Good price, but I'll wait for Lumia 940.

Me too but September-October last I heard. My 920 mic is playing up though :-( Might have to buy something else in the meantime.

      • My 920's camera stoped, has a chip on the screen, im getting the overheating cpu eating battery issue, my OIS jumps around when my camera works 1% of the time.

Had to buy something until the end of the year when the flagships arrive and this seems to be on par (enough) with the 920's camera (except this doesn't have OIS)

My contract is expiring next month. I wanted to get 1530, 940 or 1030. I guess I will get android this time and WP some other time.

Picked up the 640xl yesterday as I wanted a new phone with a bigger screen, also wanted a change from my HTC One M7. This is my first windows phone and so far I'm very impressed, especially at this price point. Happy to answer any questions about the device.

    • How's the display and does it lag if u play games?

      • +2

No lag experienced from playing the following games candy crush, sonic dash and metal slug 3. I'll be using the phone mostly for email and messaging, so gaming wasn't really a priority for me. From what I've read online there shouldn't be any lag with the current game offerings on windows store.

        • Thanks mate

        • @stockastics:

Only games like GTA: SA will lag, but only if you turn up the detail. That game requires more power on full settings than any WP currently offers. Most games are designed for the lowest capable devices, so the adreno 305 is powerful enough.

    • i have never used a win phone. how is the display? i have been using a nexus 5 for 1.5 years and waiting for a new N5 or N6 to come out this year. however, i do want to try a completely new phone/system ie. a win phone.

usually FHD is the bottom line for a Android phone for me.

If you like the customisation aspect of android alot I'd chance you wouldn't like windows phone that much. I bought a 530 and used it for a few months but I didn't like the fact you couldn't change alot of things and Internet Explorer wasn't always reliable. However the user interface is slick and smooth, given the equivalent hardware WP will be a lot more consistent UI wise. Really depends on your priorities imo

  • Thanks, just bought one for my wife - good timing, before the EOFY. Interestingly the 15% discount still seems to work even if I choose to have it delivered for $6.95, which I did. I hope it goes through.

Don't forgot an extra $25 cashback from Microsoft when activating office 365!

    https://www.microsoft.com.au/officecashback/

    • Thanks so much for sharing this. It makes the deal even better!

    • No worries !

    • Thanks, will do.

    • Office 365 is already free for 1 yr that comes wit the phone - right?

CAn you claim $25 cashback even if you did NOT purchase Office 365?

      • read somewhere in ozb that it is eligible if you buy a mobile phone / lapop or tablet - so cashback should be eligible.

      • This does apply, its in the dropdown to specifically chose 640/640xl from the products you purchased to get the cashback.

  • is there free office 365 and is it dual sim ?

    • +1

The dual sim is grey import only, this is Australian stock.

  • Whats the opinion on 830 vs 640xl?

  • Just purchased a 640 Black and it went through at $223.34 with click and collect coupon added. Initially when I selected a store that was showing in stock, it then showed not in stock after I tried to purchase through paypal. I wasn't sure if the payment had been taken so I changed the store and then the payment success screen appeared after that. Great deal, especially with added $25 cash back from Microsoft. Will post first impressions once I collect the phone in store through the week.

  • Hows the camera on this phone and what phones can it's camera be compared to?

  • Im not sure I can make the jump after 7 years of android.
To test out I'm considering just getting the 640, $179 Optus one, hoping to factor in $25 MS cash back and $36 Netflix value(we already subscribe, so will use the free 3mth) before committing to the more awesome models

  • Virgin Mobile have it outright, unlocked for $228 (might have to get a $20 sim, not sure) and it comes with a free Bluetooth speaker.

    https://www.virginmobile.com.au/Shop/Lumia-640

    • Rep (chat support) says you can just buy the phone but i do not see it on their website how.

      • Look like $228 is only for existing customer.
$248 for new customer including $20 sim

FREE bluetooth speaker priced at $59 (they claimed)

    • Just in orange?

      • Orange comes with an interchangeable black case. I think all speakers are orange though :-)

  • I ended up getting a Lumia 830 for $280 from Officeworks thanks to this Dick Smith offer.

    • ok got it - it includes beat by 5% from office works.

      • Yes - ended up being just under $280, but the OW staff were saying that their policy excludes coupon offers - then did it anyway. Note that the 830 doesnt seem to come with an Office365 license like the 640 models. Happy with the phone so far.
