    1080p Mini Car Event Recorder

How many people in Australia own a Mini ???

    • +1

      1080…

    • pesky bee!

    • you have a cute car jv, i always thought you had something like this

    • Damn. I needed one for the Goggomobil (not the Dart).

      • (not the Dart)

They always think it's the Dart…

  • I have always wanted to know how these work in terms of storage space. Does it auto write over older video? Do you have to format the card everytime it gets full?

    • +1

It should overwrite when full. My current car cam continually loops and I don't own this model so can't really say.
Some car cams are know to have issues when they get full and you have to format to start again.

      • cool. thanks!

        • I just noticed that it does say (loop recording)in the features.

    • It overwrites the oldest file whewn full (That's the "loop recording" feature)

  • Here's a YouTube vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUR29dnWfeo

The 1080p looks upscaled. At 0:58, you can't read the street sign that's ~8m directly in front of the camera.

    • It seems to flicker every 30 secs or so.

      • It could be due to the camera, or memory card/memory buffer, the timing isn't consistent.
Still, "a" dashcam is better than "no" dashcam - but they do vary considerably for image quality, low-light performance, actual resolution and frame-rate.

    • Not a single speed sign or number plate in that test…

      • There are a few street signs, the one at 0:58 is about 8m directly in front. At 1:33 there is one on the left that is only a few metres away. Those signs should be clearly legible with a decent camera.

Haven't been able to find any other examples.

  • I always recommend a 32gig and class 10 card.
With a 4 gig I was only getting a few hours recording time.

  • This is the same dash cam I am currently using.

  • Jaycar's way overpriced. You'll get something just as good on ebay for <$50

      • But this is ozbargain.. You can buy 2 for that price on ebay and have change for a coffee.

      • Or $20.90 from here less 5% for first time buyers.
