I Am So Frustrated with NBN

I am so sick of this, every man and his dog can sell NBN and it's making it impossible to find anything decent in a swamp of crap! I've gone to nbnco.com.au and got a list of 39 available to me, I've gone through all the links, most look like small businesses adding NBN services just for shits and gigs, I had a couple 404 errors and one pathetic landing page saying the site is being updated with a "Powered by WordPress" banner at the bottom.. Really professional.

The ONE decent company/rates I found in that list, call them and it's not available to me?! What is the point of searching on that website then?! Is it all crap?!

I am so FRUSTRATED!

Can anybody recommend anything out of this list for fixed wireless?

ACN
Arcon Communications Pty Ltd
Aussie Broadband
Aussie Web & IT Solutions
Australia Online <- Looked good, apparently not available to me yet still on the list..
DCSI
Delphin Telecom
Difftel
EasyNet
EscapeNet
Exetel
Graytech Hosting Pty Ltd
Hot Net
IINet
Internode
Key Internet <- Pathetic little WordPress landing page and a logo designed in MS Paint
Loadednet
Logitel
Matilda
MyFibre
MyNetFone
North Queensland Telecom <- I'm 80km from Melbourne CBD…
Nuskope
Optus
Peakconnect
Q Telecom
Queensland Computers
Roctel
SavinGreen
Spintel
Switched On Australia
Telcoplus
Telecom West
Telesurf
Telstra <- 100GB for $100 p/m… wicked deal
Transact
Value Telecommunications
Westnet
Your Call Telecom

I think it's a safe bet that at least 50% of these are run out of a garage and total junk. Can anybody help me weed through this crap?! I am trying to find 500GB+ 25/5 for less than $80-$90, ADSL has never been an option for me. I don't think what I'm looking for is too unreasonable.

NBN wants to be a wholesale network? Great.. But put some regulations on the standard at least!

Any thoughts on any of these companies? Any help PLEASE!

iiNet, Telstra, Optus are the big three.
I think you are best to go to the Whirlpool forums and ask there and also use the sites tools to track down a deal.
    http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/

    http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/?action=search&loc=3

i think this will be for you
    http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/?action=search&exc=1&state=vic…
and ask/search on whirlpool to see what the company is like.

    • Thank you, these links are so much easier than clicking every other link individually. Do you know why if it goes by zones then some are on that list but not on the nbnco list? AusBBS & SkyMesh look like very good value (though I've never heard of them before..) yet they are not on my original list. This is so confusing.

DCSI was on my list and looks like good value but their slogan.. "we do internet" hmm.

      • cant help with that sorry.
yu can enter your phone number and get a more accurate list it says.
Make a post in the correct area on their forum and with the Title asking about NBN wireless and your town. Its a great forum.
And search for the ISP and see if theres good or bad comments.

      • Skymesh gets a good wrap on Whirlpool. I used to work with some of the guys at AusBBS and they are good people. I don't have NBN available.

      • I have been with iinet, skymesh and aussie Broadband. The simple fact is that the actual connection is through NBN, the extras and T&C's are with the ISP's.

IINET, on wireless NBN, not enough quota and uses peak, off peak quota.
Skymesh I used as they gave free access to test out the NBN wireless.
Aussie Broadband, still with them, have the best quota available,

My suggestion would be to get an account without a contract, changing to a new ISP is easy on NBN.

        • Yes, I've decided I'll give DCSI the 'we do internet' people a call since there is no contract AND no setup fees, so at the very least if all goes well I would have something for now.

  • Smaller companies usually are just resellers (unfortunately often you don't know which network they use). You should however narrow down the list by looking for the actual plan you want… seeing as NBN has so many tiers and every ISP prices it differently. Generally if you want cheap, bigger telcos probably won't be your choice.
    Some more known ones:
    Telstra
    Transact
    Westnet
    Spintel
    Optus
    MyNetFone
    Logitel
    Internode
    IINet
    Exetel

btw didn't see AusBBS on your list, but they do have satellite NBN, I believe they are one of the cheapest NBN companies around.

    • Belong is owned by Telstra and they use Telstra equipment. Check Belong website and see if they service you area.

      https://www.belong.com.au/nbn

      • This shouldn't matter with NBN though right? I can see the tower from my backyard so whoever I goes with should use the same equipment?

        • Yes you're right, NBNco owns all the NBN equipment. Was thinking of ADSL when I typed that. My milkstake.

  • Hope you're not a gamer, because a lot of NBN providers seem to be plagued with lack of bandwidth and therefore causing network congestion (lower speeds and very high ping at evening times)

  • TPG for $70 a month 500gb @ 25/5 mb/s. Bearing in mind that it's a peak / off peak arrangement.

    • TPG isnt on his list for Wireless providers though.

Yeah I'll read the op next time…

Can anybody recommend anything out of this list for fixed wireless?

    YES

    Telstra <- 100GB for $100 p/m… wicked deal

    • +2

I wondered why OP said wicked deal when they are after 500gig for under $90

      • +1

Sorry I missed that bit….it was a long post.

But summarised from a long post the OP has lamented the need for quality, many times and only mention price once, so he has few options due to the fact NBN charge ridiculous cvc charges or whatever it was called when labor designed the network to look like it would generate a return now the libs are ensuring it will never make a return but continue to charge the high backhaul prices.

        • +1

I agree with that. Labors plan may have been expensive (but not that crazy more than what the Libs plan will cost) and would have been much more future proof than the jumble of old/new tech thats going to now happen.

        • +1

@PVA: The entire "expensive" argument is horseshit to trick the average layman.

We are not getting use of it for free, like a road. If we were, the "too expensive" argument would have a good point. Rather, everyone is paying ~$ X per month - forever.

All funds used to pay for the initial infrastructure will be paid back - and then it will be pure cream. Another taxpayer funded service turned into a profitable business.

    • I have that and it only costs me $80. It works really well and is fast.

    • Mmm sorry, did that not come across as complete sarcasm? That's the biggest rort I've ever seen and Telstra actually had the audacity to send out a pamphlet with that 'deal'. =/

  • I'm with Aussie Broadband, adsl2+ for 6+ years, highly recommend, always connected, constant good speed, they just boosted their ndn teir 2 plan, customer service is very good, in Victoria, based in warnnabool, sadly needing priority service on nbn, connecting soon, have to go with telstra, dam it.

I'd love to have your problem.

Some of us are never going to see fast broadband.

    • I'm sorry for you, I know the feeling. After seeing the town 2km away have ADSL for the past 10 years and I had nothing it's totally sucked. I doubt my place will ever get the NBN fibre option though which the town is scheduled for so that will always suck.

  • I like Internode. Good History. I am with Telstra "Gateway WiFi" , and it's just right for me.

  • Hello, I to was on the merry-go-round for some weeks trying to find the perfect connection. After years of appalling internet speeds at Narara and being a heavy user I was recommended to Exetel through a friend in the industry and 2 months into there plan I have no dramas with. Initially I didn't like the 12mths lock in contract but I can't fault there service this far so it shouldn't be an issue. I was told to stay away from the big players offering Netflix as part of there plans because of the traffic being used by customers using Netflix between the hours of 3pm and 10pm slowing the system down.
I'm getting 500gb at the fastest speed for $80 per month and have had the family gamer flat out on his system and the Netflix child watching her movies while pulling large files and then speed test the system over the WiFi and still getting 80mbts.
    Cant complain.

    • is that wireless nbn like the OP wants or regular nbn?

you became a member just to say excetel is ok?

  • I Am with Acn $109 for 500gb 100/40, they use either Telstras wholesale division or are now directly with NBN.

Works fine for a year now. Got it through http://www.acnpacific.com.au/nbn
