  • Picked up this TV on Friday for $336 (they couldn't match this price) instore. Have you got your TV yet, how do you find it?

The picture is OK and the sound OK. I think it'll be fine hooked up to a PC but general TV compared to my nothing special 2010 Sony Bravia… well there is a significant difference in quality.

Be interested to hear how you get on.

  • They need adjusting :) as is the picture sucks to put it bluntly, preferably grab some calibration images off the net, contrast is on zero on mine, turn to low NR, turn sharpening to zero, saturation down and start from there.
They can produce a nice smooth colour and sharp picture just not on their presets, but then I have tweaked every tv I have owned.

As a computer monitor it is great but took a few hours to get adjust to my satisfaction (I was almost ready to take it back before I realised contrast had to be set so low), it is putting out less light with a clearer picture than my old monitor.

EDIT: for pc use set aspect ratio to just scan as it gives 1:1 pixel mapping.

  • Just seen your post! I just wasted the last two hours following this guide http://lifehacker.com/5858625/how-to-calibrate-your-hdtv-and…

Black much better, but still i wasn't that happy. Saw your comment, dropped contrast and it does look better. Do you mind posting your exact settings?

These were my setting after calibration with the above guide which was difficult as i could not get the TV to even produce the blacks/white to start calibrating! In step 3. Setting brightness it would only flash white bars up to line 20 where it should flash up to 17. Is this an indication of the quality of the panel perhaps?

    Contrast - 63
    Brightness - 43
    Saturation - 26
    Sharpness - 0

    Normal temp

DNR low and just scan too :)

This is set up on my computer to suit video, not tv but should be a good starting point, I'm still tweaking but very minor changes now (I am fussy). I only tested the tv mode just to see that it worked.
      Each panel maybe different though…..

      Colour temp-medium
      contrast -8
      brightness -48
      saturation -36
      sharpness -0

I use extensions to allow me to darken chrome and email so I can leave the screen calibrated for video and games, other wise the settings would hurt your eyes at 1 meter with prolonged use.

      • Having gone through a movie and stopping and matching frames with a well calibrated monitor these were my final settings, and they look pretty good :)

        contrast 13
        brightness 48
        saturation 32
        sharpness 0

  • Thanks, I'll try those setting now.

Thanks for your settings as you've got me off to a good base. I'm still tweaking the settings but getting damm near a pretty good picture! For the money and 3yr warranty it's a decent buy.
