  • AliExpress, and you're linking to a selling with "No feedback score".

    This is not a deal.

    • -2

      you always have aliexpress protection.
also each seller has to start from a point where there is no feedback. if each customer will not buy from no feedback seller, non of them will have any feedback!

      • +3

There are guidelines against posting deals about ebay deals by dealers with no reputation on Ozbargain, more specifically, the seller has to be a top rated seller or has to have an online store domain. I personally think similar logic applies here. It's not like eBay and Paypal doesn't have Paypal dispute and protection system. If the seller has no reputation, it's more likely to be, no offence, a problem than a deal in my opinion.

    • Is AliExpress not a reliable source? Is it an eBay style thing?

    • We've used AliExpress for several smaller items & low-total orders, without loss or disappointment.
The app makes buying easy, albeit via [stored] credit card… 4-digit PIN to pay.

Making it easy to buy (via app) is a compettitive edge.

The only issue I have, at this stage, is: Can't, AFAIK, order serveral items from 1 vendor, ie, they each travel in a small, separate package. This has to make cost higher than it would be, ie, if they could "car-pool" in one box.

      PS:

      • IMO, AU businesses would be very WISE to make their apps work like this one. (Are you LISTENING, DSE?)
    • @Everyone

You're effectively purchasing from someone from China, with no trade history. It's likely that it's either not going to come, or it's going to not work/be what it is intended to be. Then you need to work your way through the return policy after a month of waiting for an item to come in the mail then ship it back to China yourself.

    • AliExpress is your insurance.

Oh, How to find this Deal in AliExpress app? TIA.

  • seller name is a concern "fu yu"
    seems super dodgy, stay away

  • +1

Sounds a bit too good to be true.

  • I don't know much about flashes, I can see these are a lot cheaper than a Canon Speedlite but can someone tell me in simple terms why they are so much cheaper? Are there things one does that the other doesn't? Are they both automatically controlled etc.? I read somewhere that the Canon ones adjust the flash setting automatically depending on the lens and whether you have zoomed in and out but other ones don't. Is that correct?

    • +1

The review says that the zoom function doesnt work properly.
Its more the fact that these are knock offs of the real canon branded ones, that make them cheap.
For 99% of people this $80 flash will be far more appropriate compared to the $700 canon one.
I feel like the weather sealing of the Yn might not be anywhere as good as the Canon either

      • Thanks :)

      • Well, we know that anyone who makes good in China (except, maybe, Chinese designers?) must release/license their IP to the Chinese manufacturer.

In one sense, this is good for both parties:

        • designers need to stay creative ('cause they can't compete against a mode of their product that costs much less than theirs); &

        • of course, Chinese maker saves any design costs (except maybe packaging or making a mod to differentiate the OEM's item from their "spin-off" (copy?)

I don't know if or how close this deal item may or may not match the Canon original.
(Maybe Canon didn't handover Zoom firmware, etc.?)

        • +1

Well, we know that anyone who makes good in China (except, maybe, Chinese designers?) must release/license their IP to the Chinese manufacturer.

We do? Does that mean Apple released their IP to chinese manufacturers?

        • @eug: 'dunno.

Maybe Apple refused to play the game.

They may have just a bit more bargaining clout than a small design co. ;-)

        • @eug: Pretty hard to make a phone if you don't have the designs to it.

        • @IVI: nvm, I thought Foxconn factories would be located in Taiwan (as they are a Taiwanese company), turns out they are located in Shenzhen.

        • @IVI:

They may have just a bit more bargaining clout than a small design co. ;-)

Like… Canon? Weren't we talking about Canon? :)

        • @airzone:

Pretty hard to make a phone if you don't have the designs to it.

I hope you realize that is very, very different to "release/license IP".

        • @eug: IP in china is pretty sketchy, they have hardly any protections or reservations against its theft, let alone any repercussions against those who do steal or reproduce proprietary/licensed/trademarked/patented gear. Why do you think its so easy to get fakes of anything you want from china?

Aliexpress is hardly equivalent to ebay, they're still piecing it together to compete on world stage but is no where near as regulated as ebay. You're buying directly from merchants aliexpress is just the medium you buy it through much like ebay but i'd treat it like gumtree, be willing to lose your money if you do if you dont see the item in your hands first! Most merchants will be fine but there will always be ones that take your money and laugh.

        • @sigh:

          against its theft

And that's my point. You're not required to "release/licence your IP" to the chinese manufacturer as mentioned by IVI. It could get stolen though.

You're buying directly from merchants aliexpress is just the medium you buy it through much like ebay

AliExpress are also an escrow service. The sellers don't see the money until you confirm you've received the goods and are satisfied, or an extendable time period lapses. eBay doesn't do that.

        • @eug: paypal does/can, which is owned by ebay.

        • @sigh: Paypal does not withhold payment from sellers until you tell them you have received the goods in satisfactory condition.

    • because it doesn't have a canon logo on it.
most of them don't have TTL (automatic control) but some models do I believe, and some have wireless triggering, some don't etc

      • Wonderful… So, does anybody have any experience with THIS product? Does it have wireless triggering? Is it compatible with Panasonic "socket/mounts" for a flash, in compact family?

        TIA

        • The page mentions optical triggering, so that's one way. I have a PocketWizard but for quick indoor shoots I find optical triggers a lot more convenient.

  • +1

I'm interested, but I would be worried about receiving a fake. Are there any guides to identifying a fake?

    • The YN is already a fake Canon flash …

      • +1

YN is a popular cheap brand, so there's bound to be fakes. Just like XiaoMi power banks.

  • The price is too good to be true. Buyers beware.

    • I'm not so sure, actually…

Since AliEpress (a "front-end" for wholesale buyers' Alibaba, I think (Am I right?)
they may well be offering low prices (or encouraging their vendors to do so), ie,
to help build a reputation of "value for money"

Prices we paid for items we bought seemed lower than we'd seen elsewhere.

Think of them as an Aldi, facing off Wollies & Coles.

But we KNOW Aldi's reputation… both from Germany & (if you don't yet have an Aldi nearby) elsewhere in AU.

AliExpress must push-into our consciousness gently & warmly… eg, with low prices & a kickass app.
With a bit of luck, they might make DSE, etc. drop prices, eg, by going to eStores.

      • I think that's a wrong comparison. We all know Woolies and Coles hold duopoly and therefore they can control the price of items.
On the other hand, I compare this particular seller from Aliexpress price to BHPhoto and ebay sellers who don't hold monopoly of the item and provide a very competitive price.

I'm curious though, how good is Aliexpress protection? Is it as good as ebay/paypal?

        • I'm curious though, how good is Aliexpress protection? Is it as good as ebay/paypal?

I'm curious too. In one way it's better - AliExpress holds the payment in escrow until you confirm you've received the item, or a certain time period has passed (40ish days IIRC, can be extended). That discourages sellers from running away with your money. But how well it works in reality, I'm not sure!

        • @eug: Escrow has always been the way for unknowns to trade.

I think AliExpress just made it easy to buy, ie, by handling the escrow functions transparently.

Test it by buying something small that seems to be misdescribed, eg, a Battery Box for UV5R that gets listed w/ BOTH:

          • 3800 mAh AND
          • AA batteries

The hint is that its priced at ~ US$ 5 ot 6, but if you find it doesn't contain cells that make it work as a 3800 mAh radio battery [box], you may have a ground for a challenge/rerund negotiation.

See what happens… Be selective, find a listing that has conflicting claims, that must be wrong, & test 'em. YMMV.

          PS Play fair…

  • I bought an item from a seller with good ratings but the item didn't work, I lodged a a case against the buyer and got my money back. I think their protection works fine if you lodge a claim within 40 days.

    • +4

Yongnuo is a great brand, can confirm from previous experience. They make quality replicas of Canon products, especially flashes. Even large companies in USA such as B&H, companies in Australia support Yongnuo.

    • +1

Agreed and was about to say the exact same. Most of my camera accessory gears are Yongnuo brands and havnt had an issue with any.

My only concern is why these are so cheap on this seller.. I've never bought from AliExpress. I bought mine from Yongnuo's ebay website when it first came out for $200 USD. I know these have also had a price cut, not long ago, down to $130 USD nowadays.

    • +1

B&H call it as "…-RT" (AliExpress's vendor supplies a manual for same "…-RT" model)
      B&H's price ~ US$ 124 + S&H

  • +1

For those worried about the Yongnuo brand, it's actually quite well established.

I've got two of their remote flashes and a transmitter controller, and they're all rock solid.

Whether or not this Aliexpress shop is legit or not is another matter entirely..

    • AliExpress wouldn't be wise to take on or keep shoody merchants…
from the look & feel of their app, alone (as well as performance,
so far, with our small orders), I speculate that they're 1st-rate,
      & competitive.

If our retailers don't lift their games, so they can drop their
prices, I'd expect more retail jobs in AU will go away.

Let's discuss this again, say, in 4-5 years, after we've all had
a chance to assess AliExpress's performance over that period.

  • +2

Youngnuo flashes are fantastic value… Make sure you get one with the features you require.

There are plenty of reviews online for the various models.

NB - I'm not making any judgement on the price, item or seller in this particular deal.

  • I own 2 of these units (as well as 2 original Canon 600). The built quality is pretty good on them but you can't compare it to the Canon. For most people the unit will do it and it is a great cheap alternative to the original Canon flash (BUT: it rips of the intellectual property of Canon in my opinion … we would not post illegal movie downloads as bargains … this one is a very dark grey zone).

The price in this deal is exceptional … but it is definitely risky … :-) Too good to be true? The whole range of this seller has a 50% discount at the moment … some really great deals in there. I personally will not order anything as it just looks either like a scam or a pricing error …

    • See my earlier post (above) on trade-offs of using cheap Chinese manufacturers & IP rights "sharing"…

Nobody is "forced" (except by competitive forces) to make product in China… those who choose to pay a non-monetary price for their decisions… the exclusivity of access to their IP. :-/

      • +1

Lol, they aren't sharing it…. they are stealing it. Sort of different.
I highly doubt that you lose IP because you manufactured it in China.

There are plenty of items manufactured outside of china, but they have fakes in China. How do you explain that?

If that was true, then there would be Fake iPhones using REAL IOS not skinned Android.

Its hard to say what is a copy of who, its like clothing and fashion accessories, you copy me, I copy you. Endless viscious cycle

  • Fingers crossed, hope item arrives as described. Otherwise will have to knock the door of buyers protection. Couldn't resist at that price.

    • I just received an email stating my order had been cancelled due to seller not shipping in time. How did you or any one else go? Full refund 7-10 days.

      • same message I received. Looks like it was a scam.

  • HOW TO FIND THIS DEAL ON AliExpress's app.

HELP! I'd like to save the ~ $8, & It Runs out SOON!!!

    • You could just order through your mobile browser, while on mobile browser you could choose to switch to aliexpress app. You need to have app installed though. It worked for me. Hope that helps.

      Edit:
      Easier way,

Go to your app. Click on QR code icon to scan code. That takes you straight to the product.

      • First, I have app installed on an Android tab.

Where do you see QR or scan code(s)…?

My mobile browser price is a bit -higher- than what deal writer said is available via app.

STILL Can't find deal item in app.

        • Next to the the search bar, you will see icon like squares

        • @msmhw: Got it in the end, thanks; clicked on "Cheaper by mobile" (or similar). This kind of thing makes the app all the more impressive, IMO.

Anyway, we got the 60% Off (rather than web site's 55% Off pricing (Even the S&H cost dropped a bit, going via the app.)

PS The review vid mentioned a factory/maker recall of these flashes… has anyone worked out Why? If due to an issue, has it been fixed? (I hope these units aren't from the pre-fixed batch…?)

        • @IVI: YN has to stop the production due to a problem in the flash (it died by itself). but if you check the video description you will notice YN back to production in 2014

YN600s are back in production as of 12/8/14

        • @msmhw: Thanks. 'good to know it.

Of course, this doesn't guarantee that one or more unrepairable batches of problematic units didn't find their way to an unscrupulous [would-be] vendor, to offer cheap.

I trust the maker warrants all items we may buy from AliExpress vendors…?

  • Fingers Crossed, Just ordered some Instax Film off them. The price is too good to be true. but it's worth a try!

  • just an update to people who bought it,
I just got a message from the seller

    hi

BUT may be this is a trick. if you open a dispute now to apply for the shipping refund, you CANT open another dispute in case if you DID NOT receive the item.

so I suggest NOT open dispute yet, you should wait until you receive the item and happy with it (use it for couple of days) then if everything good open a dispute for the shipping fees.

    • @msmhw: how did you go with your order. I received an email from Aliexpress stating my order had been cancelled due to seller not shipping in time.

I have not received any email from seller regarding shipping.

      • Aliexpress gives the sellers a specific time to ship the item if they didn't meet with this time its automatically the order will be canceled and refund the money. However you can extend this time if you log in in your order.

In my case I noticed the time is expiring so I contacted the seller that if you could post the item before the order will be canceled. Couple of hours later he posted my order and gave me tracking number. This morning I got a message from the seller regards the free shipping.
So I hope everything go well

        • Not sure if the seller can still reinstate the order in my case as the order was cancelled by Aliexpress due to seller not processing my order. I will be happy if they can.

        • @OBAR: try and ask the seller, the can change the price before you make the payment.
If they agree, he will ask you to place an order then change the price for you. After you are happy with the new price pay for it.

          I did this before

        • @msmhw:

Thanks. I have requested. Seller asked me to reorder. My bank charged me international transaction fee of $2.58 on top of the amount i paid to aliexpress. How does the refund works? Looks like bank fees are our loss every time make payments in foreign currency. What was your experience?

        • @OBAR: as an ozbargainer, you should have one of these cards that's they don't charge any international fees and give a good exchange rate (like 28 degree master card).

Aliexpresss will refund you within couple of days but for the fees, it's depend on your bank. Before I knew about these cards, once I had the same problem bought something from overseas and been charged with international fees, then the seller refund me my money due to a problem in the item. I spoke with the bank and explain to them that I have been refunded for that intersection, they were happy to refund me the fees.
