Birthday Gift for a year old boy

Any recommendation / bargain around for gift ( preferably a toy) for 1st bday of cousin brother's son ( under $50 mark)?

  • Is he walking yet?

Push along toys such as a wooden truck, lawnmower or vacuum cleaner. It's a fun thing to do regardless of whether they are walking or not.

    case of beer.

parents get the beer, kid gets the box. everyone is happy.

but seriously, go to a whitegoods shop. ask for a cardboard box from a fridge. cut out a door and a window. give the kid the "playhouse". buy the parents booze. everyone is happy.

  • Leap Frog toys are usually a hit. :)

Shares - Buy $100 of penny stocks and hope for the best. 18 years time it could be their first car

    • I suggest Enron.

Baby shoes like Nike's or Chuck Taylors might work.

Is there a reason for the brands? Genuine question. I wear Chucks myself but I'm fully grown, so a pair of shoes lasts a long time. How much are branded shoes for kids/babies? Is it even worthwhile buying such things for a rapidly growing human (even as a gift?) when you could be more practical and offer the child a longer lasting, more rewarding gift?

OP - how about some Lego? The kid is only turning 1, but they don't necessarily have to use the toys right now. They could use the Lego in due time. I don't have kids, don't really know much about kids tbh, but I love thinking about what I'd give my kids at different ages (especially at such young ages). Toys that inspire creativity and learning on their own… toys that stand the test of time.. have a self directed educational component.. that stuff would be pretty cool. I grew up without Lego. Wish I had some.

Anyway. They have Lego Duplo for super young kids, no?

      • No particular reason for the brands other than the baby versions look cute. You're right in that the gift could definitely be more practical and last longer, but I was just going off my personal experience. My reasoning was that the kid will probably get plenty of toys from their family and friends anyway.
