      you often do pay for a SIM if you start with companies with Vodafone and Virgin etc. So OP is legit to claim that on post

      The Sim is free. You don't have to top up.

      I'm not saying it's great but, there are a few uses for free sims if you have the gear.

      eg Backup for one of your own, more useful sims, mini data card

      So the sim itself is a free item; though it's not the real point of the bargain according to the posting above
