$62 - 2kg Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans (Usually $78) Free Shipping - Wicked Beans

60

Hi OzBargain

We've just taken delivery of a delicious Ugandan bean, so I figured it's time to run another deal.

Our current variety is a Ugandan Kisoro, with a heavy chocolate foretaste, giving way to honey and maple syrup. It has a low acidity and smooth creamy mouthfeel, going best as a milk-based espresso.

  • Tried your previous 500g offering. The shipping took just over a week and the coffee is not bad - not an expert here but felt it had a rather clean chocolatey aftertaste which was easy on the palate when drunk straight espresso or traditional mac method. would definitely try this Ugandan batch or any of your future offerings if on a similar smaller bag promotion offering. pls keep them coming :)

    • Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep the smaller batches in mind when planning future deals. Cheers!

  • I bought a 1kg bag recently as well and was quite impressed with the beans

    • Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy them :)

  • What made you decide to call your business "Wicked" Beans? I love coffee but not sure if it entices me to order.

  • Well was just looking for some coffee, never tried your beans before, so have ordered.
    Good timing, thank you

  • What's the roast date?

    • Our coffee is roasted fresh to order, so any orders placed today will be roasted tonight and shipped out tomorrow

  • Hi Rep, Any chance you can do a deal on 1KG lot or Free delivery to sweeten it a little. 2KG is just a little much for our household.

    • Hey, there seems to be a bit of demand for a deal on the smaller batches. I definitely be keeping this in mind for future deals. Thanks

Yeah for 2kg we need to be better than $25/kg to be considered a bargain.

I'm noticing all of the usual suspects have crept up to around $30/kg.

I'm not feeling the love anymore.

Forget the love - just think about the "foretaste".

      • I didn't think they were mutually exclusive ;)

        • -1

Indeed - both whimsical notions. Very much in the imagination of the believer - a bit like "heavy chocolate…. giving way to honey and maple syrup".

Ya' couldn't make it up - except you blokes (not exclusively WB) have.

          And the seduction continues………

        • @jackspratt:
Adding nothing of any value to the deal.
          Trying way to hard.

        • @King Tightarse:

Without trying too hard, perhaps you could let us know what value there is to add?

A few more flowery adjectives perhaps?

    • I agree. 2kg of great quality coffee started off at $50, then $52, then $55 and now $62.

I get the feeling that some coffee vendors are taking our discerning pallettes for granted and ramping up prices. I now buy from local importer and roaster for $45 for 2kg.

      • Hey guys, I'm going to jump in here to clear some things up.

I don't think it's fair to say we're "Taking for granted and ramping up prices". The thing with coffee beans is the vast majority of them in Australia are imported, and highly seasonal, which makes them particularly susceptible to changes in the foreign exchange rate.

To compare, the AUD today is worth about 0.76 USD, when this time last year it was at parity. This means in a year, we've had a 25% drop in the value of the Australian dollar. This equates to an approximate 25% increase in importing costs, which looks to be in line with what coffee used to cost vs what it costs today.

Personally, I'm trying to find a balance between providing a very good quality of coffee while still keeping prices reasonable. I don't want to start using a lower quality bean just because costs are going up. I think our customers do appreciate that, as you can see from the feedback from people who have actually bought from us.

I hope this helps clear up some fears that we in the coffee business are trying to take advantage of coffee drinkers. We really are trying to provide a good quality coffee for the best price we can.

        • Just in case you were wondering, there are some people who get the point you're making.

I do get tired of this site at times. So many people who just want cheaper and cheaper and nit pick on every little point.

We used to import Hawaiian Kona last year but as you say the change in exchange rate drove up the product cost and the shipping.

We have a local roaster who charges within two dollars a kilo of your price. So for what it's worth, I think your pricing is on the button for the quality you're getting.

Bang for buck is better than cheap and nasty every time

  • from people who have actually bought from us.

I was one of these people you speak of, I've been buying beans off ozbargain ever sine they first started showing up on here.

All I'm saying is, this is ozbargain, not coffeesnobs, so there should be some kind of bargain element to these deals. All I'm seeing are prices going up and up.

I'm back to supermarket beans for $14/kg because I've been priced out of the market. I'd happily spend $25/kg for fresh roasted delivered like it used to be. Until then meh, I can still get my hit for half the price at slightly less flavor.

Hey Stumo, I get where you're coming from, and this is good feedback.

I'll try to source a cheaper variety (that still meets my standards) to run alongside the ones I usually offer. If I can find something nice that hits that price point I'll be happy to offer it. I'll keep you posted
