Best smartphone up to around $200

My 12 year old daughter has managed to lose my old iphone 4 she was using and if it doesn't turn up soon I will need to replace it. I don't want to go much over maybe $200 but there seems to be decent options around that level that will give her a decent screen, apps (instagram, basic games etc) and a camera. 4G would also be good.

The phones I am thinking about include the Kogan Agora, Moto G. I know Huwaei and xaomi also have phones in this price range.

All suggestions welcome!

  • $195 for a Nexus 4, if you can wait a month for it to arrive from Hong Kong! Not 4G though?

  • if your limit is $200, you may as well look into the 100-150 range. They cant possibly be that much of an upgrade and save the buck.

  • If your daughter is moving from iOS to another OS, Windows phones are alright choice as well. Decent hardware at reasonable price. Not sure about the apps though, not sure what apps you'd need that Windows phone wouldn't have.

  • Lumia 735

    Great phone for the price.

I have used windows, ios and android. Personally i prefer ios for tablet and windows for phone. Also Cortana is pretty good now.

  • Wasn't there some newly released low-end phones from LG? The LG Spirit for e.g

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G could be an option.

  • Thanks all. I was looking at the Xiaomi redmi 2, seems to have all the right kind of features at a good price and also decent reviews. Does anyone have any hands on experience with this phone?

    • I personally have a Xiaomi Mi4, which runs the same OS, Xiaomi devices are solid and do well for their price.

  • I think the lumia 735 is the best phone in this price range. Has a good camera, decent amoled screen and lag free use. Really shows how far cheaper phones have come. If you can afford more than $200, look into the zenfone 2.

    • If it was me I think the Lumia would be the one but she will want all the apps etc that her mates use.

      • What apps does your daughter use?

If snapchat is in the list, yeah, I doubt that will be in WP anytime soon. It'd probably be better if you share with us what apps your daughter use, just so that Windows Phone users can tell you whether it exists or not.

        • snapchat, instagram, ooovoo, whatsapp are a few. Then lots of kids games, apps that let you mess around with photos etc.

        • @Brianqpr: Yeah, go with Android or iOS. Snapchat will not be on WP for a long time (as far as I see)
