Hi,

My wife asked me to check if any good deal was going on the Nexus 6, after missing the JP Samsung S5 deal yesterday, and digging a little bit around the different Amazon websites, I found this new Lowest price for the Nexus 6 from Amazon.es: 512€

It is the French version of the phone (thus the "imported" in the Amazon title).
The Spanish version of the phone also sells for the same price: 512€

Please note, the deal is only available for the Blue color, the white being 34€ more expensive.

Once selectiong your Australian address at the checkout, Amazon will deduct GST (VAT).

Users have reported being charged $618 with a 28-degrees card.
Once added to my cart, its costs me $644 (with my Australian everyday credit card) to deliver it to the ACT. Not that bad of a deal if you compare it to what is available locally.

If you do have any experience with Google warranty on overseas stock, please share it in the comment section. Same thing, if you happen to find it cheaper, please let me know by leaving a comment.

Thanks!

    • How much did you get charged on your card? As show in your bank account?

I read each card has a different exchange rate, mine gave me a total of $644.

      • you didnt use a 28degree?

        • +1

The only card I have is my Mastercard from the Commonwealth bank.

I will look into your option!

        • Is that the only card OzB knows about?!

        • @Utopian: You mean there are other cards ?

        • -1

          @DJ: ME Bank 5%

        • -1

what do you thing about + 1 yr extended warranty from say Commonwealth bank's cards, is it worth paying a little bit more (provided if the extended warranty works on imported goods)?

        • +4

          @DJ:

Bankwest Zero Platinum is similar to 28 Degrees but has complimentary travel insurance.

        • @dazweeja:

          But which one is better?

        • +1

          @neonlight:

Both have no foreign transaction fees, extended warranty, price guarantee, etc. If the travel insurance has any appeal, I don't see why someone wouldn't prefer the Bankwest card (although there might be features of the 28 Degrees card that are more important to others). I switched to Bankwest just for that.

Wish my wife asked me that…

    • Happy wife, happy life I guess…

  • Is that a tablet in your pocket, or….?

    • It's a mobile phone.
      EDIT: A Smartphone.

  • I had a hard time deciding to buy this or note 4. I almost regret not choosing the nexus now.

    • why?

  • +3

Still wondering why Nexus turned into an expensive phablet after the successful N4 and N5.

    • Because the HTC One M9, Moto X, iPhone 6 Plus, Note 4, OnePlus One and LG G3 came out?

      • +4

I think what he wants to talk about is the pricing (the price is fairly steep compared to N4 and N5).

        • Crappy exchange rate and as things get bigger, they get more expensive.

        • @smileymiwo: Nexus 6 was expensive from the release (compared to N4 and N5, N5 were priced at AUD $449 from Google Store whereas Nexus 6 is priced at AUD $869 from Google Store right now). Even if you count in "Australian tax", N6 became fairly expensive compared to older models (even in US, I think that was general consensus on forums).

        • +2

@smileymiwo: I still don't get how phone/tablet prices scale. An 8in tab is cheaper than a 10in tab, but a 6in phone is more expensive than a 5in phone? Is the sweet spot 7in?

        • @AznMitch:

LG made the n4/5, and they tend to price their flagships low too compared to other manufactures. The previous Galaxy Nexus made from Samsung was expensive also when initially released.

If rumours are true that Huawei are making the next nexus phone, then I guess that will mean another mid range priced flagship hopefully. I don't really keep up with the news when it so far away from a new nexus, so things could have changed since I saw an article about that the other day.

I suppose the nexus 6 will continue to get cheaper over time, perhaps not for Australians if the $ keep depreciating though. :(

        • @Ronnnie: I've heard rumours about how LG really wanted to get Nexus 5 named as Nexus G, apparently Google refused it because of less market value(?) power(?) on the G brand than Galaxy brand. Can't remember what it exactly was.

I brought this up because I am getting the feeling that LG didn't have much control over the price as Samsung would've. Not complaining of course, if I can get something at cheaper price, it's all good for me. Nexus 4 and 5 were both incredibly well priced in terms of its hardware specs.

One thing that does make me slightly happy is, if Huawei manufactures a nexus, we might see more custom roms and more XDA activities on phones with kirin, which would definitely be an interesting thing to see.

        • Actually, I was talking about screen size. N4 is 4.7" and N5 is 4.95", both the usual size in their respective years (eg compared to the Galaxy S3 and S4).

Competing against the Nexus 6 were the 1+1 and LG G3 and iPhone 6 Plus, indeed much larger phones but all around 5.5". N6 went straight to 6", over 1cm in diagonal longer than its already sizable competition. To me it feels like the 6" size appeals to a completely demographic (phablets) than the N4 and N5 did. Indeed the Nexus range is made for showcasing Android, but the N6 is "too big" for regular folk who are tossing up between the Galaxy S5 or iPhone 6.

The N6's price is also significantly higher but it's understandable with such high-end specs. However, the N4 and N5 offered a cheaper alternative to the big flagships with almost comparable specs. It would be interesting to know how much each Nexus sold.

        • @ilikeradiohead: ? As per your own info, bigger models cost more.

        • +1

@Fobsessive: Sorry about getting your intention wrong, with more people complaining about the cost of these things more than the fact that it's a phablet, I automatically assumed that you'd be similar.

That being said, I personally think if they sold it at cheaper price, people would've loved it anyways despite the size. The virtue of Nexus almost became "bang for the buck" for with Nexus 7, 10, and Nexus 4, 5; the recent ones were fairly cheap compared to its competition.

I think with Nexus 5 being similarly specced to LG G2 in terms of hardware (SoC and screen mainly, though I've heard that you can feel that they've tried to reduce the cost on many areas like Camera), Nexus 6 was too expensive. Nexus 5 back then were fairly high specced as well, Snapdragon 800, FHD screen, Gorila Glass 3 etc. I personally think if the price was cheaper, everyone would've gone, "hell it's cheap, let's try it out". Though this would probably coincide with the population who looks at these smartphones as an expensive toy/or a development tool more than the general population.

Just my opinion on whole N6 and N5 stuff.

        • @Utopian: Ah, I was meant to say that a 10in tab is cheaper than a 6in phone too.

        • @ilikeradiohead: I figure it's the balance of large screen vs ease of design (easier/cheaper/better-options) for jamming-in components (less of them, too). Who knows.

        • @Utopian: Probably what you said + market demand.

People can live without a tablet but phone, you more than likely would need one, therefore you can charge higher price for them.

Though to some extent, I think it's harder to put the components into a smartphone than to a tablet. There is weight issues, size issues, design issues etc. Not to mention, some of the tablets that support 4G seems to be more expensive, so I think to some extent, there is issues with copyrights (on modems and yaddi yadda).

If you use a Citibank Everyday Debit card there are no fees on the exchange rates to different currencies. They also have pretty fair exchange rates. http://www.citibank.com.au/plus3/

If you can wait a month or two, the LG G4 was just announced today. It looks to be a killer phone and will probably release around this sort of price.

    • verapa honestly I'm really disappointed with this gen of Flagships. The S6 looks the best of the bunch, and it's too expensive for my liking. Hope the G4 lives up to the hype. :)

      • I'm guessing that the choice of Snapdragon 808, while also improving battery life, was so they could undercut the other flagships in price. We'll see.

Needing special cases to get QI charging is another cost saver. The Circle Cases look pretty good though.

        • I think we will have to wait to see the variants - e.g. plastic back might have wireless charging but leather won't? Also last year's G3 international version had wireless charging but I believe some American and Korean versions didn't.

        • I thought Snapdragon 808 was chosen because 810 had really massive throttling issues? (Which made HTC to use Helio x10 on their variant on M9, M9+ and LG and G4?)

        • @AznMitch:

Qualcomm says no, but that's to be expected:

          http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-chose-snapdragon-808-in-g…

        • @dazweeja: Yeah, I doubt Qualcomm would flat out say, "We messed up big time and that's why Samsung chose to supply all of its Galaxy S6 with a SoC which they weren't certain about (in terms of production level due to newer 14nm finFET), why HTC chose FHD over QHD on M9 and then used MediaTek chip for a QHD variant, and why LG chose Snapdragon 808 on their flagship."

  • How is the nexus 6 as compared to the Z2 ? that one is half the price as the Nexus6

    • +1

They're both hugely different in terms of screen and physical size.
Nexus 6 has the latest generation specs (incredible power and high screen resolution).

Z2 is more "normal" but still perfectly fast enough to the reasonable person.

Android is merely the OS. There are hundreds of modeĺs, from a stack of manufacturers, to suit ANY budget.

    • Where have you been all these years?

I sort of like him, he makes me use my neg by showing his Apple love in a way that a troll would do on a Android deal page. I feel like I've at least didn't waste all of my 5 negs available for today by not using any one of them.
