Optus: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - Free on $80 My Plan (Save $5 Per Month - Ends July 5th)

50

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (32GB) was previously $5 per month on the $80 My Plan. It has now been reduced to $0 handset repayments.

Good timing with the Gold Platinum coming out this week which I have just ordered :) Deliveries of the new Gold Platinum and Emerald Green due from Thursday 18th onwards apparently.

The price is due to revert back on 5th July.

The $80 My Plan includes

  • Unlimited Calls in Australia
  • Unlimited Texts in Australia and International
  • 6GB Data
  • 300 Minutes International Calls
  • 6 months free Netflix

  • Can someone tell me why this isn't a good deal because it sounds like a good deal - shame it is with Optus though I live in a blackspot.

    • Seems good to me too! I'm upgrading and the new $80 plan is a lot better in terms of inclusions than my old one. Plus the phone with no repayments is handy! It was $5 per month only last week when I checked.

I've been happy with Optus, but it's always subjective with phone companies. Being in a black spot certainly doesn't help though :(

It's definitely a good deal for the price, but in my experience very few people actually need unlimited calls and such a high data allowance. Sure, it's nice to have but I think a lot of people pay extra for the piece of mind of no bill shock rather than actual need for it.

$1150 RRP (!) is $48 a month in phone repayments and $32 a month in service charges - so good value for an unlimted/6GB option, especially if you were going to have a Netflix subscription anyway.

At the lower end, $65 on Virgin with $450 calls and texts and 1.5GB of data is a good value option with an effective $17/month service charge.

      • Now that's a solid answer, thanks!

The 6GB was probably the biggest thing for me, as on my current plan I am going over and it's costing me $10 per GB over the 1.5GB included. Calls I'm not so fussed about, but the international inclusion will be nice so I can call some family members in the UK.

    • Its just a good deal,

Basing it off Amaysims Unlimited/5GB/$45 a month you pay $35 extra a month ($840 over 2 years) for the phone which goes for about that money and an extra 1GB a month. With the obvious 24 month contract instead of month to month.

So yeah, if you were planning Optus network and this phone and around that data, its a good deal.

  • and I believe if you have optus broadband at home you can get $10 off the phone per month

  • don't forget the unidays $100 gift voucher promotion which ends today! Hurry & sign up already!

  • Got this on the Vodafone red $70 plan for $65 a month. Not paying any extra.

Well maybe you should share that deal with people then?

  • Hmm….

The BYO plan is 50 for 8gb unlimited calls text etc with no lock in contract. so essentially you are paying 30 x 24 = $720 for the phone. Give a bit less value too as this is a 6gb plan.

That in mind all up 720 is good for the phone itself.
