  • basically, get like a $8000 worth solar panel, get the $8000 govt rebate
to tempt u more, since they are gunna make $8k anyway (probably inflated price due to govt rebate like with the insulation) they are giving you $1k worth of myer vouchers (which they bought at a discount probably cause bought in bulk and with the extra money from the inflated price of the panel they sell you).

    everybody wins except the government.

Not really we pay tax to the government!

      • +1 to this comment :)

    • doesn't that mean you get $1000 myer voucher for free?

  • This is only if you already have pre approval from govt and will change supplier to get the voucher. It doesnt state its available for people who want to sign up now.

Yep, this is only available to people who applied for the old $8000 rebate scheme (applications ended back in June 09) and received a letter saying they have qualified for it.

For those that have qualified, its a great deal, although the calculations Ive seen indicate a 1 KW system will only save around $300 a year.. still a good deal for free plus $1000 voucher.

I shopped around on my parents behalf, chose a company based on their really long warranties and sharp prices, and 2 weeks ago we had a 2.16 KW system installed on the Gold Coast.

The system rocks…. almost all day long their power meter spins BACKWARDS (which means the house is costing $0 to run at that time, plus selling excess power back to the power company)… and they have 3 fridges and a pool.

I think Energex are upgrading their meter next week which means all the excess power they sell back will earn them 50c per KW and they buy it back at night time for 17c. A 2.16 KW system is supposed to save them ~ $1200 off their power bill every year for the next 3 or 4 decades. Cha-ching !

  • Anyone know if there's going to be another rebate scheme coming up? I'd like to install solar in Paddington, Sydney.
