  • Wow even cheaper than the ebay deal at $436

After reading reviews of DWI, I have decided not to get this phone. I don't need the hassle if there are any warranty issues.

More bad reviews about DWI international.

Man my S5 is so worthless now.

    • I just sold one on ebay with a cracked screen for not much less than this phone.

    • I can feel the typical regret ozbargain deep inside you

  • +1

I saw these going cheap on eBay but skipped them since optus sucked ass in Darwin until the 900mhz 3g came along. I don't know if 2100mhz only is better now, but I'm not going to risk it

    • Damn , very rarely to found TOP END fellow here in this web.

Thank you so much OP i have been looking for a new phone at a good price point for the past few weeks, was thinking the z2 but decided not too and glad i waited out!
on another note does anyone have any waterproof cases they recommended and tempered glass solutions?

  • +1

Wow, that is cheap. I missed out. My wallet is happier for it though.

  • No order update? Anyone?

    • neither

edit: nvm just received email its despatched now, courier going to pick it up within 24 hrs then I get tracking number

      • Same man
        Cheers

      • Do you know if this means that the order will definitely be processed? I have never bought from them before, and wanted to order a case if it will actually get processed.

        • Mines shipped and they gave me a tracking. Shipped with Toll global

  • just received mine, at first i thought it was a fake but upon futher inspection it is genuine s5 however all the instructions are in Japanese.
Second it has already been rooted with superuser installed, which is why i thought it was fake. It also comes with a charging dock. Seems to be pretty sweet so far. Also my battery life was at 20% when usually new phones have 50% battery. All in all pretty happy with the pruchase super fast delivery from HK.

    • Does yours come with a charger plug?
Cause mine only comes with dock and usb cable + converter

      Also, does your fingerprint working?

      • +1

Why would it be rooted? Was the box open when you got it?

        • If it has been rooted can it easily be converted back to stock?

        • @unity1:

yeah its easy to unroot. You just reformat the phone as far as I know.

        • @trumpedup:

Any possibility of being locked back to au?

        • @trumpedup: You mean just tap reformat on the memory wipe screen? Will it fix it then? I can't use fingerprint scan or banking without it being factory.

        • +1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Yeah that will remove the root and bring it to stock. Assuming they didnt install their own software on it.

        • @trumpedup: It makes it sound like it'll be bricked if I do that, i.e. remove all the firmware and everything? Or will it just cut it back to nothing but the firmware?

      • yeah same dock plus usb, also fingerprint scanner doesn't work.
Seems to be on a custom build called Space X 4.2.
Heart rate sensor does work tho.
also box was open. does anyone know if the original firmware can be flashed, havent done this sort of thing dont want to brick my new phone.

        • yeah just download firmware from sammobile and flash it over. It will require the use of ODIN.

I dont know if this video is still relevant but I used this for my galaxy s3

        • @trumpedup: Alright cheers for that, might just stick to the custom rom installed was going to root anyway. It feels really slick anyway plus wont be using fingerprint scanner.

  • Mine also arrived today at about 24% charge. It was rooted with custom rom (idk which) and using twrf as recovery. Did not come with adaptor but did come with a soiled converter and charge port.

    • Does your finger scanner work?

      • Not sure with the firmwire it came with but it works with stock firmwire I installed.

        • Stock as in stock android or samsung?
After unrooting, is the phone still unlocked to any carrier?

        • @aldoboy:
Stock samsung? I think. I don't know what you mean. Before I got this phone I had no idea about that stuff. It forced me to look all of it up. In the end I found the guide on this link after putting it through google translate:
          http://magichand.info/magichand2/sm/pg24.html (japanese)

it says that SCL23KDU1BNG3 KDDI is the latest official stock that isn't locked to a carrier. I haven't tried flashing it myself.

the SCL23-TEKCAFE-STOCK-2014.11.11.rar spoken of is a vietnamese rom which gets rid of the japanese bloatware. it works fine.

        • @Zoidian:

          Hi Zoidian

Is there any chance you could tell us which stock firmware you are using? I'm a complete noob to flashing etc, but this phone is irritating the S*IT out of me. GPS doesn't work and I can't use online banking properly.

        • @AG_ACT:
Any progress on this? Just realised that my GPS isn't working either. My banking apps seem to be working okay though. Im scared that reformating will brick the phone?

        • +2

          @cinna:

Yeah mate, I installed the SCL23-TEKCAFE-STOCK-2014.11.11.rar rom, and got the GPS to work eventually (with a lot of mucking around). That also fixed the fingerprint scanner, but no go on the banking stuff.

I think I've killed my phone completely now though by trying to fix the last issue. Lets hope I can unbrick it when I get home.

  • Can confirm this comes unsealed. There were no seals on the box to begin with by the looks of it. A few finger prints visible.

Was this advertised as brand new?

    • +1

Everyone's phones came rooted, and since this is a phone made for the Japanese market it most likely had it's stock firmware removed and replaced with a different ROM. So it would had to have been unsealed to do so.

      • +2

So what improvements is rooting going to bring to this phone over one that is stock? I was only looking for a stock phone and not having to muck around with the software.

  • Wow, just received mine. Phone's manufacturing date is 2015/Jan so the phone is literally 3 months old?

Edit: mine came 84% and in English? Default language was set to English (US)
no visible fingerprints on screen, the protector or the device itself.

    Same custom build: SpaceX v4.2

  • Anyone have difficulty connecting to Google services?

  • I got mine a few days back too. Same custom rom (space x 4.2) and the phone was rooted. I am having trouble with getting the headset controls to work. Handsfree answering/ending calls and volume up and down buttons are not working as intended. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Ended up cancelling my order. Apparently there's a "network issue" (which I assume means they've run out of stock). Was pretty disappointed with the whole process; at one point I received a shipping confirmation then was told that was a mistake then told it would be sent within 24 hours. Four days later the "network issue" came up

  • Bought S5 from DWI. Disaster
    - GPS didn't work in the beginning; then
    - 3G didn't work for periods of time for no reason; now
    - Phone won't boot up. It's dead.

    What's the repair policy?

  • Being a rooted phone this would trip the Knox sensor, good luck getting any warranty from Samsung on these.

    • No support from anywhere… DWI are completely useless; Samsung doesn't help; basically, if you bought this phone like I did, you are a b***y idiot.

There is next to no support online as well. I posted questions on three different sites and grand total of 2 responses… neither helpful.

      • 128 upvotes before i negged… wtf do they have people working to promote their product on here?

  • Raise a ticket to get it refunded, as it doesn't match what you thought it would. I got a full refund (less the cost of shipping it back). Took a few follow up calls, but all good now, and I'll just buy an S6 on plan instead.

    • You PAID shipping for returning a DEFECTIVE product? Wow these guys are crooks.

      • Happy to get out of it $11 worse off. Wasn't defective per se, but you have to know your stuff to know that a Japanese phone will have been rooted, and that rooted phones are unusable for banking etc.

      • I've had to pay shipping to get a refund on an ebay purchase but that doesn't mean they're crooks.

  • I can't find the NFC menu on this phone. I ran an app which told me this phone is not NFC capable. Anyone have a work around for this issue other than send it back for a refund? I feel uncomfortable using this phone for sensitive applications whilst it's running foreign 3rd party software.

  • Does anyone have a screen shot of the original advertisement? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could forward me a copy. Thank you.

  • I recently purchased on ebay a Samsung Galaxy S5 SCL23 and was not told it was a Japanese model. I can send and receive sms messages but I cannot reply to sms messages sent to me. It appears the model has the Japanese international country code embedded. On the plus side it is a great phone and included in the package was a charging dock which is a real bonus.

    • Maybe an ozbargainer getting rid of their purchase? What firmware is on the phone?

  • Not getting rid of my Galaxy S5, rather a Galaxy S5 keeper after having the sms issue solved by Samsung chat.

    • I meant maybe you purchased it from someone on ozbargain getting rid of their S5.
