Er and if you work at a chemist, you should know it should not be mixed with alcohol unless you want your glutathione stores to deplete…

      • If you are going to be involved in something (comments below) that could be interpreted as a medical advice from a pharmacist/pharmacy, you should try to be careful with what you say, although it was fairly clear that it was a comment made in jest. :)

        Just my 2 cents.

  • Where's the link to the deal ?

  • These tablets are typical of Paracetamol at 500mg
I discovered recently that the difference between a therapeutic does of Paracetamol and a fatal or liver damaging one is surprisingly small.

"An overdose of paracetamol can cause serious harm. The maximum amount of paracetamol for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day. Taking more paracetamol could cause damage to your liver. If you drink more than three alcoholic beverages per day, talk to your doctor before taking paracetamol and never use more than 2 grams (2000 mg) per day."

    • Paracetamol is safe for long term use in healthy adult if you do not exceed the 1000mg per dose and 4000mg per day dosing. For the elderly, it is sometimes recommended that the maximum dosage per day does not exceed 3000mg per day.

Paracetamol is safe for long term use

Yeah, if you don't mind getting liver damage

If you need to take it long term, talk to your doctor first, and not listen to some random person on the internet who profits from selling this…

      • Thank you for the link. This Consumer Medication Information provides lots of useful information. To add to the benefit of paracetamol, regular dosing of paracetamol can provide better relief of chronic pain than using anti-inflammatory medication with better safety too.

    • paracetamol overdose is a huge issue, very common in hospitals. People get sick and take cold/flu/etc meds that usually have a large dose in them and don't realise, then chase it with standard pills to put them over the edge.

      • +1

That is absolutely correct. Therefore, we always ask customers what other medications they are taking when giving out any cold and flu medications with paracetamol, we will always advise them not to take any more paracetamol containing products like Panadol, Panamax, etc. If however, their pain or temparature is not resolved or they need more, they can always take anti-inflammatory like Nurofen together with paracetamol if they are not contraindicated.

    • I do toxicology and an average person would need 76 tablets in one session to OD

    • Actually paracetamol has an enormous therapeutic window and is one of the reasons it's a great drug. You do need to take a lot to get liver damage. This is why it's available over the counter. When working in ED it's obvious that paracetamol overdoses are most common, but that's just because it's so accessible and cheap.

I am a doctor but this is not medical advice to any particular person. People with liver damage, for example, should not take paracetamol. No one should go over the 4g, even though it's a very safe drug.

  • Is there any for back pain?

    • Parapane will help with any pain including back pain. However sometimes back pain will need additional relief if there is inflammation involved and therefore an anti-inflammatory medication may help more. For people who are looking for long term anti-inflammatory effect or who cannot take anti-inflammatory medication, curcumin (turmeric extract) tablet is an excellent alternative.

      • a recent systematic review doesn't agree with your claims. Although you have mentioned it ism't a likly long term treatment

        Edit: forgot the link http://www.bmj.com/content/350/bmj.h1225

        • For those that don't want to read the whole report, it's ok, I have done it for you and these are probably the main points

High quality evidence suggests that paracetamol is ineffective in reducing pain and disability or improving quality of life in patients with low back pain

Though high quality evidence shows that patients taking paracetamol are nearly four times more likely to have abnormal results on liver function tests compared with those taking oral placebo, the clinical relevance of this is unclear

        • @TightBottom: thanks for that next time i'll include a tldr

    • Any analgesics that claim "back pain" or "period pain" are just marketing.

All the different types of paracetamol/ibuprofen etc work exactly the same.

Even something such as Naprogesic that's exclusively marketed for period pain will help with other aches and pains.

How is this cheaper than Chemist Warehouse? Many times you will find a "made in France". panamax for 89c for 100 tabs ..

    • +1

Made in India is the usual case when I go looking.

    • You are right Chemist Warehouse have 200's for under $2 too.

      • IMHO I would just stick with chemist warehouse. The other pharmacies seriously rip you off.

  • In Which country is parapane made ?

  • +2

I don't mind made in India. It's the made in China ones that I am not comfortable with .
