'Eurolab' Induction Cooktop (1 Plate) $31.65 Posted @ Deals Direct

550

I just came across this deal. A induction hotplate, the kind you plug into the wall and can move around at will. It is allegedly 2000w, has 112 reviews and is rated 4.5/5 stars consistently!

I thought 'that's cheap' and an eBay search confirmed this, they are usually $45 or so. What makes this deal amazing? It's $31.65, approximately $15 off AND comes with free shipping!!!

Can't beat that!

Pay special attention to the cookware it can work with though! Not recommended for those with pacemakers/metal implants.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just had confirmation 'SOLD OUT'. Thanks guys and girls!

  • Thanks great deal

  • Thank might buy one to take to the Philippines says 220-240 volts so should be ok I guess.

    • Yeah Philippines use should be fine. They use the same volts as us just different plug.

I always bring my electronics over there. All you need is just a converter plug (AU > PH).

  • just bought one

I've read the cheap ones tend to have limited power control. The nob might go from 1 to 100%, but in reality may only have off, 50% and 100% as modes of heating. At this price though, its just a quibble. Great deal

9 power levels to choose from :)

      • -2

That doesn't contradict his point at all. These cheap induction plates just cycle full power on/off to get those 'power levels'. Which means they are excellent at burning shit.

        • Weird…

          4.5/5 star reviews from about 114 users…

Yeah, sounds like it burns shit…

        • Tried actually using one? Yet to burn anything, nor ruin anything from slow-cooked scrambled eggs, salted caramel sauce (requires good temp control for the butter/sugar melt phase then a gentle simmer to reduce the cream).

I suggest reading the manual before place a pot of water on the cooker and experimenting with the different levels to confirm what each setting's effective energy delivery pattern is.

For example, a pot of water will demonstrate what is the slowest setting and typically how long the element cycles on and off for.

eg these units set to 300W will cycle every on every few seconds for about 3-5 seconds (gently) to maintain a temp.

The "60 degree" setting appears to be a slightly higher temp. Yet to whack a thermo in to test. Also noted there is a trim pot on the circuit board that would probably allow adjusting.

In the centre of the circle (underneath) is a temp sensor and some thermo paste. Likely some variation in how accurate this is.

    • +2

That's true. I got a Kogan one that has 4 power settings and 4 temperature settings, but in practice it's hard to get steady control.

      • +3

These cheap induction cookers will have power levels of 1000w to 2000w anything under 1000w will just cycle the machine on and off at different rates.

Kogan, Avancer, Eurolab or whatever they are all make in the same factory turn them over they all have the same underside.

  • awesome deal, purchased a similar one about 4 months ago for $45.
    working a treat.

  • Does (should?) this have any appeal to someone with gas in the kitchen already?

    • +11

It's not like the gas problem is going to go away by itself. I hear charcoal is good for treating gas.

      • +5

We have an induction cooktop, yet we still have problems with gas in our kitchen whenever my dad is cooking!

    • +5

Maybe if your gas stovetop is as crappy as the one we have.. burners have two settings, 'nowhere near enough' and 'enough to burn the teflon off our pans' :/

      • +2

sounds just like every burner during my 'rental' times.

      • +1

Teflon off pan? That is a setting my stove really need and really lacking. Imagine the steak you get out of that

        • +2

Yeah with my grill pan I make steaks/grilled chicken that people make excuses to come by for. But for anything with any degree of precision it's just awful. Same goes for the oven, depending on your rack position you either have "burnt to a crisp but still raw in the middle" or "thawed.. kinda".

Sucks we can't replace it :/ not that it's a rental but there are complicated family members who make life hell. read: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158649

@Bonsaichop: Hmmm not really an issue I've noticed before although it should be noted I'm a person who would rather avoid cooking most of the time :p …

… apparently some people like gas because it provides "instant" temprature control compared to a electric heating element which takes some time to increase or lower temprature.

        • +1

          @Diji1:

Oh I prefer gas.. when it works! But if you're not the main cook and your gas works well i'd just stick to that.

        • +2

@Diji1: Induction also provides this, but even more efficiently

  • Cant seem to add to cart ?

    • +1

Fark, its gone. People buy everything here so fast and resell on ebay.

      • having trouble with this too,

it still says "In Stock" though

  • i cant seem to add it either

  • +1

    THANKUJUNE

    Extra 10% off.

  • Thanks OP. Awesome find. Bought one to replace my Portable Butane Gas Stove. Great for those asian style hot pots.

  • +1

still cant add it to my cart so can't save 10%. Loosing patience!

    • +2

In my first attempt, it went all the way to Paypal payment screen but then there was an error.

In subsequent attempts, I can no longer add it to my cart. Using my iphone, I see that a SOLD OUT indicator has appeared.

  • +1

jesus christ it's gone.!!! damn it

  • I have been trying for 20 mins ….each time I press add to cart it just refreshes the page. I also can't see a sold out sign anywhere but have decided that I have wasted too much time already on trying to get some piece of probably useless junk that I will never use from an equally useless company that can't be arsed making their website work! haha…rant rant!

    • It's actually one of the most useful pieces of equipment you can own ironically. I couldn't live without a cooktop and an oven.

  • Give it a couple of hours (or tomorrow) for them to re-check stock/order levels. Who knows?

But as far as I'm aware, it's out of stock. Same browser/computer allowed me to add it to cart this morning. Now? Nothing… so I'd say it's been OZBARGAINED!!!

    Thanks everyone!

Can anyone recommend an alternative to this?

I think I just missed out by a few minutes about an hour ago.

    • Researched these a few months ago. I decided when I do purchase one, it won't be this model. There are reviews online of this and similar models - where the plastic touchpad buttons are out in the open, where I vaguely recall they soon get damaged!? There's another one - often on ebay - easy to find, since I think there's only about 3 types. This one, another single, and a double. The other single is more expensive, but the glass goes right over the buttons, protecting them. From what - I forget - heat maybe?

They have this similar induction cooker sell for $58.95. What are the actual differences between these two except the brand name and its dearer?

    http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/5-star-chef-induction-cooktop-…

  • +1

Also I'm pretty sure the free shipping from Deals Direct didn't include my area of South West WA.

    $8.95 shipping.

I found the 5-Star-Chef and Euro Chef on ebay. Plenty of them with free shipping for $47.95

Might have to go for one of those.

Too late for most, but when my induction Cooktop went I borrowed one of these from a relative, and what can I say, it's perfect. No troubles at all, was better than my built in induction Cooktop before it went. Used it for a few months and the kettle that sometimes skips on the built in worked flawlessly. I would have considered getting one for emergencies but since I have moved my new induction Cooktop has been very good.

One thing I don't get is why one of these is 30 bucks but you struggle to find a decent induction Cooktop for under a grand. We are just getting shafted in this country

  • +1

Does anyone have experience with this one? http://www.avancer.com.au/portable-multifunction-induction-c…
Looks good and has more power. They have free shipping at the moment.

    • +1

I use the previous model everyday it's great. One flat surface with touch controls makes it easy to clean and it survives pots boiling over which I have done many times, because liquid just runs over the edge onto the bench instead of the underside of the unit then you just wipe the top. the touch controls sometimes get activated by water that splashes out of the pot but it's not really an issue compared to the ease of cleaning.

I use it mainly to with a pressure cooker and to boil water.

I don't know about the 2200w claim on their website being the unit controls and manual state 2000w max and my watt meter reads 1800w

these Induction cookers are all made in the same factory so pick the one that has the best design for you.

One thing to note is all these induction cookers don't really have a low setting they just cycle power on and off at 1000w so you can't hold a simmer of lower you just get boiling water for 2 seconds then 10 seconds off. You will have to adjust your cooking style accordingly. Or buy a $1000 induction plate.

I had no problems returning a bullet blender to Avancer for a full refund, they are pretty good to deal with.

      • I disagree after testing (at least this unit) re cycling at 1000 W. It is much more controlled than that.

Sufficient to keep a low simmer.

Can be tested practically. Pot of water and test the various modes. There is no "boiling water for x seconds then y seconds off".

    • I think that's the one I refer to above - where the glass covers the buttons.

    • I just bought one. They seem to be much better and worth the extra money. Guess I'll find out soon.
Couldn't find much info on them.

  • Guys, do you think one of these would be good to carry around when travelling? I've thought of using one in motels without a kitchen, but then if they have a smoke alarm, I'm stuffed.

Anyone tried using this in a motel?

    • Depends on what you want to do. That Avancer one above is really slim would be good to travel with.

If you cooked in a pressure cooker you wouldn't even smell out the motel. boiling eggs wouldn't make smoke cooking a soup or stew pasta sauce wouldn't make smoke. Pan frying a steak would make smoke. pan frying a steak in a tiny pan the size of the steak would make less smoke because the smoke is mainly from fat spitting and burning on the empty part of the pan and the induction cooker will make a smaller hot spot in a cast iron pan anyway.

You could totally cook with this in motels but you would have to think about it. If I were a road warrior staying in random motels I would take an induction cooker pressure cooker sous-vide stick and my blowtorch and I could cook anything I wanted without setting off smoke alarms or stinking out the place. you could get away with just the first two.

    Mine was "Faulty but fixable".

Acquired mine via eBay some weeks ago. Great, very versatile. A bargain at $45 delivered so go hunting on ebay if out of stock here.

Recently started smelt burning insulation type smells, but only on high wattage settings.

Tore down (easy job, no tamper screws/labels) to find the problem (and a simple fix if you are competent dealing with a soldering iron).

The bracket with a screwed hole that joins one of the leads from the induction coil to the circuit board had overheated. Cause was a loose screw causing arcing.

Resoldered due heat damage and tightened up the screw for the connector.

Note on temp control, the lowest setting is the one that shows "300 watts" as the alternate lowest setting of 60 degrees appears to be a little higher.

(there are various modes that then display power level as either degrees or watts).
