    Great find OP. For anyone in VIC, Gun Emporium have the Howa 1500 Sporter on sale from $499. Would probably be roughly the same price after dealer fees and delivery.

      and the guys at GE are great. shop there all the time, great after sales support as well. the only thing that pushes me toward the vanguard though is its guaranteed sub MOA. after firing a few rifles, i'm finding its pretty important.

      • Definately. I have an old series 1 sub-moa model vanguard in 243. Shoots as good now as the day I bought it (as long as I don't keep knocking the damn scope).

      Can I just say how much I LOVE my Howa 1500. Although mine is a .223 not .308 - Of all my firearms, it is consistently the most accurate. Best BANG for buck… And Pig. And Roo…

      • +1

        .243 is the minimum calibre for buck, :P

        actually I was very tempted to grab the vanguard 223… think it might be a bit to big for the area I hunt though given there are still a few houses around and the 22, does ok…

      Firearms are not a banned item.

      • -1

        ah, thought they always got deleted

      • -3

        they're arguably "Adult products" though. Not as dangerous as "Small high powered magnets"

        • +7

          nope, no they aren't, kids can use them, under the supervision of an adult as long as they follow the laws around them, you can even get junior licenses…
          its like banning posts on cars and car products because they are an adult product only…

          Better ban all the alcohol deals while you're at it.

          @wisc:

          I suspect that rather than criticising firearms, n0va is making the point that it's a bit strange that magnets and sex toys are banned on here and firearms are not…

        • +4

          The sex toys are banned from Ozbargain purely because Scotty (owner of the website and our Bargain Overlord) has said so, he wants Oz to be family friendly and completely SFW. So that's that…

          The small round magnet toys are banned because they are in fact banned by legislation, and cannot be imported to Aus. So no point posting them on Ozbargain because it could Ozbargain in a legal pickle.

          The guns are a-ok because Australia has strict gun regulations but does not outright ban them, you just need a firearm permit to use one.

          Not as dangerous as "Small high powered magnets"

          if you think about it with logic (rather than stupidity/emotion/OMG the children) this is actually a factual statement.

          legal firearms are surrounded in a lot of legislation and red tape, most (if not all) legal fire arms owners are excessively contentious of the laws and safe storage/use of them and thus the likelihood in australia (unlike the US who do not have such tight laws) of a firearm (let alone a loaded firearm) falling into the wrong hands let alone the hands of a child is extremely unlikely

          small magnets on the other hand are not under such strict control once in aus and the chances of a child getting hold of, swallowing and becoming extremely ill or dead is infinitely higher danger than a legal firearm in aus.

          there for magnets are far more dangerous than a legally owned firearm here in australia

        • well said Scrimshaw and nosdan.

          note, I didn't Neg N0va.

          just as an aside:
          I think there are two things happening with firearms ownership:

          1 some "rednecks/rouges" giving licensed shooters a bad name (its like saying all hoons represent all llicensed drivers)
          2 people are ill informed about actual rifle owners, most of the people I meet down the range, are the politest people I have meet. respect of the sport and skills required.

          I think its a bit harsh people pick it when they don't really understand it/haven't tried it.

          @wisc:

          It's not helped that for the unfamiliar, the only information they get on firearms comes from an ignorant and sensationalist local media who blatantly lie to them or the insanity of US gun crime/incidents.

          @redwolf:

          OHH, that's right, i saw a post that was about the one sunrise did, basically showing fully automatic assault rifles that are illegal in Australia and implying that these where the type of rifles people had.

          then also on the project, its no wonder the sheeple are so against them when they know nothing about them.

    Remington, Steyr… Counter-Strike Source classics!

    • Funny enough the Scout and 'AWP' come to about the CS price in Aus dollars.

  • My pick would be the 16" SS Rossi lever in .357 although 20" would be better imo.

    Thanks op :-)
