iSelect $300 Savings Promise Promo Extended till 30/4

850

Hi all,
this deal is available by phone only 131920 - and I've got a $300 Visa Debit Card coming my way for my 20 minute effort.

I have Bupa Hospital and Extras cover and the iSelect TV add prompted me to have a go.
So, I had my Bupa self-service web page open with all my details including excess, monthly payment, and entitlements lists.
The 2nd operator then rattled through a number of questions, put me on hold and then advised me that I have a good deal with Bupa (being an Ozbargainer, I expected so) and that they could not better it.
She then gave me a Customer ID number which I had to register through the hard to find address below.
http://digital.iselect.com.au/300-redemption/

I'm still waiting for the confirmation email, with which I have to submit/attach proof of my Bupa account - so I've got that ready with screenshots and PDFs ready to fire back at them.

Was told Visa card can take up to 3 months to be delivered - but I can wait.

Worst case - they'll find you a better cover !!

        • I mean to say they only do certain providers that cost more than other who are cheaper

        • +2

          @Gavman:

I'm afraid that is factually incorrect. Not only that but the exact opposite is true.

Better Bills has the most extensive database amongst the commercial health insurance comparison services currently operating in Australia! This is because they are the only such comparison service which would also show health funds who don't pay them a commissions.

The only place which might have a bigger database is the government's own comparison service which is not very user friendly and doesn't allow you to compare specific features and coverage side-by-side.

Better Bills currently have 80% of all the private health insurance plans (based on their market share according to PHIO data), which are publicly available in Australia, in its database. No commercial comparison service in Australia even comes close to that!

As an example, iSelect only have about 30% of the publicly available plans on their books and they are the biggest comparison site in Australia for private health insurance by an order of magnitude (especially since they listed and became a public company).

Trust me on this mate, we've done extensive research into Better Bills before deciding to endorse them. Both me, my mum and one member of my team have used their services ourselves personally.

I've also interviewed their director and co-founder on Spending Hacker and you can read the interview and draw your own conclusions.

Finally, some people have been complaining today that the range of providers they see on Better Bills is very limited and even smaller than on iSelect.

I spoke to Better Bills customer support myself and they advised me they have a temporary glitch in their database which prevents certain funds from showing in the results.

This should be fixed within the next few days so you might want to hold off from doing a comparison for now.

I hope this settles this issue once and for all :)

        • Cant see NIB Plans

  • Submitted my claim but no confirmation yet, will update once received.

I rang them up and provided them with the info and they told me that if I sign up today they will give me $350 voucher, when I said that because they haven't been able to beat my existing cover I should still qualify for $300 and she said no, and put me on hold and came back and said they are beating it. They quoted me $54 something and and I pay $50.85. When I asked for a reference number she just hang up on me.

I have rang them again to find out what is going on, the guy said he will listen to the call and get back to me. It is false advertisement in my opinion, what do you guys think?

    • +3

      That's not nice.
Try again tomorrow at a different time for a different operator.
Let us know how it goes.

    • +2

they probably get bombarded by ozbargainers phone call since 4hrs and 35mins ago.. that's why…

      • +1

Bombarded, an advertisers dream campaign - just slightly off target.

      • The "reference #" is simply your person ID in their system - should be an 8-digit number.
I gather that they make notes against your profile or something, and then when you submit your claim they check the docs you provide against the info they've recorded.

You COULD get your person ID from them and try to claim without it, and if questioned just say the consultant gave in and said you qualify for the $300 (but mustn't have noted it).

    • they tried to tell me if they can find a cheaper policy that matches my actual usage too they will give me $350 or something…but I don't quite understand what they were offering there.

    • Did they email you anything? A competitor plan for example? Mine did, the customer number is in the email subject..

      • The guys who said would listen to the call and get back to me, he did so and was very helpful and said he was confused about the other operator was saying in the recorded conversation. He gave me the customer number on the phone and also sent it an email.

  • +1

Thanks….first time round they didn't give me the id and said it would be emailed in 30 days….I rang back twice and someone different gave it to me.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Spoke to a really nice guy and it only took him 5 mins to figure out I have the best deal. Not only that, he told me he is actually having the same insurance policy as me and he said the cheapest he could find in iSelect is actually $35 per fortnight more than what I am paying. Score!

    • Beautiful - want to share the fund name ?

  • Just scored 4 claims. $1200 in 20 minutes…off to crown casino we go

  • I just read this in the T&C titled 'iSelect ‘Savings Promise’ April Fool Promotion' hmm…

  • +1

This is going to end badly, I doubt they'll be able to afford giving everyone a 300$ eftpos card. Don't hold your hopes high guys, iselect is a sleazebag.

    • It did get extended - must be a successful campaign.
      Else Ozbargain class action.

  • Took me 10-15 minutes, the guy told me I already have the cheapest cover. (I'm with NIB)
Submitted my claim about 2 hours ago, haven't received email confirmation yet.

  • Rang them up, and they told me I couldn't get the $300 gift card as my existing policy is one which only provides public hospital cover (private doctor in a public hospital). Looking back at the T&C it doesn't seem to state that restriction, so I wonder whether he tried to palm me off.

He did try to offer me the $350 gift card by switching to another policy which was a fair bit more expensive. I politely declined.

    • LOL.. show me the money!

    • Point e. must hold a current ‘Hospital’ or ’Hospital and Extras’ health insurance policy

      • My policy is a combined hospital and extras policy as per the T&C. However the hospital component is public hospital only.

  • They couldn't beat my cover with NIB, just scored $300 yay!

  • Wow, this was easy. 5 mins and done. I told my policy name and he put me on hold and told me they can't beat my policy so i score $300 card. And i was provided with unique number.

  • They couldn't beat my Medibank cover. Also scored $300. Thanks OP!

  • got gipped. couldnt match, medibank private since 2007. offered me higher excess and less inclusions for a cheaper fortnightly cost. refused to give the $300

  • Has anyone got the confirmation email yet?

  • +1

    They're tightening up on it.

I said I had hospital only and they tried to say that wasn't eligible. I had the terms and conditions in front of me and said it was. I was put on hold for a while and they said as I'd used their website in the last 12 months (June last year) to do a comparison I wasn't eligible (condition 6a).

    So no luck for me.

They also said I was on the cheapest policy and the guy even said he was going to see if he could switch to it because he has similar circumstances to me.
Policy is HIF GoldVital Hospital - costing me $51 a month at the moment with the rebate.

  • Done. Literally took about 5minutes on the phone - Customer ID no problems.. couldnt get close to my current policy (NIB policy from 2008).

  • +1

Cheers. Submitted claim. No confirmation email yet.

  • Thanks - thought I'd give it a go, the lady was lovely, quick and easy process. She's given me til tomorrow to decide which option I want to go but if I change to the new better deal I get a $350 card, if I stay with my current provider I get the $300. Can't lose.

  • Thankyou, I got one too. Older Bupa plan as well. :)

  • Thanks OP… Scored the $300! :)

  • +2

10 hours after posting this deal, Ozbargainers have collectively gained approximately $8400 in confirmed claims that I'm aware of.

    Well done everyone.

    • +2

I would say it's bit early as none received email yet.

      • At this stage, I'd say the glass is half full.

        • Yes, I agree.

    • Nothing is guarantee. no email anything at all yet since call up this afternoon. Can only hope if other dirty tricks not apply to us.

Only prove this is you get the $300 when you received in your hand from mail.

    • No, Well done OP! :)

  • Thumbs up rep. With no contracts within PHI you could move and go straight back anyway :)

    • Usually a cooling off period anyway
PS. Not affiliated nor representative, Just OB OP

      • No contract in any way shape or form, with anyone. So the whole thing is a cooling off if you like haha. You can move whenever you like, and take your waiting periods with you.

  • +1

Read through some iselect Facebook comments, there telling people it can take up to a week for a confirmation email to arrive, & told another person who was told he was eligible for the $300 now they need to confirm more details, I'm calling bs on this deal, imo most of us won't get the $300, read 9a & b terms & conditions, think oz bargain posters just got ozbargained & gave out all out details for free & we will receive a lifetime of spam emails/phone calls in the end lol

  • have Bupa TopHosp, nil excess and Gold Extras.
Advised HCF and Aust Unity combined was $50/month cheaper.
Then offered $350 for continuing to talk.
Managed to extract that they only have to beat on equivalent policies …NOT repeat NOT.. provide the same $ level of benefits within those policies..
Politely said goodbye after further pressure.

  • I qualified.
I have an older policy with another provider that they couldn't match. They tried hard to see if I qualified for other things (ex bank employee, current union member etc) none of which I qualified for.

  • Well, they didn't pull the TV ad from Channel 9 this morning, plus we've had one confirmed success so far today - but seems they must have had a sales meeting this morning with a more rigorous approach. 2 days left folks.

  • +1

    Great work, OP!
Couldn't match my Medibank policy which I took out less than a year ago.
Let's hope they come through with the goods!

  • Done - got my $300 and the nice lady on the phone suggested a cover they don't have that was $20 a month cheaper.

    • what was the cover she suggested?

  • seems like no one get the confirmation email yet huh? not even the op?

    • Nothing yet here. :-s Though their FB rep was quoting a week+ to get it.

    • True, I haven't received my confirmation email as yet - but it's only been 2 days and I can wait. (T&C's say payment by end of August.)
I wouldn't blame them for cross referencing everything before handing over the cash.
They raised the claim amount of the campaign from $60 earlier in the year to $300 - without thinking it through ?

      A) What good are my details apart from spamming.
      B) A publicly listed company reneging, James Hardie moving offshore comes to mind.
      C) They EXTENDED this promo - it's a numbers game, so must be of some value to iSelect.

How much does a TV ad cost to make and broadcast (add another $9,000 from this forum + all others) = Total marketing budget.

  • +1

It took ages, but I just successfully got it. The plan they had offered me was very similar to my existing one, but thanks to me paying quarterly my existing one ended up being less.

Thanks OP - another professional success :D

  • Hi all - not a down-vote on this, but just a note that this DOESN'T apply to restricted funds (such as Defence Health, who I am with at the moment). The operator was friendly and didn't push this too much, but I asked her to point out the specific clause in their T&Cs, which can be found here: http://iselectmedia.com/network-marketing/termsandconditions…

    1. “Eligible Persons” are defined as persons who:
      ….
      e. hold a current ‘Hospital’ or ’Hospital and Extras’ health insurance policy (excluding “Overseas Visitor
Cover”, “Extras only”, “Corporate policies” or membership of any restricted fund) (an “Eligible Policy”,
      with “Eligible Policies” having a corresponding meaning);
    • Why would it be a down vote. They have it clearly outlined in their terms and you are unlucky enough to not be able to comply with their terms.

I'm sure being with your Defence Health has more than covered a $300 gift card though over the years, am I right?

  • Woo! $300 card on the way. :)

  • Spoke to a very helpful guy and he prompted that it was worth a shot and was happy to give me the customer ID. They were technically able to beat my cover but the rebate on extras would be lower so in the long run he said it wouldn't be worth mine, or his, effort changing funds.
Now to sit back and wait for a possible $300 payday.
Thanks to the OP for getting us all on to this as I had not seen the advertisement on TV. Being that I use my private health regularly I was legitimately curious to see how my cover stacked up, but there's nothing that entices me to do things than a possibility of free money.

  • Thanks OP. The guy couldn't beat mine but wasn't confident I would be eligible for the gift card as I have a 'specialised cover' (ie a combined limit). I submitted it anyway.

  • +1

They didnt beat my Health.com.au Basic Hosp 65. Although I knew they wouldnt, I used to work for them :)

  • Guys also it is worth noting that no 2 PHI plans are the same. This leaves the term 'equivalent' very open to discussion! They might find 'similar', but just pick what is weakest on the plan they suggest and say it isn't as good as yours and that's what is most important to you and they can't argue.

  • Hmm, they sent a slightly cheaper plan but Excess is $500 vs my current $0.

  • Awesome. They couldn't get close to my 10 year old cover so submitted for the $300 card. Although I have a feeling things will go quiet/stall as long as possible to try and get out of sending the cards.

  • +1

I got the worst case scenario - smae price, different provider, massive increase in benefits.
Ive been with BUPA for 10 years on a product they havent offered for 5 years at least.
THANK YOU MITM, esp for the tip to have all my BUPA info open on the screen :D

    • Yeah mine was from the MBF era a long time before the merger. Which provider did they find for the same price with a massive increase in benefits compared with your old BUPA cover?

      • They put me on AHM (Medibank) for extras, and ANU for hospital.
I was on BUPA Family First, where you cant cherrypick hospital services like IVF, pregnancy, rehab, psych.
Nowadays you can go through the list and say what you do and dont want. Its an old MBF product that they no longer offer.
Like most people, we claim extras more than hosp, and extras are more competitive these days.
Im very happy with the outcome, many thanks to OP!

  • ^Excludes corporate offers and special deals - Damn.. Just called them and released that. :(
    On a corporate rate already.

spoke to iselect regarding getting no confirmation email, said should receive it in 5 business days from calling or no later then this friday, if you have not received it by friday call & they will send it manually, very interested to see how this goes down, to many people here being offered the $300 so have my doubts we will receive anything but time will tell..

    • +1

      Thanks mate for updates.

  • I was on $100 per month, and they got me down to $38 per month. Dam, I thought I could score $300 lol.

    • +1

Instead you have scored thousands? You should be very happy.

      • TBH, yes!! VERY!!!

So I contacted them on 5/5/15 - provided them with my details and they said they'd review the claim and come back to me.

Received a phone call today stating that they have reviewed my case (including listening to the recording of the phone call) and determined the consultant that answered my call initially and did the comparison didnt mark me as eligible and make the correct notes on my file, hence the wrong email.

I'd be contacting iselect if you havent received anything or have received an incorrect email as now (following my phone call with them) I've got a new email… as below:

        Hi x,

Congratulations! You have successfully registered to claim the $300 Eftpos Gift Card.

What you need to do now is to a copy of your most recent 'membership statement' from your health fund, reflecting the name of your policy and premium amount, to [email protected].

Note: Please make sure you respond from this email address and that your statement is provided in jpeg, tiff, png, pdf, bmp or gif format.

For any questions please contact us on 1800 207 005.

        • Thanks for this,

I also just contacted 13 19 20 and the operator sent me the 'iSelect Savings Promise eligible' email while I was speaking to him.

        • @rarrows:

No problems. I've provided my details as required to the email they designate, and also CC'd the consultant on the reply. He's replied back to me saying he's added me to the final list for the card now.

fingers crossed the $300 arrives at some point!

        • Thanks for heads up. and i also spoke with iselect CS and he sent me email while i was call. And now time to send my details.

        • @cniminc:current insurance detail sent and hot reply from csr requesting address so that they can send card.. Seems victory…

  • I got told they couldn't beat my NIB Policy and that I was eligible for the Gift Card.

So I filled it out, and still nothing. Here's hoping…

  • +1

No email, but calling them up they had all the details on file (and I was a confirmed recipient). The support guy has now re-emailed me it for me to send in further details & copy of policy.

Not too sure whether it's a glitch or they "forgot" to send the email, but I'd recommend everyone who hasn't got a response call them. (13 19 20)

  • Still didn't receive a email so called a again today, guy pulled up my account said I should have received it by now so he sent me the email like those above ^^, sent the info required now waiting game begins, suggest anyone that hasn't received the email call iselect Asap 131920 & explain you haven't received any confirmation yet..
