$156 here, free click & collect

Or am I missing something here?

    Also here at Futu

Same price, same click & collect

At $156 this thing seems like a good price, not so at $252

    • I think the one in this deal controls bluetooth and lets you use your android as a remote. Not completely sure but.

      • … but what?

        • +2

..use your android as a remote but I'm not completely sure.

          I failed at English.

      • Ok seems you're right, 2 different p/ns:
        PN 915-000249 - Harmony Ultimate One - $156
PN 915-000210 - Harmony Ultimate - The 1 in the OP - Has wifi, can control Xbox/PS3 etc

        • +1

In any case I have the $156 one and I think I would prefer the older types with physical buttons. The touch screen is nice but for day to day use just grabbing the remote without having to look at it is much better.

        • @daveaus:

I had a Logitech Harmony once, but I just prefer being a bit simpler now lol most of the gear is Samsung - So 1 remote for TV/Bluray/HT, then 1 for the WDTV, and the Xbox Media remote (which also controls the TV if I need to)

          I'm a simple man lol

        • +2

Same here, Ive had multiple Harmony remotes and having the common stuff on physical buttons is flat out better because you dont need to look at what you're doing, you can do it all from feel. Things like volume really are affected by this

The OP item includes a IR blaster base station. The handheld remote communicates with the base via RF or can send IR signals itself. Good if your AV gear is in cabinet or another room.

The one you linked is just the handheld remote.

    • Different products.

This post is "Harmony Ultimate" and yours are "Harmony Ultimate One". The "Ultimate One" has LESS features then the ultimate, see:

      http://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/harmony-ultimate (This post)
      and
      http://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/harmony-ultimate-one (Your links)

Go to the specifications tab, the one here does flat out more stuff because it has IR blasers, so can be controlled by more then the controller itself.

    • Seems they have different varieties.. Another variant is
      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tv-video-accessories/logitech-ha…

  • Sheehs Logitech have it as RRP at $489.95
    http://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/harmony-ultimate

    • Logitech RRP has always been crazy on every product forever, generally you pay 50% or less of their RRP if you shop around.

  • If you want to save another ~$20, buy the Harmony Ultimate One ($129) and Harmony Smart Control ($99) from Dick Smith instead. These can be paired to give the same functions/features as the Ultimate.

With the latest firmware update for the hub you also get the latest Harmony Home functionality. Reports are the PS4 is (finally!) working through Bluetooth with the latest update too.

    • That's what I did less another $40 using $20 of $99 codes. Hasn't been any stock in Melb for ages…think it's discontinued.

What Home functionality is added with the latest firmware?

      • Wireless lights, thermostats, window shades, home automation hubs, IFTTT, etc. All detailed here

        • Thanks for the link…wasn't aware this had been released.

          IFTTT integration FTW!

  • +1

Yeah, @chrisishere so makes today's deal pretty good (almost half price!). I don't think many retailers sell it at the full RRP though.

I tried a few of the earlier Harmony remotes - the type that are just a remote and you setup with the computer. Always hard to setup and never really worked very well. There was always a button on the original remotes you wanted. Also you had to hold the remote pointing at your devices for ages so all commands would get to them.

Then I got the one in this post which is miles better. The remote sends the command to the base station (kinda small oval thing), which then sends the commands to all your devices. It has a couple of extra infrared senders too so you can put them out to the side to be sure to get all your devices get the commands (or in a cupboard). Heaps better than previous Harmonys.

Yes this remote rocks. Much easier to program and with the harmony hub, very flexible.

My one remote controls my tv, avr, htpc and kodi (xbmc).

I recently added the smart keyboard which is very useful.

I'm surprised people still use this type of device, since smartphones, apps, & home automation units are available cheaply.

I like Harmony remotes. I've used them for well over 10 years. So I read about the new hub.

But even Aldi sold a home automation 2 weeks ago that seems to do most of the functions. For $80 you got a hub that sends RF (<30m) & IR (line of sight), 4 RF controlled power points - run from Android/ios app, plus a remote for the power points.

Hub is taught IR & RF codes from the remotes, programmed via the app. Macros in the app then turn on devices in the morning, or set up the home cinema system for a movie with appropriate lighting, aircon on, etc.

With an internet connection, you can control the setup anywhere with Internet. Can turn on aircon when your phone gets close to home.

Controls all my AV, AirCon, some power points, etc. My Harmony remotes have been retired.

I mean if bargain basement Aldi sells this gear… there will be better setups.

    Just a thought.

    • I find Aldi stuff a bit of a hit and miss at times, though probably just my luck of the draw. Upside, they're stuff is cheap, downside, if you want to expand the setup, requires them to have it on sale again at Aldi when the stock has run out.

I used to review their PVRs & was contacted to work for their main manufacturer. I would never recommend Aldi electronics. Some rise to the level of average, while many are just landfill candidates. Putting Aldi electronics in the same deal as quality Harmony remotes is almost heresy.

But am impressed with this unit for control of devices I normally use a Harmony for. The macros create a similar experience to the approach taken in Harmony remotes. Press 1 button to set up everything you need for a task like watch a movie.

As I said, other manufacturers will supply better product, but for a home automation system that controls your many devices, it's not bad.

Expansion should not rely on their system, as the hub learns the IR & RF control signals for new devices. (A pack of 4 RF power points with remote cost $25.)

    • Wanted to get that Aldi kit to muck around with but there was no stock at my local (Richmond VIC) :-(

      • I only picked mine up a few days ago. Good for the price. A bit of fun.

Can operate devices from a different room, as long as the hub is in the room you want control of the device (for IR). Otherwise can control power points around the house from any room.

System requires a home WiFi (not necessarily connected to the internet), so I pressed an old smart phone (no SIM) into service as tethered WiFi.

Just received this message from an Aldi shopper I met at my Brisbane store 2 nights back
"Aldi have new stock of smart power points this morning"
That was the store with stock of the automation hubs.
        Oh happy days :-)

        • Yep sounds like fun. Might try my luck at another Aldi.

        • Piles of remote controlled power points, automation hub, etc in local Brisbane Aldi tonight.

        • @myfeetarehappy: Got one…now all I need is some time.

        • @myfeetarehappy:
Have fun, when you finally get around to it.

First step is to download app, power up hub, make sure WiFi network is on, enter WiFi name & password in app, connect.

Then the fun begins. (I found a hub reset was necessary to connect to WiFi network.)

        • @brucefromaustralia: Bruce have you managed to get the timer feature to work?

        • @myfeetarehappy:
          The timer in the app?
          I never tried.

Like a lot of toys, I played with it a few days, got bored with it, now its waiting to be returned. Same fate with my 2 Harmony remotes, in a drawer.

Rarely used the switches. Am more used to the electroncs remotes so always grabbed them rather than unlock phone, open app, wait to connect, select device, use.

I must delete the app as it is consuming power in the background.

          Enjoy your toy :-)
