    Every insurance company would do the same. Don't think these guys are unique in trying to not pay. If there are T&C's, and there always are, and you don't fit into them, then expect the cover to not apply. Always check the PDS. If it was a stolen passport or something similar and they didn't look at his medical history he might have gotten through, but once it was medical and they looked at his history, he was stuffed.

    Even the most expensive insurers look to not pay if they can. If they didn't, you could expect to pay premiums well in excess of what they are now.

    EDIT: Personally, I've used Covermore and 1Cover, and only had to claim with Covermore, who were prompt and paid all medical bills when we were overseas.As another note, covermore were they travel insurance company who hired a plane to evacuate people covered by their policies from Nepal after the earthquake.

      I was with insureandgo and had a successful claim for lost iPhone (i guess i had business cover).
      if you think you have a claim, then read the PDS in detail first before submitting the claim. Then you can fit the "loss or damage" to their claim policy.
