  • Is the MechPro 80pc Tool Kit a good deal?

    • Average deal IMO. 'OK' tools in an 'OK' box designed for occasional light-duty use by a home handy-man. Nothing more, nothing less. Similar calibre of tool as supplied in the $12 K-Mart kits sold earlier this year.

      • I would have thought MechPro was much better quality than Kmart tools or Super Cheap Auto? Aren't Repco tools reasonably well regarded?

        • I did quite a lot of research when I was buying a tool set a few years ago and very quickly realised a lot of this stuff was the same just supplied in different configurations. Again, there's nothing wrong with it and you should be fine to use a set such as this for general repairs around the home or car but just don't expect it to perform as per a higher quality set. Keep in mind the fact that if a tool is going to fail it usually will at the worst possible moment while trying to fix something of critical importance.

I bought three of the $12 K-Mart sets earlier in the year as I like having 'sacrificial' tools at hand purposely to save my good quality stuff from being exposed to not-so-nice tasks & environments. For $12 they are excellent sets and I would've been happy to pay twice as much for them but not a lot more than that.

        • Repco have two tiers. Their repco branded tools are decent quality and carry lifetime warranty. Their budget line is mechpro which carries a shorter warranty. The difference is chalk and cheese.

        • @zed50:

I see…I think I'll still buy them once I find out what exactly is included in these - there is no listing on the website which is pretty poor.

It would be nice to know what socket sizes are included and spanner sizes.

I only need a reasonable set for occasional use around the home and car servicing twice a year etc.

  • +3

I have these - they lasted a month or two of decent use. Annoying thing is the fact the heads are so big, you'll find it very difficult fitting them onto things that aren't on an open plane.

The craftright $40 ones from bunnings are far superior, but 4x the price (and have been through a lot of torment).

  • Frankly I would wait for the ratchet spanners from Aldi.

  • Thanks for all the responses. Looks like I might pass on these. Wait for $12 K-Mart ones or buy something better.

    • Don't think you'll get a bargain like the K-Mart ones again sorry :) What did you want to use the tools for anyway?
