51

Hi, noticed two Swann Security Cams deals on Jb website.

Swann ADS-450 Wi-Fi Network Camera @ $49
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/connected-home/s…

And Swann SWADS-440IPC Wi-Fi Network IP Camera @ $69
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/connected-home/s…

Old models and you have to pay for delivery but I still think they are good deals.

Last deal for Ads-450 Swann Camera was last year Nov 2014 and you had to get newsletter voucher then. Now you don't need to.

These seem to be identical in video quality to the kogan/foscam cameras that are normally around $50.

Assuming that is true, this isn't a bargain and even if it was I hope you guys realise these are 100% impossible to identify faces with, they are only useful to know that someone was there.

  • The resolution is VGA (640 x 480)

I have a TP Link IP camera that was redeemed with the D9 Archer modem. Simply put, VGA res is fine so long as you're monitoring a confined space (like a small room, where the subject will be in close proximity of the camera) because you simply can't make out people's faces at a distance.

At this price point you can sort of expect a cheap-as-chips optics sensor and polycarb lens, the quality of which will be reminiscent of a 2005 era mobile phone recording.

Reviews are pretty bad on Amazon

    • Thanks for the comment. Also got one with the D9 and still trying to work out what to do with it

  • I bought the Swann SWADS-440IPC, I got a small home and I'm interested to see how it operates.

Give feedback when I get it next week.

A warning that the cheap camera requires that you use their proprietary app and is completely useless without an internet connection.
It literally does not work if there is no internet even when your phone is on the same local network.
Far better to buy one of the cheap PTZ cameras that don't require a proprietary app to access the images.
