A review on the website says it actually has no 3.5mm jack - not a problem for most but maybe worth pointing out. Otherwise for a cheapy tv looks alright for the money considering it’s got chrome cast built in.

    • Is there a reason why this would be used?

      • +8

In the off chance someone has old speakers with no optical/hdmi, that still function (like Logitech z2300). Basically anything is an upgrade from the inbuilt speakers I’d bet.

        • +7

Or headphones via 3.5mm to avoid disturbing others

    • +3

      Ive got one on mine!

      • +1

Oh damn lol maybe I will get one of these tvs then. It’s not a huge deal breaker but these z2300 and z5500s just refuse to die. Would be a shame to stop using them.

        • +2

still check, its a 2025 model, mines 2024.
Cant be too far off though

Thank for information @MrrMagic and @ATreeFiddy.

  • Can we use foxtel now on this tv? It's not listed on the streaming apps section. I also assume we can use wireless headphones since it has Bluetooth does anyone know?

    • is there a foxtel app in the google appstore?

    • +13

Its android tv so anything you can get on the play store will work. If you are paying for foxtel I recommend getting a better tv because you are probably rich ahaha

      • +13

If they've got Foxtel, it's possible that they've got no money left to buy a decent TV.

        • That's true. I would rather get kayo or just watch antenna tv on a high quality tv than watch foxtel on this.

        • Nah….Foxtel is cheap these days especially if you're a sports fan. Only $40 for everything. It's every other stream service that's become a massive rip.

          https://imgur.com/gGcRRae

          • @jimbler: How did you get that deal? Just through an email?

            • @Just buy it: I used to just be a Foxtel now subscriber. They offered to move me to $40 for full Foxtel for free with an IQ5 box, so I did just over 12 months ago. There are people on Whirlpool signing up to the same deal now for $39. It's just called "Platinum 2024".

              https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3604w2l3?p=619#r12363

You need to keep trying until you get the right person on the phone. You can pretty much tell straight away if the person is prepared to budge or not. This will likely take a number of days and a lot of persistance, but it can be done if you get the right person. It also helps if you're directly with Foxtel and not Telstra. I was able to get the same deal for my brother about 6 months ago, but the lowest I got them down to then was $50 after a number of calls, and he was happy to pay that as he was paying over $130 at the time.

I've only got it for sport, so I'm not even interested in most of the stuff on there. I'd happily get rid of movies etc.. for a $10 decrease as I'll never watch one.

          • @jimbler: I spend $10 a month and get worldwide sports with an iptv subscription, foxtel is ridiculously expensive.

          • @jimbler: $40 is outrageous.

    • +1

Foxtel? i thought they closed down a while ago

  • this or Kogan 55' at same price?

    • +18

I’d get this just to not give money to Kogan

    • +6

This.. if it breaks down you can return it jb.. the kogan one you'll have to send back.. more headaches and hassles.

    • +1

looks like kogan one without Bluetooth and screen respond time slower than fflacon. 8.5mm vs 6.5mm

  • +1

Was eyeing off the 43in last week for daughters bday coming up when it was $349 but it jumped to $399 so put it off.
I'll bite on the 55in at this price.
Weird the 43in is still the same price

      • +7

Sounds like you own many TVs.

        • There exist only 5 TV in Kazakstan, we rent by hour. Great success!

      • +15

Thanks but I'll leave the parenting of my kids to me.

      • Fittingly, this is actually the dumbest comment on the interwebs today.

  • +2

Wwow. This is a ggood ddeal!

    • -4

      FFalcon? FFark no!

      • +1

I have one and is old and works well. A barbel hit the screen and still going

      • It's the budget brand of TCL, nothing wrong with them.

  • Anyone got one , can comment on quality..not expecting an LG OLED of course…

    • +1

I replaced a Soniq with this for my Reolink Security Camera System and its great. I have it running 24/7 and the quality is great. Upgrading the TV was a huge change in quality.

I've also got a 32" for the Caravan and very happy with it. Yeah, it is a little slower than my Samsung, but it does the job well.

    • +1

From what I’ve seen in store they have a surprisingly good picture, as do most TVs in general in 2025. Software/responsiveness and brightness are the two main things to watch out for these days. For example low end Samsung “Crystal” TVs have a nice enough picture but are dim as hell.

For $400 I think you’d be happy lol.

    • Ffalcon have great picture quality and reliability for the price. Its the budget brand of TCL and about on par with their non-MiniLED models. I have a 42" FFalcon that's about 6 years old and still going strong.

    • Cant speak to the latest model, but we bought 5 for work about 3 years ago, they are slow to operate with apps and interface, picture is ok, all have died except 1 that is still in the gym. All only had light use, maybe a few hrs per day. The one in the gym that is still going actually was used the most. I would personally never buy one of these cheap tvs after using them, having them die so early in life cycle.

  • Will this be good for playing games on a PS5?

    • +1

      Good enough.

  • Honestly the operating system in this is soooo slow! unless you plan on using it with your PS5 or Xbox then sure.

  • Falcon TV to go with my FG Falcon

    • worth more than the car!

  • What does it miss out on from TCL?

Upscaling and smooth motion engine ?
    Less ram ?

    • All TVs have upscaling and I'd disable smooth motion anyway. Their picture quality is about on par, unless you spend considerably more for TCL Mini LED. You don't miss much really, especially if you use an external box like Amazon Fire Stick.

  • -2

    Where made? China ?

    • +1

Made in Australia as its rebranded here with a sticker…

  • Can I get Steam Link on this?

  • Unless it's a to of the brand tv, ideally, just buy a Chromecast.
The hardware on most cheap TVs is weak, and makes the whole experience very frustrating. Not worth the hassle for how cheap a Chromecast is.

    • +4

Amazon fire stick on this and its a great cheap tv

    • +2

Funnily enough, I stopped using my fire stick 4k max after buying a cheap $300 65" Soniq.

With Stremio, some 4k DV videos were showing up as a blank image. Old tv was 1080p so never encountered that before.
The inbuilt doesn't have that issue, and is remarkably not a slow POS.

  • +2

I was trying to find a gift for someone I dislike and this will be perfect.

  • Need a 120hz deal fr

    • you wont find it at this price, lol

  • Falcon brand has been around for a long time now. Surely they're on par with LG and Samsung by now.

    • +1

      It's TCL's lower range line…

      • -6

lol, TCL is already the lower range. now you are going lower then that, eeeeek.

  • -1

Bought one last year. Only lasted about 1 and 1/2 months for me

    • +3

Welcome to OzB, so what was the warranty claim process like?

    • You should test your luck with BIGW brands AIWA or EKO. They might last 3 months instead.

  • Some time ago, I read an article stating all TVs used the panels from the same three, actual manufactures.

    Is this still truthful?

  • I've got a 55inch ffalcon. Bought used from gumtree about 4 -5 years ago. Still going strong in the living room. The old fflacons 'smart' interface isnt google, and is rubbish with no build in Chromecast. So I use a Chromecast with it.

  • -6

great price, but 60hz is horrible.

    • +2

Why? 50/60hz has been the standard for 70+ years.

      • yes, its old technology. we are up to 165hz now, and even higher on monitors. why buy old technology and new and better advancements are available.

i said this is a great price for a tv. this is exactly what i expect for this price. if i am going to buy 1 tv, i would pay more to at least get 100hz. massive difference when you watch sports, play video games, watch fast action movies, etc…

    • Budget TCL brand, isn’t going to offer features typically found on premium products. Even TCL entry level tvs are only 60hz. Consumers on a budget would rather save a few bucks than pay for a feature they don’t care about. For the consumers that do care, they can buy a more premium product for a considerably higher price.

      • -1

lol, you said the same thing in long form.
        great price.

  • +1

4.5% off at Bupa and you can enter the exact gift card amount

  • Picked up the Falcon 55" a couple months ago for $550 with a extended 3-year warranty. Honestly, pretty good value. The TV UI is a bit laggy, but I mostly use my PS5 so it doesn’t really matter. If you want smoother apps, just add a Fire Stick or Chromecast and you’re set.

Only thing I’d say is the brightness feels a bit low, but could just be my room since I’ve got big windows right next to it. Other than that, works well and does the job for the price.

  • Is this brand the new Soniq? Btw whatever happened to Soniq?

  • How would this compare to a 2010 full HD 42” lg plasma?
I watch maybe 6 movies a year and that’s it but I feel I’d appreciate better resolution for tge nature documentaries.

What’s the 2yr extended warranty like? Worth the price?

    • I also have an old plasma TV which is now a spare TV. You will appreciate the brightness of the modern day LCD TV. Also with 4K the picture quality is a leap ahead compared to FHD.

  • I have this tv in the bedroom. I agree with previous comments about the brightness not being the highest but still great for the price.

To make it more snappy I did the following

    1) Enabled developer options
    2) Turned all the animations to zero
    3) Enabled USB debugging
    4) installed wolf launcher apk
    5) installed ADB TV and disabled the crappy Google TV bloated launcher with all the crap Google pushes at you

Now the tv is nice and snappy and I even have my own wallpaper on wolf launcher.

Research how to do the above and you will be rewarded
