  • Is this going to be the new standard price for this phone now?

  • How does it compare with the 630? Thanks.

"The first smartphone designed specifically for selfies"…..$#@# my life.

    • thanks Microsoft you bastards

    • Dealbreaker!

  • Is this 4G? …Whats the cheapest 4G network phone?

    • +2

      huawei y550 for around $50ish,

      • -6

        Huawei quality is bad

        • +1

Replied by my Huawei Y550 40$ quad core 1.2, 1G ram. LOL

        • @lgacb08:

So if you're not normal and you're not hard working then you will be targeted by the Chinese government? I guess you're targeted then.. ;)

        • +1

@lgacb08: I'll be more concerned with the NSA to be honest, after snowden revealed that they pretty much spy on everyone, even US citizens.

        • @tkd8558: Bought a Huawei couple years ago, the first battery recharge…it wouldn't recharge.
Took it back, swapped it… second one couldn't charge either.

I'm as ecstatic as you that you can actually post on the internet with your Huawei, but CoreJava is right in that there are still issues.

        • @Jared17: yeah, but NSA and the US government don't frame you for tax evasion when you campaign against abortion. Looks like we have quite a lot of anarchist illusionists who never live in a communist state and think it's heaven.

        • +1

@lgacb08: nah they just lock you up at Guantanamo bay on bogus terror charges with no trial

        • @Jared17: mate, if you get to Afghanistan and happen to hold a gun from some newly acquired friend to get a feel of it and post a photo of it on Twitter then you deserve that for your own stupidity. and at least they admit that they lock you up there.

Y550 has been virtually impossible to find Australia wide for a month or two now. Stock depleted, not getting in new stock.

  • looks like pretty darn good value! are windows phones cheaper than similar spec'd android phones?

  • You can get Lumia 640 from optus for $179. Has a bigger screen and released in this year.

    • +2

The rest of the specs are tit for tat though between the two… same cpu, same ram, same resolution .. one has potentially better rear camera, the other definitely better front. Personally I prefer the 735 as its a little bit smaller.

    • Is it unlocked?

If needs to unlock, Optus charge $80 to unlock if less than 6 months and $25 if more than 6 months as per optus website

      • -1

        Title says unlocked

        • +1

The comment is about a Lumia 640 from Optus though… which is locked.

Officially I am sure I read it was $80 to unlock, but people were getting those other Lumia unlocked for free from Optus the other week so no idea what the actual cost is.

        • @Pobman: sorry my bad.

      • Can get Vodafone unlocked for $199

Wife has one. absolutely out-fkn-standing! Good Find!

    • +1

I know, but what about the phone? :p

  • Hmmm Storage is 8 gb. OS may take 2.0. Then you are left with 2gb.???

  • son has one - great battery life he reckons

2 weeks ago I put an ad up on ozb wanting to sell mine after one day of use.. Hated it.. Well would you believe this phone is seriously growing on me, have continued to persevere and after getting used to the windows platform I can just about recommend the experience. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen. I got mine at a similar price point and tbh it is an amazing piece of tech for the money.

Can't get Hardly Normal the price match as I have 25$ HN voucher :D

HN said TGG has product in stock online only :(

    • +1

if they PM it, they give you a once off code so you can't use that voucher anyway

      • Thanks for your info, mate. I have never got PM from HN so wasn't aware that :)

  • +1

Personally I'd prefer this phone over 640. Better cameras and better screen. The rest of specs are similar except for band 28 support on the 640.

  • If I try searching for stock in post code 2000 I get this message: "No store can be found within 200 km of the search radius"

  • Is it worth to spend the extra $145 for 830…?

    • +1

Apart from the Camera and form factor they're basically the same phone, so it really depends how much you want the better camera - which is a fair bit better - and which phone you like the look of. Is it worth double the price? Probably not.

  • couldnt find anywhere close in stock…
$2 delivery doesnt sound too bad…

  • Nice find OP.

Bought one as a re-introduction into Windows Phone after I flogged off my old HTC 8X.
I'm keen to see how Windows 10 runs on it.

  • I don't need that, I don't need that…but that price :((

    • +2

      Better get three

  • This needs 735 upvotes. Can't wait for Windows 10

    • will this phone get Windows 10?

      • -1

I'd be surprised if it didn't.

      • Definitely will get Windows 10.

      • Any phone with Windows Phone 8 will receive the Windows 10 upgrade.

  • +2

I've never used a windows phone. Would this be appropriate as a gift for my mother in terms of ease of use, readability, skype/whatsapp?

    • +3

Absolutely. It's a great OS - and hopefully the app catalogue gets better with the introduction of Windows 10. Supposedly easier to make apps for it by copying what you've done for iOS and Android.

    • +2

We got the 530 as an introduction to the smartphone world and she is thrilled to bits with it. Got this one for the screen and to get her onto selfies with the grandkids.

    • +4

I bought a Windows Phone (Lumia 635) as a first smartphone for my Dad recently, and it's great for non-smartphone people. I set the homescreen up to basically just have 4 huge tiles (phone, message, email, contacts), set the font size to large, and he's good to go.

    • Thanks guys. It all sounds promising, looking forward to receiving it!

  • +1

I'm not sure if I wanted this but I needed it anyway.

    • I'm not sure if I needed this but I wanted it so badly :(

  • why is everyone crazy about this phone? is it a MS's flagship phone?

    • I thought MS's flagship has 20+ MP camera.

  • Managed GG to price beat it for $148 when Officeworks deal was on. Good that now they have reduced it officially. Awesome phone for the price. Totally loving it and using it even more than my primary phone (HTC M8) :)

    • Now's the Nokia for audio? Loud ring and speaker?

      • Not super loud like some of dual speaker phones these days (e.g. M8). But still reasonably loud. It has a speaker on bottom right in the back panel (which is curved, so not an issue when lying flat).

  • I bought- and quickly got rid of- a 630 this month, purely because whatever passes for a browser on a windows phone is a pos. It crashed more than anything since Android 2.3.3, which was unacceptable back in the day, let alone years later.

    • +3

Hmmm… I have had my 1520 for quite a few months now. Can't say that the IE browser is crashing frequently at all. I actually use it quite a lot as the 6 inch FHD screen is fantastic for surfing.

Our company web site which I think runs a fair bit on ?JAVA didn't load properly for a little while. There is an alternative browser on the store called UCBrowser which loaded it fine. However, recently (whether due my updating regularly of the OS), everything loads well, quick and I can't remember a crash for at least 6 months.

FYI, I came from android and before the 1520, had a 825 which I still keep as a spare. Nokia hardware is fantastic value for money although with the recent deals on the LG G3 phones, this Android also look good.

One thing I have noted with MS is that both phones I have had so far have been good with OS updating. Can't say the same for Android phones as you rely on the phone manufacturer to provide updates, unless you root the phone which I have never bothered to do.

      Cheers.

  • Bought this one last week, LOVE it!! Much better than my previous iphone.

  • This deal may also combine with Microsoft $25 cash back for Office 365?
    https://www.microsoft.com.au/officecashback/
    https://www.microsoft.com.au/officecashback/terms.html

    T&C's state:-
1.Purchase Microsoft Office 365 Home or Microsoft Office 365 Personal retail product or any retail computer device or smartphone that comes with Microsoft Office 365 Personal or Home (Product) from an eligible Australian retailer with a current Australian Business Number (ABN) or Microsoft Store online (microsoftstore.com.au) between 21st May 2015 and 5th July 2015

smartphone that comes with Microsoft Office 365 - Check
from an eligible Australian retailer - Check

    • I think this will not apply to 735 as it is not in the list of "Product Purchased" field for us to choose from on the Claim form at https://www.microsoft.com.au/officecashback/

      • I think you are right, it only mentions the 640 or 640XL smartphones.

  • Awesome, thanks OP - I've ordered one!

  • Almost bought one to replace my aging 820 but checked that it does not support glance so I hold back.

  • +1

bought this about 6 months ago. Micro sd card integrates seamlessly for extra storage, battery lasts ages and charges super quick. Whats more the battery lasts ages when you are actually doing things - like browsing. My nexus 4 would just about make it through the day if i was just taking calls but would crap out after 30-40 minutes of browsing. This just seems to keep on going. Windows os takes some getting used to but I only really miss one thing that was available on android - which is the constant monitoring of where you've been.

    • constant monitoring of where you've been.

      Have you tried Sensie

      • nope! but I will. thanks! I spent ages searching for something like this and gave up in the end

  • Can't be ordered anymore! OZBARGAINED!!! I had to change the delivery address on my order but they said I had to wait until I got an email from the store that will be fulfilling the order. I only got the email saying that the order was being processed. Did anyone get the second email? Otherwise I have a feeling the order might be cancelled!

  • Thanks OP. Picked one up in Geelong this afternoon. Rippa. Sometimes it's good to be out of the capitals!

  • Alright, I'm convinced to give windows phone a go. Anyone know where else I can get one of these for a reasonable price?

  • Well then look what just turned up. Fairly impressed - 2 bucks delivery and couriered to the door in half a day

    • nice!!!! did you get any confirmation from good guys before receiving it?

      • Yeah one email came through on ordering from Good Guys and another (from some courier) today to say it had been picked up from their warehouse for delivery

  • Just received a call from my nearest store saying out of stock, with a 1 week wait to order more if I was OK with it, and received an "allocated to store for processing" email shortly after.

    • I got a similar response from my allocated store. 1 week wait. Hopefully it can be back ordered given I think it's a discontinued model…

  • I just got a call from my local saying they have none in stock except for the display model if I wanted that. I said only if its discounted which they wouldn't do because its on sale. Apparently they will call me tomorrow and I expect a wait.

  • Looks like my local store is out of stock as well:
    "Dear Customer,

In regards to your web order, the item is not in stock at the moment.
We will place an order for you and send it out a soon as possible."

  • So if they can still order in stock why did they pull the listing? While something is going good they should roll with it.
