the gift card and put it in the redemp ciode box but that didn't work.

    • Yeah, when I am logged in and enter the Groupon Voucher code in the box I get the error "Your code did not work this time. Note you need to be logged in to use a code; please log in or register below. Otherwise this code may have already been used, does not meet the minimum voucher price or is invalid."

I want to pay the balance by Paypal, but does a gift card only work if you enter a credit card number?

    • I got a reply from Groupon support. They said "Please be advised that in this case a physical card will be despatched to you and you will have to use the voucher code mentioned in that in order to avail a discount here."

      • Oh really, I guess we might have to wait a month for them to come. These cards are all sold out now

  • Followed up with the email address they provided in the receipt and below is what i got:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

     [email protected]

    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain stardeals.com.au by stardeals.com.au.s10a1.psmtp.com. [74.125.244.10].

    • Probably a non replyable email. Try emailing Groupon customer service.

  • +1

Bonus 4.25% Cashback when going through Cashrewards as well

    • Not applicable to Big W gift card.

  • This is NOT new, I have bought 10X$100 and 10X$200, I have reach maximum number and I am not allowed to buy more.

    • +3

      Get a new account,mate

  • Will Officeworks price match?

  • Made a purchase online from Woolworths a few weeks back and paid with eGift card. A couple of items were out of stock. I received an email from Woolworths with a coupon code credit that could be used in a future purchase.

I am not sure if this is always the case or if they can also apply a credit to the eGift card?

    • you can ask them to convert the credit to a gift card that they mail out to you. it takes a couple of weeks to process

i've also found woolworths online to be unreliable.

    • Happened to me as well.

  • +1

Very nice. Ordered another $1k worth. The last batch took almost 2 weeks to arrive which was a little annoying, but still, they're here.

  • thanks mate..

  • Thanks a lot for this! My first Groupon purchase, will go along nicely with my staff discount! ;P

  • +1

I cannot purchase. Every time I go to submit order, it says processing, then says wrong card format and wants my credit card number again. Tried Amex twice and Visa once, same result. The numbers are exactly as laid out on my cards and in the correct boxes on screen. Never had this happen with an online purchase before. Don't want to keep resubmitting the order as I'm certain all details are correct, must be some sort of glitch. Oh well, good deal, maybe next time.

    • +1

What about putting your card details into paypal and trying to purchase it that way? I purchased mine through paypal and it went through straight away!

      • +1

Thanks for the suggestion, thought about that but trying to buy in my husbands name and he doesn't have a Paypal account. Plus personally I've found Amex much better than Paypal chasing things up if something goes wrong. Appreciate your reply anyway.

  • +1

Still haven't received the other one. It's been ages. I'd rather just get 5% than wait months and months.

  • Recently got my 10 x $200 eGift cards from the last deal (took nearly 3 wks). Unsure if I'll get the remaining 10 x $100.
Recently got my Cash rewards from my January Groupon / eGift cards - makes the deal even sweeter.

  • $200 cards are SOLD OUT.

  • Thanks OP.

  • -1

Just saw this deal, ALL sold out?

  • There are 7504 sales in total, based on the assumption of $200 each order, total value of sales are 7504x200= $1500800

We OZBargainers tend to buy groceries/other goods and services when they are in half price, plus cash back from other promotions, I was wondering how much profit WW can make.

Any WW share holders have any concern at all?

    Cheers,

    Bob

    • +1

Not all will be spent on groceries. Some will be spent on liquor or petrol. Bigger margins on these than groceries.

Also any money spent at WW is not being spent at Coles, Aldi etc so their loss will be more perhaps in lost sales?

And some vouchers will never be redeemed, meaning they gain whole amount paid on these ones.

    • +1

It'd be safe to presume most who have super would've shares in WW, so they're actually supporting them with these purchases. Now they're locked in to WW having bought them! Now WW can rock n roll with that ready cash haul:-) Makes me wanna grab a few WW shares myself (although I'm wary of the Infinity cable fiasco) ! Have a nice day fellow oz-bargainers.

    • if it is anything like loyalty points, then i'm guessing woolworths factor in discounted gift cards in to their margins.

  • How come this one sold out so much quicker than the last one? I was just getting warmed up.

  • $100 cards back in stock, I've just bought some.

  • +1

NAB just charged me 3% on my Groupon purchase. Time to email Groupon and claim it back. Australian purchase, in Australian dollars, yet I get charged a foreign transaction fee because Groupon charges the credit card from Switzerland. Watch out for this trap.
