Fake/Counterfeit Tickets

Hi guys,

I am in university (and I don't know where else to ask) but I recently bought a few tickets to an after exam party.

It turns out they were fake. My question is:

1) What should I do?
I've already passed the contact details of who I got the tickets from to the people running the event; but they seem to have done anything?

Should I call the person I got the ticket from (I doubt it would work though)? Or should I just suck it up and accept it as a lesson learned?

2) What should I expect the people running the events to do?
Should I expect them to do more in pursuing the people printing these fake tickets? I gave them their phone number but they basically said they couldn't do anything and I couldn't go to the event because a) they don't have any more tickets to sell to me and b) I would not be let in with those fake tickets.

Thanks everyone! Any response appreciated :)

  • Name and shame them on stalkerspace

    • Unfortunately they have a fake profile :(

      • oh darn, not cool ripping off fellow students. Did you pay in cash?

        • Yes I did, legit made me sad for being scammed. Haha I know it's not my fault but I still felt sad - a lesson learned I guess.

          @TassieJones14:

Don't blame yourself, seems like a lot of people are in the same boat as you.
Did he look the same as in his profile photo? Might be able to identify him that way

  • What should I expect the people running the events to do

What can they do? They haven't been ripped off, you have. Really, what does it have to do with them? If someone sold you a fake Rolex watch, would you expect Rolex to do something about it?

I don't understand why you apparently haven't tried to contact the seller.

    • ah yeah. Rolex would love to get their hands on people selling fakes. If somebody was counterfeiting something I was selling, I'd want to know and I'd want to take action.

      • But they're not going to do anything for you, which is my point.

    What should I do?

You've reported them to the organisers and you've learned your lesson to buy tickets from trusted sources. Not much else you can do.

What should I expect the people running the events to do?

Really all they're able to do is notify everybody via social media that they should purchase tickets from the certified source and not from resellers. I assume we're talking about a University Social Group / Club here, and not an actual businses, and if this is the case — I can't see what else they'd be expected to do.

Sorry for your loss, better luck next time!

Block-quote Should I call the person I got the ticket from (I doubt it would work though)? Or should I just suck it up and accept it as a lesson learned?

They would probably just dodge your calls once they know you are onto them.

If you feel safe doing it (if its just another student with a copy of photoshop, not someone dangerous), you could contact them again and say you want to buy one more ticket if they have any.

Presumably they will create some more fake tickets and agree to meet in the same place. Then you can confront them in person - bring friends, take a photo of the guy, tell him you will report him to your uni/the police unless you get your money back. Or just take a photo of him from a distance, then call him and use that as leverage? You could always then post that photo all over social media to get even.

  • Not sure which university this is but if it is Monash, MSA has made the following post:
    Fake AXP tickets.
It's come to our attention that someone may be selling fake AXP tickets. These tickets are professionally printed and look like the originals but are missing the security watermark on the back.
If you have recently purchased an AXP ticket and are concerned about its authenticity, please contact MSA Activities department by emailing [email protected], calling 9905 3243 or visiting the MSA Activities office in the Campus Centre.
Please note that only those carrying authentic tickets will be admitted on the night.

    • Yeah they wouldn't do anything apart from telling me my tickets are fake and I won't be allowed on the night, lol

      • That's horrible then :( Hope you get it sorted soon!

    Call the bikies

  • Call the fairies ( meant as a reply to the above comment)
hope you get your money back op

  • Informing the Police would be an ideal starting point OP.

Making and using a false document is an offence which the 'ticket' seller could easily be charged with.

And given that they've accepted payment from you as well, slap on another charge of obtaining financial advantage by deception.

    Sources, you say?
    I've seen it happen.
