Been hearing this on the radio so looked it up and JB hi-fi has the Radio on sale, Dick Smith has it for the same price but I don't think they have the headphones in their stock. Took about three guys at JB hifi to finally give the bonus headset but they have to if in stock.

Been hearing this on the radio

Guess you don't need one then.

    • actually i lied, someone else heard it on the radio, too many ads for my liking. probably why, as far as I can tell, it hasnt been posted yet. but it doubles as a general speaker so that is good.

digital radio is awesome, no ads.

        • o rly? learn something new

Bollocks, they have some ad free stations that are sponsored but all the commercial stations are the same as FM with ads.

          @Maverick-au:

digital stations are add free. normal stations are broadcast as they are on normal radio, in digital.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Digital Radio is going to replace AM/FM in the long term. All AM/FM stations have Digital spectrum and one of the benefits of Digital was the ability to have more stations due to the way digital works and the spectrum available. This is just like the changeover to Digital TV where the stations broadcast on both Analog and Digital until the cutover but on Digital they had additional spectrum available so they have additional channels. The term to use is simulcast.

For some reason you think that Digital Radio has created FREE radio stations which is incorrect, there is community spectrum available but it still costs money to broadcast and there are some stations which are mostly ad free but these are run mostly by commercial stations.

David Jones have DAB Clock Radio XDRDS21BT for $129 but it doesnt look like they got the headphone MDRZX550BN in stock.

    http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/dab-clock-ra…

    • i saw this the other day in DSE and the headphones were shrink wrapped to the radio, thus they might not need to have the headphones in stock as a separate item, they might just count it as 1

Just bought it at Jb hifi bondi junction. Painless. They had the Sony POS for the offer attached.

It just scans at the cash register as $0 for the headphones when it's purchased together.

Thank you and Thank you OP, did you buy gift card to get 20% off coupon? maximum saving on gift card is $20.
They are having "Mother's Day" promotion until 10/05/2015, purchase at least $100 worth of gift card and receive 20% off coupon.
After 20% discount the price should come to $139.

  • david jones price matched their own website. city store had 1 left in stock in Sydney.

The radio is rubbish! Tried it out in store and it's was very had to use, sound was poor, and had issues getting local DAB channels!

Also, the bluetooth headphones are definitely not worth $199. Check out this Officeworks deal:

Sony just trying to clear out its crap & have enlisted JB to fo the dirty work!

So you tried it out inside a thick concrete shell with all the other equipment around causing interference and you judge it to be a poorly performing unit?

It's priced at £84.99 at Amazon UK and customers gave it 4.9 out of 5 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-XDR-DS21BT-Stereo-Alarm-Digital…

      Good reviews here - https://www.videopro.com.au/p-7155-sony-xdrds21bt-bluetooth-…

Maybe the problem is not with the product but the way that you "tested" it!

Officeworks have limited stock they are clearing out so why would you say they don't retail for $199 based on a clearance?

Amazon have these headphones for US $128.00 (list price is US $129.99) and they have a high rating of 4.1 out of 5.0 so clearly either those 32 customers are stupid or you have never used the headphones - http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRZX550BN-Bluetooth-Cancelling-H…

You do realise that all Sony authorised dealers are offering this as it's across Australia so as mentioned above DSE, Videopro, JB HiFi, David Jones, Myer, Sony Central and others are all "clearing out the crap" as you put it.

mate, no need to get so worked up! I was just giving some feedback! that's the whole point of posting replies to threads on this site.

If you love the radio so much, go ahead and buy it!

  • I noticed DJ Bondi Junction had the two items shrink wrapped together.

  • Some owners feedback-

The DAB quality is good, no issues in metro Sydney.

Its not the easiest device that I've ever owned or used but once its set up- its relative easy.

    The 2 alarms are convenient.
