Check here for Aussie network frequencies.
      http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_phone_frequencies

As I can see, this phone is missing the UMTS900 for Optus / Virgin carriers
      As well as missing 850mhz(B5), 2600mhz (B7) and also 700mhz (B28)

Edit - I have added the relevant information to the main description

Good job scrimshaw pretty much sums it up.

Although it looks like it has support for LTE 1800 (B3) (Telstra, VHA, Optus 4G)

It's also missing LTE900 (B8) but I've only seen a few Telstra sites using this frequency.

If you want an S5 that supports all Australian frequencies look for S5 SM-G900I.

Any issues with connecting to a local 4G network? Seems like a bonkers deal if there are no hiddent catches.

  • Anyone have experience with DWIdigitalcameras?

      DWIdigitalcameras?

They are OK for most people comments that bought from them.

    • +2

Have been buying from them for a few years now and only got good things to say..

    • +2

I'll add my +1 for them

      • Me too. Only bought one thing but it was smooth as can be.

    • Bought a few things from them before like SLR lenses etc. and haven't had any problems

    • +1

I've purchased a phone from them before and had trouble with the phone, couldn't be repaired so they sent me another. Wasn't the quickest experience but the local company handling the repairs was super helpful even after it became a replacement they keep me updated when I requested.

      • Nice to hear pin4e, I've only bought one phone from dwi, had no issues. Super fast delivery, only 3 days, can't complain about that.

  • +3

Does it work on 4g here? Might sell my s3 and upgrade on the cheap

  • the goose drank wine?

must resist… stop tempting me! Hide this damn post

  • the price is so good but i want sony Z3 more, anyone know which phone is better?

    • S5 for the camera, robustness (plastic vs glass), screen and multi window! (… And Quick Connect if you have other Samsung devices.) It's also much lighter and smaller than the z3, despite similar screen sizes.

Z3 for the more elegant feel, and front facing speakers.

… Personally I'd go for the Samsung for those reasons above.

      • -2

        thx for your comments !
currently i am using Note 2, but i wanna try some other brands such as sony z3, it looks like nicer.

        • Yeah it looks nicer! And that's a big plus in my opinion.

S5 went functionality over form. If you're going on an adventure and have an active lifestyle like me, s5. If you're going to a formal dinner, z3! Enjoy.

        • I had a Sony Z Tablet and it did not allow to transfer any apps to the SD card, while Samsung tablets do.

Be sure that the Z3 allows otherwise go with the Samsung.

I will never buy any android device from Sony. I am done.Cheers.

      • +3

Sony Xperia Z3 I think has a better camera, 16MP vs 20.1MP and 2.1MP vs 2.2MP. Z3 also has great low light conditions, though S5 reproduces white better.

Battery life on the Z3 is better, but apparently the recent 5.0 update reduced that. S5 has a removable battery, so if you carry a spare, you'll have plenty.

Sony Xperia Z3 has 3GB of RAM, so should last the longer out of the two into the future regarding software. But non-removable battery limits you to 3 years use anyway.

        • +3

Unsure why everyone downvoted you - most of your comments were pros and cons of both devices.

        • +4

          @DrStinge:

Seems recently people downvote without explanation, it isn't a good trait of a website. Funny thing is, I checked review websites to make sure what I was saying was correct:

          http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Sony-Xperia-Z3-vs-Samsung-…

          http://www.techradar.com/au/news/phone-and-communications/mo…

I guess if you say something (anything) negative against a product someone likes, even if valid, they get offended.

        • +2

          @FabMan:

This is true, fluctuates from time to time. Thank God they're only internet points haha.

        • +1

          @DrStinge:

          :D

True, though, people looking will instantly dismiss my post, or others with unnecessary large negative votes, not realising there maybe valid points there.

        • @DrStinge: He neggged the deal and it didn't meet voting guidelines

        • @zelda707:

I negged this deal? Okay, that makes sense now. I didn't have an opinion on this deal and was intending to leave it neutral, I must have clicked by mistake. Thanks for clearing that up. Explains the message I got when I logged back on stating I had lots of negs.

Funny thing, I went to upvote you and I hit neg instead, looks like I just can't help myself.

      • Haha… Got down voted by someone.

        Sony fans, seriously?

    • Forget the z3. I wanted a compact until reading about the issues people have had with shattering screens and case
back, poor waterproofing etc and unable to claim warranty. Samsung will last the distance.

      • +10

Then you should read about about the Samsung's hairline cracks, dodgy waterproofing, screen burn/smear/purple spot, warranty claim issue (oh wait DWI…). No, honestly if you go searching for problems on google you will find anything.

  • Is it time to upgrade my Nexus 4?

And since it's the Japanese version, I think there won't be the Samsung branding on the front.

  • This or Asus Zenfone 2 …..

    • +4

      Zenfone 2

      • Any good reason why bro besides the obvious Zenfone 2's price advantage?

        • higher specs…cheaper. Provided you dont want a waterproof phone specifically…

  • So this will work on all carriers except Optus?

    • Yeah I'm confused by all the LTE band stuff!

Can anyone explain it like in layman's terms?

    • +1

It will work on ALL carriers.

However you will get less connectivity. That's all.

      • Will Vodafone 4G work at all?

      • So I would think 4G is generally OK in inner Sydney and other major cities, right?

        • Yes. If you are with Voda, the ONLY 4G network band you will receive is 1800mhz LTE (B3). 850mhz LTE B5 is not supported.

If you can't receive B3 you will fall back to using 3G UMTS 850/2100.

      • What does that mean?? Edit…seems like it will be limited reception with Optus - I was going to give it as a gift to someone who has Amaysim…might give it a miss…

        • +1

I made it easier to understand. Check the table above.

        • @scrimshaw:

So it will work with amaysim 3g and 4g?

        • +1

Yes, just not as fast as it should be.

        • @scrimshaw:

Thanks mate, very much appreciate your help.

  • Will this work on Vodafone 4G here at all?

  • Will this work with amaysim?

    • +3

DWI support just told me Telstra will definitely work, Optus should be good in urban areas and Vodafone not recommended.

  • So I take it this is not compatible with 4G on LiveConnected then?

  • Maybe this has been answered but I have no idea how to read band frequencies. Will this work with Optus 4G in inner Sydney? Have $400 to spend on a new phone from travel insurance so this fits the bill perfectly (unless any has any other recommendations)

    • Optus broadcasts the following freqs
      LTE 700MHz, LTE 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2300MHz, and 2600MHz.

This phone will receive the following frequencies

      LTE2100 (B1), LTE1800 (B3),

So you are OK with 4G connectivity.

  • Is this milkyway or Andromeda

  • Will this have Australian warranty?

  • Anyone else think this is a pricing error and won't be honoured? I put the order in, with payment method direct deposit…. wondering if I should have done it via Paypal.

  • Very good price.

  • +1

Xperia Z2 bargain might be better than this one since the phone have more feature (even though it's fragile)

    • +1

Agree, been using one and thrre is no so called crack screen blah blah

      • Strange, people with most positive vote always complaint that the screen is fragile like a wine glass.
But I never heard a complaint/warning from youtube reviewer/ comment about Xperia Z2

S5 doesn't have that much improvement from S4 which I don't think it's a best deal to begin with. And Mostly I heard positive review about Z2 especially the camera + smooth crispy graphics other than that durability issue

        • +1

True, the battery is amazing too on z2, plus no way the built quality can even on par with the z2, camera on z2 can do much more than s5, ips screen is much better for web surfing as it save more battery with white colour background on most webpages and etc

    • Shame it's out of stock.

    • +2

Z2? More features? I think you've got it the other way around.

S5 has more hardware features (fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor, ir remote blaster… And also removable / replaceable battery.)

S5 has more software features. Multi window (YouTube while Chrome internet browsing… Both at the same time,) and a whole bunch of other stuff for you to discover.

S5 easily has the superior camera, check out blind test results on Phone Arena.

…all in a smaller, lighter package.

The only thing the z2 trumps the s5, as far as I can tell, is the front facing stereo speakers. The other things are subjective (looks).

      • Inose you can use apps like viral or FireTube to have YouTube while browsing on any phone. That's what I use on my note 4, Which I prefer to multi window on a phone.

      • +1

Sorry mate but the z2 battery is better than the s5 battery and a replacement battery put together.

        • Sony > Samsung

        • Nope.

The z2 battery is amazing as I've heard…

But as a traveler, nothing beats a replaceable battery.

        • @fuzor:

          …what do you mean?

      • Z2 deal is 16GB and battery non removable really breaks the deal for me..

  • I'm buying this. Will make a great pressie

  • Any recommended cases?

    • +1

Syigen Ultra Hybrid or Ringke Fusion Hybrid

  • Which Japanese network was this phone for?
    Softbank?
    docomo?
    Au?

    • the picture shows Au

  • Also the XiaoMi 10400mAh PowerBank for an extra $20 is not bad either

  • +6

Plus postage for regional is $15 (standard) to 34.40 ( express with insurance).
Plus a 2%paypal surcharge! Never had a PayPal surcharge added before!

    • Heaps of places are adding 2% paypal charge, and of late in Brisbane i have noticed a lot of shops adding 2% paypass fee!

      • ALDI ADDED PAYPASS FEE !!!

        • No such thing. It's a visa/MC fee. And it's a very modest 0.5%. Well worth the points if you're on a 1:1 card. :)

  • Good deal if in market for new phone. Touchwiz performance has improved too since lollipop update; which tends to be a concern for some people when buying Samsung phones.

  • Quick question - would this work sufficient with a 3G TPG plan? I know it has UMTS 2100 but lacks the UMTS900 that the TPG plan would use on the Optus network. Just wondering if that would be an issue when using data

  • good price for an S5 but IMO not worth it with the missing frequencies.

  • -2

Everyone, be aware with this seller. Went to their productreviews page and seems All of the helpful comment have ain't pretty experience with them, Even though they got 4.2 out of 2260 rating (pssttt, which I think is mainly bot vote)

Also, is this grey imported or local stock which is GST included?

    • +1

I've bought at least 3 phones from these guys with no issues.

Yes they sell grey imports, no GST invoice

    • +1

what do you think, local stock with this price? we live in australia, mate

  • I just bought a ZenFone 2, I hope I didn't make a dumb mistake.

    • Me too!

If this was a dual sim s5 i would definitely go for it. Theyre all around $500 tho unfortunately

      • Did you get the 64gb or 32gb? Shame the 32gb doesn't have 3.2gh (or is it 3.1?).

  • +1

    didn't need a new phone
but my inner ozb just pulled the trigger, can't help :(

  • Will this phone work on TPG? They don't have 4g right?

    • correct
