Here's a list of all clearance items sorted by price, Couldn't find anything cheap that I wanted Gloves, mirrors, other gear etc

    • Hi mate,

try amazon… I usually find some pretty good deals there…even with shipping.

Here is an example of gloves that they'll ship here: http://tinyurl.com/mxe9yvy

I love chain reaction's free shipping to buy cheap products that shipping would usually kill the deal.

      • Ha ha Thanks, I didn't want them just letting people know that was all that was available.

The Ebay bottle holders are way cheaper… :-)

      • I have both these cheap ones before.. They break after ONE ride due to the weight of the bottle n bumps on the road.

They do this almost monthly, great for deals like High 5 tabs or boxes of gels that would not be economical to buy on their own because of shipping. Hard to find great deals though with the euro cycling season kicking off and interest in cycling ramping upwards towards the TDF. I assume all of the fanboys out on Beach Rd will be rocking the new season's Castelli kit at the coffee shops so no need to discount until they've all been seperated from their expendable $$. Next great chance for bargains will be in Aug/Sep when they are dumping whatever stock they have left

Haha, so true…Beach Rd is the home of cycling wannabe tools. Anyone sitting in lycra sipping a latte should be slapped.

  • Thinking of Buying some Cycling Gloves, These are ~16 $, seem decent, does anyone have any experience with gloves from this site ?

    Thx

    • Ive always worn Troy Lee XC which are dearer at $40 so cant comment on them but the reviews on CRC tend to be fairly accurate.

    • +1

no, but i've found the reviews to be pretty good indication of quality. Both those items seem well liked. Risk with gloves online is always sizing. I'm anything from a medium to XL. Often worth going to the manafacturers sight and seeing if they have a size guide, they often have measurements around the knuckle.

Pity about the bike shipping. $200 kills what would otherwise be a bargain price for some of the lower end bikes.

Remember the GST hit you may take as well, plus import taxes if its over $1,000.

Although I managed to order 3 lots under $1k recently to avoid it and the only thing that should have charged was the frame ($1.5k) but for some reason customs decided against charging me either GST or import tax!

And by ordering everything separately I got free shipping.

Helps if you have decent bike knowledge/tools and know how to build them though.

      • Yeah.. Buy a Chinese carbon frame set and Chinese carbon wheels. Then get your Shimano group set from crc or wiggle.

Also don't forget the Qwibble or Pricepal cashback on anything you buy from these guys!!

everytime this free shipping no minimum spend happens I always buy stuff totalling ~$100…

Long time chain reaction users, usually has the cheapest good quality bike gear and is always my goto website when I need gear, which is pretty often as i do 400-500km a week. Also checkout Bikebug.com , Aussie site with fast delivery plus stores in NSW, VIC & SA. Prices are not quite as cheap but far cheaper than the usual local bike shop, so a great option if you're desperate for stuff. M2C

I find ribblecycles.co.uk is normally cheapest, particularly for bike bits like chains, pedals etc but you have to check around. Merlincycles can also have some great deals and i bought some baselayers from Wiggle last weekend (early morning rides are getting cold!!)

    • Last time I was on their website it was fairly limited for more high end stuff. Has that changed?

      • Depends what you call high-end. I bought a 105 groupset (5800) in one of their sales around XMas time for a build on a 2nd hand frame. Gruppo cost around $350 ish and I have never seen it close to that anywhere since. I think BikeBug etc have it around $500. Their wheels were cheap as well but they have a $50 shipping charge for wheels that killed the deal.

I've also bought some nicks etc from them, they are generally the cheapest in my experience but it is always worth checking as some items are cheaper elsewhere. I bought my son some cheap endura bibs from them and they were the best price I could find (around $45 i think at the time and came with a small tube of chamois cream). Like all of the others they have the free postage above around $80 ish.

Yeh, gotta love crc. Other great sites ar Ribble, Wiggle and Torpedo7. Once you know what you want head on over to https://frugalrouleur.com/ this does a price comparison across 9 major online bike parts suppliers.

Ribble used to be the best, so good in fact I thought that they had made a mistake.

    • http://byke.com.au/ is another comparison site, looks like it is down at the moment though. Problem with the comparison is that you have to get the search term pretty close. Tough to search for general terms like 'windstopper softshell jacket' it will find a few but not all because some brands call their material 'windshell' or 'windshield' etc and maybe they dont specify 'softshell.

Have bought many times from CRC before as well and always satisfied. Keep in mind shipping time is longer than Wiggle, sometimes two weeks.

  • +2

Unfortunately you could spend hours looking through over 4,000 items listed in their clearance catalog … and then when you go to buy .. it tells you only then that it's our of stock .. why don't they just reduce their clearance stock list to make it simplified??? .. or do they just want to waste our time???

  • Thanks OP, was about time I brought some more High5 tabs, the free shipping makes it well worth it.
