  • Is this as good as, or better than the Logitech UE Boom?

    • +3

depends what music you listen too. It has really good sound at half the full volume. Check this review out too by clavinetjunkie, helped me make up my mind as he plays actual music if you can't get into a store to listen to it.

Got this with the X2 bonus late last year (the price has gone shot down since then!). This on is definitely a great speaker and the far better of the two (X2 sounds like a tin can compared with it). Better then Logitech UE? Not sure, has anyone done a comparison?

I have a weird BT speaker addiction.

X3 has excellent sound for this price, but doesn't go anywhere near as loud. If I wanted a little speaker for inside my study only, I'd prefer the X3 for sure. The X3 goes about as loud as the Mini Boom, maybe. (But the Mini Boom is a damn well designed speaker, in my opinion, and looks sexy as heck in orange & white.)

If your use case for a BT speaker includes going out for a picnic, or using it outside while doing yard work, you'll prefer the Boom.

      I wouldn't touch the X2 with a barge pole.

      • I was at a friends place and didn't mind listening to the Bose Soundlink Mini. I just ordered a few of the HP Roar in the HP deal a few days ago to put in individual rooms around my house ($17 each)… (http://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?…)

How would the Sony at this price compare to the HP Roar or the Bose Soundlink Mini?

        • Bose Soundlink mini is way beyond these two. It is way out of their league. I have the UE Boom and my brother got the Bose and both put it into the loudest setting, mine just ate the crispiness and bass of the BOSE Soundlink mini =(

      • @hugs
I hope this is not you! :P ;)

Damn, got this for $69 at the Sony store for using the $30 dollar discount code I got with my Sony camera. Could've saved 0.74 bucks.

    • +2

Plus the 2% cash back from the cashrewards.

      • I bought this 6 months ago for 95$, another one a few months back for $100 and then a third one for 80$.. All 3 times I thought it was great price (It was). Darn it!

        • +2

          Um, why so many?

      • Holy shit, that's a total of 2 bucks I've could've saved. I could've bought some DSE glitter batteries with that.

        • Haha those glitter batteries always come in handy too. Can never have too many!

    • Just in case you don't know: those discount card codes are reusable (I've heard some people being able to use the code in 10 separate purchases), so don't throw it away! My home is now full of Sony products…

  • Bought this in Jan 2015 for $148 with free SRS-X2, thought was a great price. Can't really imagine that it can drop so much in price in such a short time.

  • +1

    So very tempting!!

    • +3

Buy now, regret later. I got it's big brother the x5 and it's fantastic!

I can't see the price dropping any lower either.

      • I know ha! Just trying to invent a use to justify to the mrs.!! If I buy this now….it might jeopardise the soundbar purchase I've been eyeing for a while. Two different things I know….but try'n explain that to home minister!! :P

        • +1

I was looking for a soundbar awhile ago but ended up purchasing the Logitech z906 speakers instead.

They do an even better job as they disperse sound better. Well worth the ~$300 I paid at the time.

I love my x5 bluetooth speaker though; it's got great battery life, excellent bass and the bluetooth is fantastic!

        • @ShamelessBargains:
Good point, but I am so over wires now! The sound bar will be only for the living room though. The theatre (when it gets done) will get a proper home theatre.

  • How does this compare with HP Roar wireless speaker?

  • +1

I never needed speakers but after reading the reviews, thought it is a good product at a good price. Bought one, I am sure i can find some use somewhere for this. I am thinking about having these on the bedside table.

The problems of logging into OzBargain!!!

    • I couldn't agree with you more :)

    • Knew it! I'm not the only one :)

    • So I bit the bullet and bought it last night, picked up this morning. Boy is this thing great or what! Solid build, amazing sound for its size and purpose (well at least mine ayway). Highly recommended. Might be buying a few more for gifts!!

  • +2

Got one for $75 last month, seriously impressed at the sound the little thing puts out!

    • +1

It's a little pocket rocket for the price too! Hard to compare the soundlink mini when you can buy 4 Sony x3's for the same price.

  • can it be connected to TV?

  • Paid $118 for this a week ago using the Myer 15% off electrical. FFS

  • I bought one of these last month for the bedroom. Great sound for the price, but not loud. We only use it for quiet music in bed so it's perfect for that.

First thing read C&C thought its command and conquer meant to be click and collect LOL

    Getting real old

    • Command and Conquer Generals is such a quality game too haha

  • Nice, glad I didn't buy the UE Boom yesterday

  • Snaffled this one up!

    Cheers OP, good find!

  • Picked one up today. Great sound quality.

    • Agreed, I purchased the Sony over the Bose as the sound quality and bass are better in my opinion.

This was back in the days of $150 x3s and $200 x5s too haha

  • Man was i fighting for 2 moths now to make a call on this with the price dropping constantly. Picked one up today and the sound from such a small unit amazes! Great unit was going to buy the creative roar (http://au.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-roar) but the diff of $100 now made the decision easy.

    • I hope you won the fight.

      • Rather, which of the 2 moths won the fight?

  • wanted to the boom, but bugger it, this was half the price…thanks op!

    • It's an excellent speaker and I'm sure 2 x3's are better than only a single boom!

  • Picked up just then from Southland. Pretty good speakers with nice bass but probably not loud enough if you want to use it as outdoor speakers.

    • +1

Yeah probably want something more waterproof for outdoor use. For the money though, you can't beat the x3!

  • Speaker is great, though now I have discovered a new problem that I didn't have before.
Using the x3 with my LG Chromebase to watch Netflix, the dialogue is out of sync =(
Oh well, at least there is still a line-in I could use to fix that, though this problem seems to be widespread with bluetooth speakers/headphones.

  • Thanks, got one!

  • I picked mine up today … impressive little unit. Thought about purchasing the Bose Soundlink Mini … but this definitly does the trick for me - esp. at this price!

  • No longer available.

  • Does anyone know if this charges while it is turned on? The charge light seems to be go off when it is turned on. I don't mind if it is not actively charging, but providing enough juice to prevent it from dying.

    • +1

Yes it does charge whilst turned on. The charge light turns off and the other function lights turn on instead.

  • Mine was the last and the display model, looks like the battery is stuffed flashing after 30 Mins of playback, I'm guessing that's not normal?

    • +1

Have you fully charged the battery?

30 minutes battery life is definitely not normal.

      • Yeah it was fully charged, I let it keep playing for a while and eventually the battery light stopped flashing, strange, it probably needs a few cycles to calibrate? Will keep testing and see how I go :)

        • yeah give it a few cycles. Battery life is surprisingly good on these units. Hope it improves :)

        • +1

          @ShamelessBargains:

Thanks, I'm impressed by the sound quality that comes out of it!
