I think this is an Exynos chipset, not Qualcomm Snapdragon.
Yeap, Exynos 3 Quad 3470, it's not very fast either.
The supercheap Huawei Y550 has better processor scores than the SG5 Mini despite being clocked 200mhz slower, which seems to indicate the Exynos still lagging behind Qualcomm when it comes to IPC.
The reviews seem to indicate lag — most probably because the Touchwhiz customisations may be a bit too heavy for the CPU to handle or ROM being unoptimised.
This phone is actually worse than Galaxy S3 4G in terms of spec. Judging by the architecture, Cortex A7, I think it's behind what Huawei Y550 uses, Snapdragon 410 as well.
Yeah, its basically a Toyota Yaris dressed up in the shell of a Cadillac. Looks fast and modern but in fact quite frugal on the specs. That's Samsung for you… their lower end phones are usually not worth the money on release.
Still not worth the money at $299 though.
@scrimshaw: Pretty much. I think unless you wanna get it for the lollipop or the waterproof function, better to get a S3 4G (cheaper than this) or spend little bit more and get a S4 with Snapdragon 800. Just looking at Samsung of course, if we look at LG, G2, G Pro 2 etc would probably be around this price range? The list would go on.
Not to mention, I bet this phone wouldn't go anywhere further than lollipop (if this phone does get lollipop that is).
@Ronnnie: There is a model that uses Snapdragon 800, Galaxy S4 i9506. That's why I've specified it to S4 with Snapdragon 800. I've seen that model being mentioned several times on Ozbargain, I've seen it going for $430 ish, local stock (at least according to the website that was selling it). I was planning on getting that, but I ended up taking my brother's S4 Active (that was just taking up space).
@AznMitch: where did you see the i9506 for $430? I'm on the look out for a gs4 for a friend. Do we think sales will start happening for EOFY?
@kimba88: I have no clue, I think S5 deal is likely to happen, but S4, it might not happen or it may happen with like fairly small amount of stock since the model is fairly old.
Wonder why it says 5mp camera on the bulleted list when the rear camera is actually 8 mp.
Zenfone 2 looks way better value at this price point.

Good price for S5 Mini, BUT Zenfone 2 is way better value as Ronnnie suggested.
What's the deal with Telstra, seen a phone $20 cheaper other night, morning back up? don't they keep the prices low for long.
