  • did think it was such a great deal at first, but I do like how their vehicle excess is $5,000….my free Citibank CC travel insurance only gives vehicle excess of $2,800, which was not enough for the SUV I will be hiring in NZ

  • You're my hero. How did you find out about it BTW?

  • Be warned. Medical only covered in public hospitals.

  • +1

Used these guys on a regular basis until I made a small claim last year; it was like pulling hen's teeth and eventually they paid me "as a gesture of goodwill". I gave them a gesture of my own and am now using Insureandgo who were considerably cheaper anyway. Of course the value of a policy only becomes apparent when you need to make a claim.

    • Thanks for your comment. I'll be looking at getting domestic travel insurance soon mostly for the car hire vehicle excess cover. It's good to know what companies people have problems with.

    • I was going to get Insureandgo Gold cover but the huge number of negative reviews were holding me back. I used them before since they were the cheapest for a comprehensive plan after the ubiquitous codes (latest is groupon20 or something) but I went for this with 10% off. Only because I've claimed with SCTI before and not yet with Insureandgo. SCTI does make you do a lot of work but it's the only company I've claimed with and the average review is quite high.

My only concern with Insureandgo was how unprofessional everything was - from the website to the pre-recorded voice message it just felt cheap and rushed together. I tried to ring twice to clarify their policy but gave up after a long wait each time. Despite this, if you use a 20% off code and pay for "no excess" coverage it's an amazing deal on paper.

The sucky part is that I'm a budget backpacker that doesn't usually "take risks" but I don't get much out of non-medical travel insurance. The one thing I'm worried about as a budget backpacker (missed standalone connection due to delayed flight) is rarely covered under most realistic scenarios (despite what's written in the policy) but some budget airlines might still give you special consideration if all flights were booked under their company. Regarding all those fancy extras, I wouldn't even know how claiming loss of income would work if you're a freelancer.

  • I have used them before so they sent me an email. I have claimed with them twice, for some small medical claims and they paid within days, no questions asked once I submitted all the receipts online. A few years ago my son had just had surgery prior to our trip to Hawaii and no other insurance company would cover him because his condition was pre-existing but scti did so we are big fans.

  • Used SCTI insurance this month. Made a claim for emergency dental while I was in NZ. No issues. Refunded my expenses in full (fractured tooth, x-ray + temporary filling = NZ$175), no excess.

They also appears to be cheapest for short trips to NZ. Was quoted $18 for my next 3 days trip.
